View Full Version : Pulling a muscle.

When you pull a muscle, is it normal for a bruise to appear in that area? I'm pretty sure I pulled a muscle last week when I was doing some stretching, but just today I noticed a large bruise on my leg where I did it. So yeah, I just wanna know if having a bruise is normal.

My foot had a bruise after I sprained my ankle. If you're anything like me, and god willing you are, then it's normal.

thats happened to me before, but I dont think thats SUPPOSED to happen. either you got hit in the same place as the muscle pull, or you did more strenuous activity with that muscle after you pulled it.

You must've stretched it pretty hard in order for it to make a bruise, but it's normal. All you did was rip a few small veins.

Run before you stretch. :/

Yeah I always do, but I think my muscles were extra tight since I had just started working out with weights last week, so when I tried to do my usual stretches, something popped. There's just this huge bruise on my leg now... I guess I shouldn't go to class for a week or so until this thing heals up more? I dunno. :/

Just tone your workout down a bit, keep working, it, just not as much. Eat meat products, or drink a protien shake.
If you sore, stretch extra.

Keep it active, if you sit around, the muscles will heal taunt.

You mean "taut", right? I would hate to see someone's own leg taunting them. That would be just plain wierd.

Yeah! Rude comments like "You call that a rest of your body except for your legs?!" ... and stuff.

That looks pretty serious, doesn't resemble any kinda bruise I've seen.

You SURE you caused that bruise only by stretching?? I know Tae Kwon Do sparring can get a bit fast paced to even realize you've been kicked once in a while :(

Holy cow, I hope that I am not the only one who knows what a pulled muscle is. Rog, if you pulled your muscle you woulden't be able to use it without releasing a soul-shattering scream. I doubt you pulled you muscle.
A pulled muscle is when the muscle itself rips in two. Meaning cast. You would notice abnormal muscle placement as well. The muscle pieces would be bunched up at the muscles connecting points.

If you ever got a pulled muscle you would be out for weeks. It is very easy to repair, but in the meantime you will be basking in one of the most painful muscle-related pains you will ever feel.

Supafly, you're thinking of a torn muscle. Pulls are when part of the tendon pulls away from the bone.

I'm not really qualified for practicing medicine, but I do know a thing or two. After looking at it, I think you just stretched it WAY too far.

My sugesstion: Get a second opinion, preferably from someone with a diploma.

Give meatman his own sports injury forum. He knows a thing or two.

I've seen bruises like that, but only from sports injuries. That kind of thing coming from stretching is weird.

It usually needs medical attention if:

It Swells
Not sure if you're having that problem.

It doesn't start healing within a week. Your's is yellowish on the outside which is good, and it should continue to do that from the outside in.

It forms easily and for no obvious reason.
That seems to be your case. Stretching doesn't seem like the greatest reason to have a giant bruise. The only time i've seen a bruise like that is when someone got hit in the leg with a bat. :/

Give it a week and call my office if you have any other questions.

And don't fucking keep it active like the halfwits are saying. It's like the idiotic people who have sore muscles and think stretching it is going to make it better.

Anyways putting ice or heat on it only applies to the first day, so just wait it out.

I'm up to date on the medical practice, don't worry.

Leeches, and if that don't work, saw it off. You will feel alot better.
