I wonder if this experiment inspired the song "Two Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer)" by Roky Erickson. "Two headed dog, two headed dog Got me working in the Kremlin with a two headed dog" That's the only line I can remember from the song, and a brief web search yielded nada for actual lyrics. |

J. Tithonus Pednaud | Yup, it's one of their 20 most bizarre experiments of all time. Not a hoax, obviously. |

Demikhov and his Two-Headed Dog I'd read of these experiments before however the following article and a youtube video dropped into my inbox today. As the material is not relevant to my own website, I thought I would post it here. In 1954 Vladimir Demikhov shocked the world by unveiling a surgically created monstrosity: A two-headed dog. He created the creature in a lab on the outskirts of Moscow by grafting the head, shoulders, and front legs of a puppy onto the neck of a mature German shepherd. And the video. Warning, this can be somewhat disturbing. Forward the video to the one minute mark if you just want to see the two headed dogs. |
