The_Rorschach KC: Aren't the Kurds part of the intelligence community of which you spoke?

No.

KC: They foresaw Turkey's intentions a loooong time ago when the question came up of whether or not to enlist that country's assistance.

They knew Turkey was interested in the land, however, the US - and myself as well, for some odd reason - was under the impression we would be overseeing any parcelling of land which would take place. I know there are alot of folks smarter than me out there, but it never occoured to me once they might actually invade. Turkey is in an economic rut. They couldn't afford extended hostilities with anyone, and I thought this would keep them acting prudently.

KC: The U.S. should have been more clear on their restrictions of the Turks from the start. It's obvious that if the prospect of several million dollars didn't particularly sway them that they had an alternate agenda in mind when they finally agreed ... well, aside from gaining a new leader, I mean.

Can't disagree there, but as they say, hindsight is 20/20 right?

The_Rorschach Yeah, actually I did buddy. NSGD detatchment in Italy, '01.

Whether the help is "token" or not, it will be needed. Especially considering the message Turkey put out this morning. For those of you who missed it, they repeated their support to the US in allowing air access into Iraq, however disallowed the use of ground troups. Why?

Because they decided they were going to invade Northern Iraq for the land and oil. The Kurd said they'd fight them, the US told them not to push it, and Turkey responded they had every right to do so as the US did.

Yeah, we could use some friends, because this could potentially turn alot uglier than alot of people initially surmised.

I was a sergeant (E-5) with the 45th Support Group (Abn) in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia during the Gulf War so you can stick your condescension up your ass! I'm not doubting that intelligence can be gained from countries relatively close to the region and their help in providing staging areas for personnel, vehicles, ect is, of course, helpful. Most of the support you mentioned; however, did NOT come from those countries. THAT was one of my points. Another point was that in terms of military personnel and materiel their support would have very little impact except as "token" help. Have you actually served on any joint U.N. missions? Didn't think so.

The_Rorschach Chaos, you are a hopeless twit.

After a tour as a CT in the Navy, I can honestly say that we receive a great deal of intellegence, tactical and otherwise, from many countries. Israel, Kuwait and Afghanistan could provide information on Iraq that we may not have yet. Whether they've seen him as a threat or ally, surely they have been paying more keen attention to his actions that we have and in all probability know a few things we don't.

Go back to your homework and let the adults talk, okay?
