colossus

he transforms his body into organic steel.

Geggy Sorry I'm not familiar with colossus. I admit I'm not as serious of a comic reader as most of you are so go easy on me.

Emu, that's true. Although Mr. Incredible doesn't fly or wear capes, he does have that goody two shoe boy scout personality whose weakness is caring about people, at least in the eyes of villians.

Valuing life in not a weakness

Mike P You mean crappy Doctor Doom?
Jun 10th, 2005 06:15 PM
Spectre X Maybe he's thinking of Ultimate Dr. Doom.

How is biological metallic armor Doctor Doom? He has a suit of armor type of thing, not biological metallic armor.

Mike P Jack-Jack was more of a shape-shifter than anything else. Therefore, perhaps you'd best liken him to the Super-Skrull or something.
Jun 9th, 2005 09:57 PM
ItalianStereotype it's called paying homage, not ripping off.

and where did you get dr. doom from jack jack? I got the incredible hulk, the torch, and colossus. though I think he also had spikes or something, didn't he?

Mike P They might be rip-offs, but Brad Bird didn't intend for at least the family to be that way. I remember in an interview he did before the movie came out, each person's powers corresponded to the way that their role in Bird's eye.

the_dudefather the incredibles retains its awesomeness in the face of these so called rip offs

especially with the help of the babysitter

FS This is like saying all the characters in Watchmen are ripped off from Batman. If this was a serious superhero action movie I might agree with you, but it puts a fun spin on the clichés set by superhero comics, and it can't really do that if it has to waste time establishing a series of original heroes.

the cat and the dog are two different pets but theyre both pets, orange and apple are two different fruits but they're both fruits just as the ball thing and the at-at are different big machine thingy with destructuve powers but they both are big machine thingy with destructive powers. its the concept that are similiar.

Spectre X He's strong and nigh-invulnerable.

But that's just it. His powers are similar to those of the Thing, his place in the family is entirely different.
Jun 9th, 2005 01:03 PM
pjalne It's a postmodern take on a genre and it uses established traits in this genre to work as metaphors for family life.

And saying the ball machine thing is a rip-off of the AT-ATs is like saying a cat is a rip-off of a dog.

How the hell is Mr. Incredible supposed to be Thing anyway?
