"save as" jerkwad

Anonymous It wouldn't and couldn't be the answer to your problem, but Raize makes up for his inadequacies by being hardcore.

James OK, forgive me if I'm mistaken, but "Play video files in web pages" would mean that... IE will play video files that are embedded into web pages, wouldn't it? I don't see how that option connects to downloading a temporary file. Regardless, I do have that option check. I've also unchecked it and rechecked it just to make sure.

Anyway, I'll look into making a new profile. If it is something in my user data, how would I fix that?

Raize Once again. Metal Militia provided the correct answer to your problem on page 2. If it is not working, it is because you haven't provided additional information.

Specifically, that your computer was compromised a while back and the: "CProgram Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" file does not look like a "play" triangle with a rainbow of circle around it, and, when double-clicked, does not open windows media player. In that case, you will need to find the binary to download and replace, or, better yet, reinstall windows media player.

If you have reinstalled windows and the problem is still not resolved, I would suggest creating a new user as it might be Application Data settings stored in your profile that is fscking it up.

I do this kind of technical support shit for a living, so you'll have to excuse me as I take the liberty of insulting people online that I don't know, while I try to help them with their technical inadequacies. I don't get to do it with the people that pay me, so I must do it with the people who do not.

Anonymous GOOD IDEA

McMock Hey I know. Try using google to find the answer!

James I'm an asshole when given reason to be, as I said before. You give me more than enough reason to wish a plague upon your house. But the majority of the people in this thread I've tried to be nice to, because they are offering their services.

I'm just frustrated that I can't find a way to FIX the problem, only to ignore it.
Oct 12th, 2004 04:34 PM
MetalMilitia No one cares about your problems because you are an asshole. Just do us all a favour and never use a computer again.

Yeah, it's GREAT for when all you want to do is scroll through a page, and you keep accidentally clickin gon links. FIREFOX FOR LIEF.

Now shut the fuck up about browser superiority, and get back to my problem.

you did not read his post. he said specifically what the problem was, and most everyone is giving solutions to a different problem, including you.

McMock Metal: Cool. I probably would have never found out about that. Now I'm gonna use it all the time! (Thanks)

AChimp THAT IS INTENSE!

McMock You said it, AChimp!
* cue canned laughter and cue credits..ehhh... now! *

It has 120dpi and a maximum resolution of 1680x1050. A normal monitor has only 72dpi. It's the lid to my laptop, you see?

- Image zooming. I have a screen that has a far higher DPI than a normal screen. This makes it that images tend to be really small on my screen. With a firefox plugin I installed, I can now right click an image and I get a context-sensitive menu that allows me to zoom to 200%, 300%, 400%... couldn't do without it anymore.
That sure sounds like a crazy monitor!

McMock Ugh. This is what firefox is a sollution to for me. It's not 'IE sucks and I wanna be special'. Most of the good stuff comes from plugins, by the way. You need those to make your firefox good. Otherwise it's like a christmas tree with nothing in it.

- Nuke anything. When I see an image I don't like on a webpage, I press 'NUKE' and it's gone. works with everything. text, banners, porn, ANYTHING. It's fucking brilliant and I'll not hear otherwise from anyone.

- Tabbed browsing, pop up blocking, google search bar. Self-evident, but what the hell. Here I go anyway. I love going "Open this link in a new tab' when pages are loading slow. Then I can have page two load in the background, unintrusive, whilst I read page one.

- Ad block plugin. No more banners. Simple. Elegant.

- Mouse Gestures. Right click and scroll button motion. (You press right click and use the scroll button to go through a pop-up menu that lists all the pages you've visited. You can go to a page you visited an hour ago with one smooth movement. It's faster than going to the back button. Mouse gestures make everything better.

Crashing has never been an issue for me. Security hasn't either. I hardly ever scan anything, figureing if the virus bites, it bites. I can always reinstall, no biggie. Pop ups are an issue to me, however.

I don't use firefox to be different. I used to love opera. I switched to firefox because opera wouldn't render pages well a long time ago, and I've been using it for over half a year now. It couldn't be better.

So get plugins. Actually USE it instead of checking it out just to try and find some way to discredit it. I get the impression that to use IE and not Firefox would be the action of a person who wants to be different. Because there's no objective reason to still use it.

What else was I gonna say? I forgot. Yeah, okay, some negative points about firefox. It's slow ass hell to start up. I haven't found a good skin to use with it. It uses up shitloads of memory.

But all of those are workeable. And, again dude. GO LOOK AT THE PLUGINS PAGE. BROWSER MANA!

And don't bitch about not getting a proper answer. You sound like a kid. People have given you a sollution. If you don't like it, tough. Sometimes you gotta adapt. You cannot have everything your way. And you cannot be dissing people for trying to help you. I mean... surely you're not so dense as to think that people are suggesting firefox to you as a way to spite you? Don't shoot the pianists. Don't be a child. There. That should be enough. I think I'm on my quota for today.

MetalMilitia have you tried pouring water over your modem?
Oct 10th, 2004 10:37 PM
James Yeah, Firefox is great. It'll fix my problem by giving me a download window, but then I have it opening whenever I save an image, and I have to manually close it.

Piece of shit.

Now, everyone stop being a bunch of faggots, and provide ACTUAL help. Jesus Christ, you people are worthless.

One day you will see the awsomeness of Firefox. YOU MARK MY WORDS!
I will not give up untill everyone knows how badass firefox and HL2 are.
Oct 10th, 2004 07:39 PM
Anonymous Militia, he's talking about video files that are ONLY run-from-location deals. In the which case, firefox would not be a solution to his problem.

Currently the only problem to which Firefox IS a solution, coincedentally, is 'IE works too consistantly and is used by too many people. I want some ADVENTURE in my life, and I want to be DIFFERENT. Since I deviate from the norm in my real life when I shop exclusively from Hot Topic, I want to be an internet deviant as well! HOW CAN YOU HELP ME?'
Oct 10th, 2004 04:55 AM
McMock Jesus is your answer. Have you prayed to the Lord enough my son?
Oct 4th, 2004 04:53 PM
James If I'm being an asshole to someone, it's because that someone thinks they're helping by posting solutions that aren't even relating to the problem, or simply telling me to give up.

To everyone else, I've been grateful for their offerring to help out. But to the rest, I'll tell you to shut the fuck up and ram your head through your monitor.

Get out of my thread, you retard. You're not contributing ANY useful information, despite what you may try to force yourself to believe.
