Pentegarn So we can expect the punchline to be friendly to people over 50 then

elx I didn't hear about this. but then again, it's Nebraska, when's the last time you've heard about that place ever? The closest I can think of was maybe back in mid-2008, and it probably had Sarah Palin's name attached onto it. so it's not exactly surprising.

According to my sources, Nebraskans got it as a reward for finally figuring out the whole "internal combustion engine" thing last year.

The governor was given a cookie as a bonus, from what I understand

Pentegarn My GF just pointed me toward this (she knows I have been borderline obsessed with this since I heard about it) which seems to have a couple new tidbits of info

http://www.counterpunch.org/giambrone06272011.html

I also found these links upon further searching

This one
regarding the media blackout.

And this one which was referenced in the counterpunch article

So it seems to be a media said/nuclear people said situation. Personally I think as with most he said/she saids, the truth is somewhere in the middle, though I am rooting for the nuclear commission being right because that means no death and disaster.

Evil Robot II I remember stories about how the power plant operators in my county offered to run pipes under the streets of the entire town and heat the streets with the seondary coolant to keep the snow off them in the winter. Needless to say everybody voted it down in favor of non-nuclear plow trucks.

I'm not saying I'm against nuclear power, but people are stupid and fuck up fail-safe systems all the time.

Evil Robot II So the people who run the plant are apparently lying, as are the people who are telling the truth, also liars, the media seems to be making things up and the government is suppresing the entire thing. I'm starting to wonder is there really even is a power plant in Nebraska.

Too freaking right, I can count on one hand the number of disasters with nuclear power yet people are frightened of it. (though admittedly I am not comfortable with the stretch of highway in Ohio that has nuclear plants on one side and cornfields on the other, though it does explain all the weird new Dorito flavors)

That said here's a huffington article on the coverup

http://www.huntingtonnews.net/5415

EDIT Not sure what I think of the article though. I would hope that the 1st amendment were more than just words, but if this 'media black out' turns out to be true, then every right wing pundit in the universe is going to have an "I told you so" party and I am a bit sick of the partisan politics thing so I don't know if I can stomach it

FURTHER EDIT The article is actually by an entity called Sorcha Faal, who seems to have an agenda of their own, so take their info with a grain of salt I suppose

This is rather interesting, though:

Also, I read in one of those links that it was off for 90 minutes, yet it's still a no-fly zone. Quite interesting.

Evil Robot II Thats really strange that it's not all over the news right now. I would have thought there would be a media erection about this but theres just nothing.

Did anybody hear about the nuclear accident in Nebraska?

This is the strangest shit. None of the articles written about this after monday will load. I thought it was some random internet fuck-up but I tried from the computer at work and got the same thing, only articles about the fort calhoun nuclear fire dont load. All other articles from the same sites do load with no problem. There was a report of a fire, gas release, and a shutdown but there hasn't been any followup strories on TV.
