I'd like to point out that I want the woman dead because of her profile, not her photograph.

Jeanette, women have had power over men for a very long time, since before they could vote or hold all the same jobs. Now that women can do both of those things, maintain their original influence, and basically act however they want and find some portion of society that will accept or even applaud them for it (along with fewer and fewer portions that are willing to condemn them for anything they do, unlike men, who seem to be acceptable targets for any sort of criticism), feminism is exceedingly pointless. People like this heinous loser are the real face of modern feminism and they show just how far the movement has gone over the edge since they accomplished all of their worthwhile goals years ago but needed to hang on to the cause in order to validate their hopeless, boring lives. End of rant.

Define "masculinism". :blah

Feminists who have dealt in philosophical matters have criticized the emphasis on what they consider "masculine" in traditional thought.

For example, some feminists thought that the emphasis on rationality was too exclusive of the moral and intuitive thought processes which women feel. :/

Masculinism simply asserts strong support for what those feminists have called masculine.

Pern, normally you have very intelligent input which I value, but this time, I'm aghast.

Do you know anything about feminism outside of the 1st world? Take a look at the situation of women in developing countries and then tell me that feminism isn't needed over there.

I was only talking about the 1st world. I know women's rights are lacking in a lot of countries. But that is a very different world from the one inhabited by rejects who think they're making important and relevant political statements by letting their pit hair grow and who think they have anything crucial left to accomplish in most developed countries. Feminism may be needed over there. It's not needed here.

And I have not taken a women's studies course, because the women I know aren't oppressed and I don't care about the women I haven't met yet. Nor do I care about the history of feminism or believe that women have ever existed as their own culture worth independent study (a society is a group of men and women, not a group of men coexisting with a group of women). So such a class would have nothing interesting or useful to teach me.

I don't know much about feminism, but how does not shaving your pits make you liberated? I just thought it made you European.

PS- True story, one time I was on the bus, and a big sweaty fat guy came in and sat down. He was wearing a shirt that had someting written on it. It was in that psuedo-70's type and said "This is what a feminist looks like." I still think this is a funny antedote, but my uptight, artsy female friends don't.

As a chick I totaly agree with pern. I hate women libers; for god sake it's one thing to have double standards for men and women like not getting a job because your a woman, or not being able to vote because your a woman. But last time I checked I was being treated pretty fairly and I don't think not shaving your pits will do anything for your rights it'll only make you gross. Not wearing a bra well that's another thing, makes flashing a guy easier, and b :boob :boob bs will get you anywhere.

My girlfriend is taking a women's studies course at essex and hates pretty much everyone in the class. They all think they're entitled to all sorts of things because of their gender, to the extent that some blacks push it with slavery and their ancestors. I too agree with the P-dog.

Of course there are people who take these things too far (I know a descendent of one of the suffragettes and she is a major pain in the ass and has an enormous chip on her shoulder because of her heritage) but there are still massive discrepancies in the UK between male and female wages for equivalent jobs. Also there are a tiny proportion of female CEOs, execs, MPs, etc compared to males.....So there is still justification for 'womens lib'. Its not fair to assume that every female who would campaign on such issues is some hirsute man hater.

Anonymous
Feb 23rd, 2004, 11:19 AM
Women aren't CEOs because they're too insecure about starting a company. I mean, what if people don't like their products? It's enough to make someone cry. :<

Emu
Feb 23rd, 2004, 11:26 AM
But that begs the question of if that gap exists because the women who are available for that position are being discriminated against, or they're simply not as good at it as the men in similar positions are. I don't know how it is in the UK, but most women I know say they're terrified of leadership positions. Is this a common thing among women?

Dole
Feb 23rd, 2004, 12:10 PM

Perndog
Feb 23rd, 2004, 01:40 PM
Or because they don't want them. Ever think of that one? Sort of like gender-based affirmative action in colleges, where some schools need to put the same money into men's and women's athletics or have the same number of teams for each gender, even if four times more men are athletes than women. They weren't conditioned to not be athletes - they just don't want to! It could be the same thing in this case, though I don't know any corporate businesswomen (or businessmen, for that matter) and I've never been to England, so I can't say it's a familiar topic to me.

PonchtheJedi
Feb 23rd, 2004, 02:02 PM
Wouldn't child birth also be a factor in why women have fewer CEO positions? I mean, unless I'm mistaken, women get up to three months (?) off for maternity leave. A quarter of a year is a long time to be away from work. I'm guessing the people who are doing your share of the work while you are birthing children are getting the promotions and such. But I'm guessing that's a pretty minimal factor.
