In the realm of comic books, there is one character I identify with and respect above all. His name is said with respect among the characters in the Marvel Universe. He is well-revered as a brillant engineer and scientist and one of the most intelligent minds in existance. His name is Dr. Victor Von Doom.

How old his he again? It's not that there's anything wrong with liking comic books past a certain age, but the way he made the page arises suspicion...

I should answer this.

I made the page when I was 16. I meant every word of it, and I still do. I'm 22 now, and I still enjoy comic books very much. They are one of the things that brought me into the world of reading.

sspadowsky, it's cute that you try an emulate someone that is above you in so many ways. I feel the need to give you a pellet.

You have every right to say that, Vince. I mean, it's not like YOU try to emulate anybody that is above you in EVERY SINGLE WAY POSSIBLE. That's right, son. Keep trying to get that Von Doom job. I hear they are hiring.

p.s. Thank you for coming back. I wasn't able to say anything smart without you being there to be the other end of the spectrum :)

Max is a jew! *gasp* Must ...insult... jew...before...his snappy...retort! ZING!

In short, Vince is a whiny man suffering from delusions of grandeur and has trouble telling the comic book world and the real world apart.

Now please explain why you sound like a Hitler Jugend in your description of the good doctor.

Dude, that would ge great. I tried submitting it once, but they didn't think it was lame enough. Maybe the second time will be the charm.

That would explain my sudden weight gain, as well as loss of grammar skills and social graces.

Got a pellet for you right here, hotshot. :fu

Vinthy. Sad, shy little Vinthy. When will your full powers return? I hate to see you like this, I do.

Comics are great. I was reading them before you were born. Still do. Nothing wrong there.

Nothing wrong with identifying with Doom when your sixteen. I mean, apart from the fact that he's a bad guy and a megalomaniac and he always looses. Those are things it might not be that healthy to identify with, even when you're a lonley sixteen year old fatty feinting out and hiving up at the drop of a hat.

But at 22 while there's still no problem at all liking comics, although you really should be moving beyond the He Man Dr. Doom zone; still meaning every word of a sixteen year old's post? About identifying with bad guy megalomaniac who always looses?

Identifying with a supervillian?

Identifying with a superhero comic book character at all?

It's sad. I don't think that's even debatable.

Actually, I always thought Vince resembled Matter Eater Lad of the Legion of Superheroes. You know, because both of them were useless and contributed nothing of value to the groups they were associated with. Oh and because both are FAT ASSES.

I thought a lot of comic book villains these days were written so readers could empathize with them on some level.

They have been for a while. There are some charecters who are Greek style tragedies. Although, histories tend to get rewritten. Magneto started out as just trying to live in peace with mutants and was pushed too far. Cobra Commander was a car salesman whose bussiness went under and the brother he worshipped was killed while drunk driving.

You are by no means meant to like or excuse their actions, but you understand why some of them went over the edge and can see how good men can go wrong.
