Samfucius AVGN is horrible... most of the time.
However, his review of Bible Buffet is spot-on. So spot-on in fact that I can completely ignore his (lack of) acting and laugh my ass off. Because that game truly is a trippy piece of shit.

It's one thing to thank the reviewers and the internet, but when Sony started putting out 'Greatest Hits' for less than half the price, that was a true godsend.
Funcoland was the best ever

Back then you had to either rely on word of mouth, pick at random or how pretty the box art was, or hope that the guy working there has no life and played every single cart (no problem these days of course)

The only few of the reviewers that actually reviews. No gimmick.

And I gotta say that that analogy doesn't hold at all, because they're not saying the NES games are bad by today's standards -- they're bad by the NES's standards.

Nick I checked Angry Video Game Nerd, Irate Gamer, and Armake 21 out. None of them are funny.

PS: What is so funny about making fun of NES games? It is like mocking a 3 year old for not being as knowledgeable as a 30 year old.
Feb 8th, 2008 08:49 PM
Emu That's basically my opinion. I think my favorite part of AVGN is seeing his massive collection of peripherals.
Feb 8th, 2008 08:09 PM
Supafly345 I like AVGN because it reminds me when I first started playing nintendo and I get all nostalgic. But damn, any game reviewer based on the internet or started on the internet seems to be horrid. If they want people to like them they are way too nice, if they want people to think they are savants they hate everything.

Fat_Hippo I've checked some these out, and AVGN really isn't very good. Spoony Experiment isn't bad, and he reviews games that might actually interest me, as opposed to games that I will never play or even hear of ever again.

My faves are the Angry Video Game Nerd, Irate Gamer, and Armake 21. I also enjoy Hellsing920, as well as a few others on youtube. Just something about seeing someone so pissed off at a game, well, it's quite amusing.

Anyway, who else watches em?
I didn't know Armake 21, he is so funny thanks
but who's the ucranian guy that some says

The Mighty Pinto I'm more partial to The Spoony Experiment; but his shtick is more with D&D and tabletop, but he's still got his funny moments (and it doesn't feel as contrived as AVGN).

Chojin I thought this thread was going to be about Game Informer.

RaNkeri AVGN kicks ass IMO. He's the only bad game reviewer who makes me laugh hard. Although some of his early videos were somewhat "bleh"
Jan 29th, 2008 11:29 PM
DuFresne I like his reviews, but yeah, there's always at least two or three times per video where he delivers a line EMBARASSINGLY badly, and these are usually his trademark "angry" moments. I just cringe and try to imagine how a good actor would say it. So I guess you'd say I like the reviews themselves, just not particularly the guy doing them.
