Dr. V I think he comes off as a big douche, but whatever.

Azrael Heath might actually be able to pull it off, he comes off as a big goof in every single movie he is in.

shakaconner I really wish that Crispin Glover would of been chosen, but im excited only for Heath Ledger for trying to give the joker A Clockwork Orange feel which is one of my favorite movies.

fastrunner It is a little disappointing to find out that Heath Ledger will be the Joker. But I hope that he proves us wrong and the movie turns out really good.

Mockery I believe it's going to be a great movie regardless, because Batman Begins is easily my favorite superhero movie. The only thing is I can't picture Heath as the Joker because he just doesn't look the part at all. But who knows, maybe with the right make-up 'n shit, we'll see. Still, it's hard to be as excited about the Batman sequel now that I know Heath is the Joker instead of somebody else. I just hope he ends up proving the naysayers wrong and somehow pulls off an awesome Joker.

AChimp I remember everyone complaining when they announced Tobey Maguire was going to be Spider Man, and then it turned out that he was really good at playing the character.

Everyone is basing their opinions on what they've seen of Ledger act in so far. No one has seen the auditions he did for the Joker; Batman Begins was pretty damn awesome, so I'm sure the filmmakers know what they're doing for this.

kahljorn I don't know for a european or what the hell ever guy heath ledger is he did a pretty good job playing a redneck in brokeback mountain, even though I hated that movie.

Protoclown Didn't Mark Hammil say in an interview that he CAN'T do the Joker voice if anybody is watching him? Aside from all the myriad other reasons why he wouldn't be good for the part, that's a pretty good strike against him right there.

I don't know about Heath Ledger because I haven't really seen his acting chops in any role that reminds me of the Joker, but I guess with make up they could make him LOOK the part at least...but it seems to me that there are plenty of other people who already DO look the part very well (Glover for instance) AND have a healthy crazy streak running through them.

They did a good job with Batman Begins, so for now I have faith that they know what they're doing...but I am a little disappointed.

Seven Force I think Heath Ledger would do a great job.

He was good in Brokeback Mountain.

shut up
Jul 24th, 2006 09:05 PM
James Or the Burton movies.

Eh, just forget it. I would have liked to see Hammill, but if someone else were picked that I felt would do the job, I'd be happy. We'll see if Ledger isn't a total mistake.

Just thank God it's not Glover.

I'd probably have agreed with that a few years ago when I hadn't read many comics with the joker and known a lot less about him. He IS completely fucking insane, but he's still got some charisma and has to be believably insane, if that makes any sense. What I'm trying to say is, some old dude who had his prime a couple decades ago and would just ham it up isn't exactly the perfect choice for one of the most profilic villains of all time. Maybe keeping the same spirit of batman begins and keeping the cheese factor toned down will allow people to forget about all the over the top shit in the schumacher batman movies.

Although now some other names have come up for who people would have wanted to see as The Joker. I'm also a fan of a few of thoses.

Bottom line is, I'm not sold on Ledger, but we'll see. Maybe he'll pull a Topher Grace and make me believe that nobody else BUT him could portray the character as awesomely.
