Angryhydralisk Southgate House in Newport. I'm gonna try my damndest to make this one. I missed Earth and Khanate a year or two back. While missing Earth sucked in itself, I still got a chance to see them one day...I can't even get that with Khanate.

True, some people consider Epicus Doomicus Metallicus their best, but I like Ancient Dreams better.

ItalianStereotype man, not to go off topic or anything, but I would trade almost everyone in this thread for CiG to come back.

Angryhydralisk Orange Goblin's new album definitely has a doomed vibe to it.

More doom bands! Pentagram, Trouble, Saint Vitus, Goatsnake, Burning Witch, Asva, OM....
Jul 15th, 2007 05:29 PM
SLjimbolian Cathedral and Sleep would be my favorites.

kahljorn Some doom metal is really gay because they have opera music in the background which is what makes 90% of death/black/whatthefuckever music incredibly gay.

One of my favorite stoner rock bands is YOB who nobody has probably heard of but it's awesome. In a way it reminds me of godspeed because, if I remember right, they have really long songs. They don't sound anything alike but it's just the same feel... sort of the same feel I get from Neurosis as well.

i made those exact suggestions in that other thread because they are pure coolness.

Dixie Well there's more so alot of mid-paced doom than really fast. Candlemass has some more mid-paced songs, The Reverend Bizarre...Hold on, this is total deja voodoo:

There's some good bands mentioned in there, Cathedral have good music, but Lee does the death vocal thing which I'm not a huge fan of. I would suggest Old Season as well, epic doomy Irish metal! Paul Chain has some somewhat up tempo songs. Cirith Ungol isn't always slow. Solitude Aeturnus is killer as well as Trouble! The Gates of Slumber are as well a faster doom.

Fathom Zero Hmmmmm...

Cathedral. And Electric Wizard goes without saying.

Angryhydralisk Doom Metal. Been loving this shit since '03. I think it's amazing all the stuff I have missed out on (Just last year, I heard Spine of God by Monster Magnet and while it isn't exactly doom, it may be one of the best stoner albums EVER.)

Fast doom? The closest I can think of is Debris Inc., which wasn't all that great.

Rongi i also prefer clean vocals in, well any genre to be honest. although i thought the screaming in Boris' "Amplifier Worship" album was apropriate.

What are some of these "not slow" doom metal bands you speak of?
May 17th, 2007 01:12 AM
Dixie I hate to be the uppity asshole here but there is a big difference between stoner and doom. People that do the "stoner/doom" label for thier bands are considered posers and incredibly gay by many. That being said, most stoner stuff is a variation of southern rock, just a little heavier. And some of it is pretty good (Leadfoot is a local favorite in these parts). The term "stoner metal" is invalid, most metal heads are stoners in some form, "stoner rock" has become a popular choice of label because rock's cool again. Alot of the stoner rock/metal bands are really in a scene popularity contest (go to the Hellride Music forums to see that in action, particularly the Doom Metal forum. Or you can even go the the detestable and protested doom-metal.com to see it).

When it comes to doom, not all of it is slow, and most of the best doom does not have the screamer vocals. I prefer clean vocals myself.

Rongi
stoner/doom metal thread

first of all, let me say that "stoner metal" is quite possibly the dumbest name for a genre i've ever heard.

but hey, i really dig this kind of metal. this slow, "slug fucking" music as one of the guys from Earth put it.

The only thing is, doom/stoner metal bands tend to sound pretty god damn similiar.
