LordSappington I do not know how many characters I've played this game through with. It and DOOM II are my favorite games, ever.

Dr. Boogie I think ED-E goes to Primm, and Rex goes back to the King?

Guitar Woman Where do Rex and ED-E go when you dismiss them from your party? They don't seem to be at the Lucky 38 with my other companions, and otherwise I've got no idea where to start looking.

I wouldn't mind without them so much except that even with the Riot Shotgun and Reinforced MKII Combat Armor, Cass gets killed really really easily in high-risk fights, like the Legate clusterfuck at Hoover Dam. I don't want to use another companion because she's my favorite character in the game.

Dimnos If you have it on hard mode and have to scavenge for food and clean water, scavenging almost becomes required. If you really want to get into the crafting, the game becomes a huge scavenger hunt.

Soooo, this game is sort of a give and take from FO3. They beefed up the levels, made the perks a hell of a lot better, and overall the character growth system is many times more enjoyable to make. However, the core of the game seems to have been diminished: the exploring. FO3's major strength over every other open world game of this kind was how fantastic its exploring was. Every dungeon had a distinct narrative, and there was little crap to discover here and there just for fun.
This game however seems to punish exploration, there is nothing to find. They have map markers to just mark areas in the middle of nowhere with nothing more than a boring dead body to populate it, and the areas that actually do have something only offer a tiny bit of consumables. The only good stuff comes from killing people, so scavaging through refuse is completely meaningless in this game.

Admittedly I've only been playing a about 6 hours, but it feels like they took all the comments and complaints about how to make FO3 better and used them to make a new game, but forgot to leave in all the stuff that was good about FO3 in the first place.
I think you have a point there. When I was playing New Vegas, I didn't really notice the lack of those "mini-stories", like the robot in FO3 that sang lullabies to dead children, because the quests in NW were so much better compared to FO3, that exploring the world was kinda secondary. Still, NW is far superior to FO3, IMO, and i'm pretty sure there is a mod to NW which adds some random locations with some cool shit.

LordSappington Mr. House's ending was just plain disappointing.

Tadao I gave Boone a Gladius Machete and now all her does is run into battle and get in the line of fire. He one hit kills a lot of people though.

OxBlood I had ED-E with me in the Vault but he was lying around in shables most of the time...I don´t know if anyone can keep a companion alive on Hardcore for more than a minute...they die so damn quick...

Disappearing companions are really stupid, I agree...I think Dogmeat did that often in F3 too. Maybe it´s a dog-thing who knows. I hate that they don´t teleport to the Lucky38 but start walking towards it, that´s fucking stupid. Realistic but stupid. Just port them there, problem solved, nothing can happen to them.

One stick of TNT was the solution to my little vault-problem and Iīve arrived in Vegas once again, doing stuff for the Kings. I want the dog :D
I had Rex as my companion throughout the game and the little guy can pack a punch. Although I was disappointed when I was ready to start the attack on Hoover dam with the legion that he wasn't waiting for me at the Lucky 38 like I told him too. Never saw him again.

Zomboid He actually shows up and defends you sometimes. He saved me from a giant radscorpion when I was way too weak to take one out.
Nov 22nd, 2010 12:19 AM
Tadao I've been to that boathouse. I'll have to go back and see. My light machine gune makes short work of them. I'm sure I'll get tons of exp from killing people, it might be really tough in the very beginning though. I'm not sure how tough the town of Goodsprinf will be At level 5. Also I sure hope the robot doesn't interfere.

Zomboid Cazadors seem to respawn, but I haven't really noticed a trend for anything else. There was one abandoned warehouse/boathouse or something near one of the large bodies of water, and it had a bunch of Cazador nesting stuff inside; that's where I go when I need a couple hundred exp.

Oh, and I mainly use the chainsaw with my melee/explosives guy. The special attack in VATS does a shitload of damage.
Nov 20th, 2010 12:15 PM
Tadao Yeah, I don't think it will work because I haven't found any respawns.

Tadao I think my second character will not do 1 quest if possible. I'm just gonna run out to the hills, get exp via killing, then kill towns people. I doubt that will work.
Nov 20th, 2010 09:34 AM
OxBlood Yeah, Cazadors are about the most annoying enemy in the game I think, good job on creating a small deathclaw so to speak. I mostly relied on Veronica to distract them while I shot them with whatever normal gun I had. The Gobi Rifle works well of course, being about the most useful and powerfull weapon in the game...

But it doesn´t help that you can´t target their head due to a bug, unless they´re right ON you. Makes it a lot harder than it should´ve been. I wonder how my unarmed guy will fare against them.
I also noticed that for a unarmed-build that really only uses Unarmed as its only attack-skill, you don´t have that many specific perks to choose from. No Ninja, no Superslam, just Piercing Strike, Stonewall and Slayer. Paralyzing palm only works if you´re fighting with your fists, so that one isn´t useful either...Purifyer maybe but it´s only worth it for the Deathclaws I guess.
Well, that leaves a lot of slots for utility-perks. I took Terrifying presence, I wonder how that´ll work out.

Also, since my first Character had a Speech-skill of about 12, I can safely say: Damn, I missed a lot of opportunities, Speech is extremely useful

Though I do have a massive problem right now. I´m in Vault 34 and I´m fighting the "boss" there along with his 2 turrets and I can´t really reach them so there´s no punching them either...I guess I´ll have to leave, stock up on explosives and come back or something like that...

I bet. Only problem is that my energy weapons skill is around 15. Never cared for them.

Mad Melvin I fucking hate cazadors. Aside from explosives, riot shotgun is pretty much the only usable weapon if you come across a large pack of those bastards.

In other news, I have been banned from two casinos for winning a shitload of caps. Gots me some implants and a huge boner.
Nov 18th, 2010 05:43 AM
Zomboid I just spent like 20 minutes blowing Raul sky-high with C4 over and over again. Oh, and I found and killed the giant Cazador.
Nov 17th, 2010 06:07 PM
OxBlood I just did Primm and the Jail too today. Worked for the Powder Gangers and got Meyer back as the Sheriff. Boone in Novac seems to hate me though cause the NCR can´t stand me...just because I murder their stupid Rangers with my Spike Knuckles...psh, sissies, they started it, I´m just fucking defending myself...by breaking their faces, true, but still, not my fault. They could´ve just handed the armor and guns over and walked away but noooo they have to get all bitchy and shit.
Nov 17th, 2010 05:47 PM
Zomboid There's a few options for a new sheriff in Primm. I got a robot to do it the first time. I also helped the Power Gangers take over Goodsprings this game.

The NCR has declared me a terrorist, so now they're attacking me on sight. What this has resulted in is me wiping out a few outposts and the embassy on the strip. I also murdered everyone in Jacobstown with an axe. Same deal with the Brotherhood of Steel base, though that was definitely a bit tougher.

Tadao Yeah, the Cowboy Repeater was my favorite in the beginning too.
