Dr. Boogie No, I thought that too, but there's no charging here. When you're near someone, attacking triggers a sort of partial lockon that's a little disorienting, rather than the old way of either charging your attack or flailing wildly while you try and keep the other player in focus.

Zhukov I remember I used to play pretty well as the alien. The heavy attack isn't something you charge up? All I remember is charing it up, running around and letting go when I ran into someone, rather than having to wait for it to be ready once already engaged in close quarters.

Fathom Zero I love matchmaking.

Dr. Boogie I have a feeling that's what this is.

And I just got out of another match that ended with the host ragequitting right as I was getting ahead as the marine.

darkvare i think this game would have really benefitted from a public beta

Dr. Boogie Believe me when I say that scripted death sequences get old pretty fast. Especially when performing one gets you killed because you're standing perfectly still for almost ten seconds.

I'm finding it easiest to win games as the marine, both because of the simple directness of your attacks and because players in the other roles are trying to figure out the controls. In one game, a marine found a smartgun somewhere. Would love to know where that thing is.

And the focus button is not making any sense to me. It seems like a lock-on button, but that lock is broken really easily. Performing a heavy attack, for instance, instantly breaks the lockon.

Fathom Zero It feels slower for me than I would think, probably because my computer is urgh-worthy. But I found the marine a lot of fun and more tense than I imagined. In other video games, I don't find myself at such a disadvantage when it comes to mobility and things like that. But being a marine in AvP, I feel slow and if I could see my character, I'd probably be hugging my rifle as close to me as possible.

I've gotten good with the shotgun, almost to the point where I'm better with the rifle. So I dunno. Maybe it's a to-each-his-own thing, or maybe I just play with people that suck.

I can count the number of games I played on one hand, though, so take that for what you will. Coming off of playing AvP 2000, I thought it was a lot of fun and very different. I jumped a few times being trophy-killed. I've never had more fun dying.

Dr. Boogie I do feel like I'm struggling with the melee, but that might be because I can't find any documentation to explain it.

For the marine, melee combat is simple: if you get melee'd, you're fucked. I get that you can do light and heavy attacks, but for the alien at least, I have yet to successfully land a heavy attack. You wind up like a major league pitcher, then I assume something else happens because I usually get hit shortly after that.

Also, there's very little reason to use any weapon other than the pulse rifle as the marine. The shotgun would be good if close range didn't mean immediate death for the marine, and the flamer is half as effective as the shotgun. Maybe the sniper rifle is good, but I haven't been able to use it that much.

Dr. Boogie I discovered that Focus actually sucks for the alien, and that trying to melee a predator is ill-advised. In fact, not playing as the predator is ill-advised.

Dr. Boogie
Aliens vs. Predator

Fine, I'll put this shit in here.

I finally got a chance to try the multiplayer demo the other day (since the developers finally released a patch that allowed you to join/play multiplayer games). I'm kind of on the fence at the moment. I couldn't select predator from the get go, which was kind of strange. Still, I've found the Alien to be pretty rewarding, once you figure out that Focus lets you do killer tackles.

I'd say let's get an I-Mock game going, but the demo only supports quickmatches.

WhiteRat I'm eagerly awaiting this version of AVP as I played the first and second ones to death when they came out.

Still to this day one of the funnest times I ever had playing video games was a 10 hour multi-player session with 4 of my roommates on AVP 2. Predalien=gay.

Mockery The best Jaguar game was Kasumi Ninja because it had a Scottish fighter character named Angus MacGreggor who lifted up his kilt and shot fireballs at his enemies.

Fathom Zero
Aliens vs. Predator

EXCITED, YEAH

It's very pretty looking and the differences between the three classes(?) should make things awesome, just as much as the old games.
