kahljorn I don't see that. This isn't a LITERAL smokescreen dimnos its not like you have to be trying to hide physical objects ( ). Motivations and other things can be hidden as well, and I would argue that in war/politics and sometimes even regular smokescreens hiding why you're doing something is at least as important as what you're hiding.

Dimnos The difference is that with a smokescreen you are doing A while hiding behind B. With this they are not so much hiding what they are doing so much as why they are doing it.

kahljorn I don't really see what's so ridiculous about that. It's kinda like if you ran a waste disposal plant/hog farm/frozen fish cliche place and while its true that you dispose waste you also dispose bodies and/or transport illicit drugs.

Dimnos I must have misread your first post. I too agree that calling it a smokescreen for itself is rather retarded. It sounds more like an excuse.

Ant10708 no you fucking moron. I'm not saying anything is a smokescreen. I'm actually posting how stupid it is to call it a smoke screen. However, geggy is implying the program was being put into effect for a reason that was meant to be hidden from the public and that the real purpose of the program was not really to kill terrorists but was going to be used for other means. Therefore, geggy believes that the CIA was going to pretend to be using the program to kill terrorists which most people would support but would be actually using the terrorist excuse as a "smoke screen" to their real actions

stop making me explain geggys crazy conspiracy theories please

Smoke screen = An action or statement used to conceal actual plans or intentions.

therefore the cia's statement that a program was being used to kill terrorists but was actually being used for other methods is what some would call a smoke screen. i was disagreeing with him for reasons not really having to do with this argument based on you not knowing what the term smoke screen means.

Dimnos So you are saying its a smoke screen for itself? How ingenious.
Jul 24th, 2009 03:43 PM
Ant10708 In the quote of geggy in my post he is claiming that the CIA is asserting that the program is to kill terrorists but geggy belives that the program(or i guess the proposed use of the program) is really just a smoke screen for their real intentions which is to silence political opposition. So he is basically saying the CIA program to kill terrorists is really to distract us(thus its acting as a smoke screen) from the fact that its being used for other more illegal operations. SORRY DIMNOS, next time I'll spell it out that I meant geggy's claim that the CIA was claiming the program to be used for killing terrorists was being called a smoke screen and not the program itself....

either way it doesn't take away from the fact that we should have a program like that in effect(probaly be more productive then unmanned aerial bombings) and we don't. it also doesn't take away from the fact that geggy is batshit insane and he actually believes a program(or just for you dimnos, the stated purpose of the program!) that never went into effect is being used as a smoke screen to distract us dumb civilians from the evils the cia are really doing.

And don't worry about the pipe. I'm at work and I pick it up once I get home and once I am home I won't be posting because I don't usually waste my free time like you do on a message board
Jul 24th, 2009 02:02 PM
Dimnos Who said anything about the program itself being a smoke screen? Dont pick up the pipe until after you post dude.

The purpose of assassination program is more about silencing political opposition than fighting terrorism. CIA's assertation that its about executing al qaeda figures is just a smokescreen.
if it was a smokescreen then why the fuck did it never get started? because your batshit insane

El Blanco What does a CIA program that never left the brainstorming phase have to do with Bhutto's assassination?

Dimnos If they did it correctly the international community wouldnt know who did it. What ever happened to "Should you fail we will disavow all knowledge of your existence."? Extremists right? That is what they are called these days.

VaporTrailx1 just imagine if they sent a guy in and knocked off Saddam. woulda saved us 5 years, billions of dollars and a few thousand lives.

But apparently according to international law invading a country is more moral than assassinating a foreign leader.

if all else fails. What would the KGB do?
Jul 18th, 2009 11:33 PM
Dimnos We should have CIA assassins. It would be better to just take out one guy than to have to invade an entire country and possibly kill civilians. Isnt that what they are always bitching about? Damn civilians getting in the way of our bombs?

CIA assassassassination program

By Joby Warrick Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, July 16, 2009

CIA officials were proposing to activate a plan to train anti-terrorist assassination teams overseas when agency managers brought the secret program to the attention of CIA Director Leon Panetta last month, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

The plan to kill top al-Qaeda leaders, which had been on the agency's back burner for much of the past eight years, was suddenly thrust into the spotlight because of proposals to initiate what one intelligence official called a "somewhat more operational phase." Shortly after learning of the plan, Panetta terminated the program and then went to Capitol Hill to brief lawmakers, who had been kept in the dark since 2001.

The U.N. team conducting an inquiry into the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto will not seek to name culprits, the commission's head said Friday, lowering expectations from the outset.
