ZeldaQueen Okay, now I'm starting to get annoyed:

Quote:
In the film, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Neeson) and unleash hell on Earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.
HADES IS NOT THE DEVIL! HIS DOMAIN IS NOT HELL!

I'm sorry, but I just hate it when people adapt Greek myths and then set them up to Christian themes. It was somewhat more forgivable in the Disney version because Disney always seizes whoever's most convenient for the villain (like the Queen of Hearts) but what's their excuse? The tale of Perseus doesn't even involve Hades. If they wanted to use Hades as a bad guy they should have done something with the kidnapping of Persephone which, to the extent of my knowledge, is the most prominent example of him straying into "bad guy" territory. Jeebus, compared to the other Olympians Hades behaved great.

And Perseus wasn't a god. He was the son of a god and a mortal woman. Which meant he was powerful but he wasn't all that special if you consider how much Zeus alone slept around. And "defy his fate and create his own destiny"? That was sort of the point of the myth wasn't it? The fate could not be defied no matter what.

And Io? Really? Apparently they're putting in Io so that Perseus is in a love triangle. Because apparently having Zeus vs Hades and a fight against Medusa and a giant freaking scorpion and one gorgeous princess isn't enough.

Screw them I say!

Very true. There are plenty of times when trailers focus on stuff in trailers that completely misrepresent it.

Take, for example, The Bridge to Terebithia which was marketed like some Narnia/techno adventure when it was actually very faithful to the book.

robo_rob The tag line "Titans...will....CLASH" in the trailer was just ridiculous.

captain516 At least tHercules had a Disney version. I'm still waiting for my Thor movie.
Nov 12th, 2009 05:27 PM
Tadao I think we could do with a good 12 Labors of Hercules.

kahljorn What i hate is that there is like thousands of years of retarded mythological stories (and tons of cultures that haven't even been touched on) many of which are probably better than this one and they decide to just remake one that has already been done.
oh well I shouldn't really be surprised ;/

And yea, that movie pretty much reminded me of 300/lord of the rings. On the topic of 300, I think they should make a 300 version of that famous battle that Muhammed fought against the pagans

Tadao I never base a movie off of it's trailers. People do that waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.

Dimnos So is all CGI shitty? Or just CGI that looks shitty? I dont mind CGI as long as its not crappy looking. I wasnt paying that much attention to this trailer but I thought it looked like they did a good job on the CGI.

J. Tithonus Pednaud Ugggg....that trailer actually made me sick to my stomach and epitomizes everything wrong with the movie industry. Shitty CGI, unnecessary action scenes, simplified story all piggybacking on a predecessor with almost no connection other than title. It's an iconic movie dumbed down and spoon-fed to the drooling masses. It's a real shame and damn sad.

I'm going to pretend this piece of shit doesn't exist.

robo_rob CGI just doesn't have the same sense of awesome as that old stop motion.
Nov 12th, 2009 10:35 AM
Tadao Yeah, I noticed some sweeping "300/comic book movie" sweeping scenes that all of a sudden slow motioned. That bugged me

Oh yeah, I loved those. When I was a kid, I could never figure out how they fit together since Simbad got a girlfriend/wife in each one. And of course no man would have multiple wives. :P

That trailer looks like CotT crossed with 300 and I'm on the fence about how I feel about it. This movie'd better have that awesome metal owl.

kahljorn she just looked like a woman made of playdoh to me. I think a lot of it had to do with the general nature of stop go animation its so... stop and go that it sort of distracted me from any possible scariness.
on the other hand the witches kind of creeped me out
Nov 11th, 2009 05:36 AM
Geggy not even Medusa scared you in the original? She sure gave me the wrong impression of women in general

ba-da-bum-ching
Nov 11th, 2009 05:12 AM
kahljorn it looks kinda neat ;/ but then it also looks like everything else thats been made in the last ten years. I like that its actually kind of scary and dark since the original one wasn't really scary at all because everything looked ridiculous.

Mockery Yeah, Ray Harryhausen's version is an absolute classic and I've watched it countless times. Gonna be pretty hard to top that flick if you ask me...

robo_rob Yeah, this is going to be one of those remakes that I'm going to have a hard time accepting. I'm sure it will be fine, but nostalgia works in funny ways.
Nov 11th, 2009 12:09 AM
Tadao IDK, I watched it for Ray Harryhausen's stop motion. Other than that, it's just Mythology. Mixed up and jumbled Hollywood Mythology.
