I believe that was the drummer not the guitarist. The guitarist was stabbed 23 times in the head and back by a crazed neo nazi musician.

The guitarist, Euronymous, was stabbed by Varg Vikernes (from Burzum I think...correct me) because he wasn't kvlt enough apparently. Varg said he thought it was fun (in the interview in Lords of Chaos).
