So are they going to fence the whole place off and have police hassle anyone who goes near it or will they just not do anything and let people who are lost drive in by accident so they would be like "what the fuck is the deal with place? Its like a fucking scooby doo episode. I just need some gas where are the gas stations with underground tanks?".

A town with an underground coal fire that releases poison and pollution into the air is now (after many decades) forcing land owners who thought it was a giant conspiracy to move the fuck out and a few people are sad about it in some way or another because they think it's cool. Weird.
It wasn't so much cool (though admittedly a fire that lasts decades is cool) as it was a town of almost legendary status. They based a video game on it even. Protoclown wrote an entire piece on the place. It isn't the town itself going away that is sad, it is that a legendary fixture of middle America (albeit an esoteric one) is going away.
