birdshine The problem is a lot of these people have taken to piracy not only out of starvation but also as kind of a volunteer coast guard. They don't have a government to protect their waters so lately a lot of counties have been going there to dump nuclear waste and illegally fish because they've dried up their own sources through over harvesting. So people that lived off the sea for generations are having trouble catching fish and the fish they do catch is likely to give their children birth defects. This is why such a huge amount of the Somalian population supports the pirates. A military venture into Somalia would prove as useless and ineffective as the war in Iraq for the same reason - fighting against guerrilla tactics without the support of the native. Any military response may seem justified by its completely ignoring the true source of the problem and letting the people abusing Somalia's seas get a free ride because they got the money.

Evil Robot His only problem is that he won't have anyone sending him money for the commisary.

Evil Robot He's black, he'll be fine.
Apr 22nd, 2009 05:40 PM
WhiteRat I don't think he'd last too long in prison.

Tadao Hmmm, if this guy gets off, then Obama called a hit on 3 guys.

WhiteRat I'm not at all surprised that Twin Cities based Omar Jamal is involved with this trial. Dude has done nothing but bitch and moan about America's injustices towards his people and he never hesitates to cry racism whenever he can.

Evil Robot Now their going to hold trial in New York for the surviving pirate, Abdulwali Muse. If he is sentenced to a term in New York he will be most likely be sent to Rikers Island and as an inmate in New York State he would be eligible to enter the prison education program and earn a college degree. So he would be better off in jail in America than free in Somalia. Not to mention the amount of respect he would get in jail from being a pirate.

DevilWearsPrada When I heard that Navy SEALS headshotted some pirates on a boat and rescued a guy, it immediately reminded me of that ship level in SOCOM 2

Evil Robot Imagine the look on his face when all three of them suddenly dropped dead.
Apr 17th, 2009 04:48 PM
Dr. Boogie You could if you had a gun.
Apr 17th, 2009 04:38 PM
Tadao I love how this guy is a hero because he was captured and held at gun point. I don't think I could ever do that.

Dr. Boogie It was all part of our brilliant plan to create a piracy problem so that we could have a feel-good story about navy SEALs killing pirates three years later.

Dimnos So... let me get this straight... Supposedly the US government went into Somalia to give military support the president, who was getting funds from the UN? And this is illegal? I like how the UN decides they are going to "support" a government in a "troubled" region, the US actually provides support (opposed to only deciding they want to help) and we get flack from the rest of the world. No one ever wants to look at how much foreign aid we give out. Why is that?
Apr 16th, 2009 12:17 PM
Evil Robot Well you could say it's the fault of the US but another point of view is that the US is always getting into these last ditch attempts to save countries from going to shit and don't always succeed. A great example of this would be the Korean penninsula during the 50's. We got our puppet government in place and things coudln't be better for the people of Seoul, the north however, is fucked because they rejected the US.

Geggy Fuck you

I always wonder why countries turn into shit everytime the US interferes with them. I mean I could understand that it would benefits the security firms greatly buuuut...oh wait
