Dr. Octogonopus Oneof the things that still freak me out are the archviles in doom 2 and final doom. They had the tendency to ruin your shit pretty quick.

10,000 Volt Ghost I agree with the original clock tower. First time playing it me and my friends had to get together to play it and bathroom breaks were a group trip. Playing it one time, scissorman jumped out from near a fish tank, lights went off in game, then immediately my power went out in my house. I was just like Fuck This and grabbed the nearest thing I could bash something with just in case.

MetalMilitia Come to think of it STALKER had its moments. Most notably when you'd have to go deep into the various bunkers to retrieve things and invisible monsters would jump out and try and bite your face off.

Emu

THESE little mother fuckers
Feb 6th, 2008 10:09 PM
Guitar Woman Clock Tower's really, really broken, but it's also really, really scary.

It was for me, at least.

Wait til Scissorman's after you, serious. ;(

I've only ever gotten the short, bad ending, and I can't remember if it was because the game fucked up on me or if I was too scared to keep going. I should probably play it again.

Zomboid I'm playing clock tower for SNES. It's....meh.

Esuohlim ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT OTHER SCARY GAMES HERE? :eel

SYLVESTER & TWEETY: CAGEY CAPERS GAVE MY SIX-YEAR-OLD SELF NIGHTMARES . It was the level where Tweety would turn into enormous monster Tweety at random intervals and would start going after you instead, and you don't know when it happens or where he is until he suddenly fucking POPS onto the screen and then scary music plays

But at that age I always played Doom with my dad and it never gave me problems
Feb 6th, 2008 09:26 PM
Emu Then at least play the third one
Feb 6th, 2008 08:46 PM
Guitar Woman I am unable to finish it as it is incredibly boring and unscary and also I could give slightly less of a shit about any of these people

end of discussion

Girl Drink Drunk Finish the danmed game or stop your bitching.
Feb 6th, 2008 07:59 PM
Guitar Woman Nope!
Feb 6th, 2008 07:46 PM
Emu So GW are you planning on finishing the game or what
Feb 6th, 2008 01:36 PM
Mintrude I need to start playing through Silent Hill 3 again. I haven't since the aforementioned freak-out.
Feb 5th, 2008 10:37 AM
Girl Drink Drunk My memory is a little fuzzy, but wasn't there this room like that in Silence of the Lambs?
Feb 5th, 2008 02:15 AM
Emu Oh, that's not the same apartment I was talking about.

I might be reading too much into it, but I always sort of connected that room to entering the darkness of Silent Hill and the unknown (like reaching into that hole in that room.) The moths and butterflies signify metamorphosis, change, or rebirth depending on how you look at it.

Or it could just be that a room full of moths is just fucking creepy
Feb 5th, 2008 02:13 AM
Guitar Woman Another thing, the apartment with all the butterflies/moths/whatever really stuck out to me, is there something significant about that
Feb 5th, 2008 02:10 AM
Emu that's why i say this game is a second play-through game, because once you know the ending everything just falls into place and starts making sense. plus you don't spend 6 hours bumbling around the town like an idiot and the story unfolds much quicker because you know where you're going.

oh, and James' father owns the haunted apartment building in the 4th game, which explains a whole fucking lot

Guitar Woman
Spoilers!

I'll go watch the ending(s) on Youtube and if I still don't care I'll just play the other ones.

I'm fine with this kind of depth in a game, but again, if the game itself doesn't have any immediate substance it's going to be really goddamn hard for me to play it and try to draw this stuff out. Mabye if I were a bit more squeamish the scare factor would have done it for me, but I'm not ;(
Feb 5th, 2008 01:57 AM
Emu all in all it was a bad idea for you to start with SH2 because then you go into it not really knowing what silent hill IS. i'd suggest you play the first or third one next and don't bother with the 4th one at least for a while.

here's the very quick 'n dirty plot synposis:

Spoilers!

i'm probably forgetting a lot but i'm rl tired right now

Feb 5th, 2008 01:42 AM
Emu it might

it might ruin it forever
Feb 5th, 2008 01:40 AM
Guitar Woman Will it make it stop sucking?

Because yes.
Feb 5th, 2008 01:39 AM
Emu do you want me to explain the game to you

because i will
Feb 5th, 2008 01:36 AM
Guitar Woman I did notice that the guys that spew acid at you only hide under the vans.

I think. That was another thing that got me about the game, once the enemies started displaying really scary behavior (the j-horror style sped up crawling made me shit the first time ) nothing was really done with it

I mean, ok, you're terrifying me now, why the hell are you running away
Feb 5th, 2008 01:34 AM
Emu That's what I always thought. I've never actually gotten that ending so I could be wrong~
