And so ends another thrilling chapter in I-Mockery history.

executioneer Apr 1st, 2009 02:08 AM

video games are a stupid waste of money in the first place, getting UPPITY about them is really pointless

OxBlood Apr 1st, 2009 03:53 AM

Nah, Videogames are the shield that protects you from the goddamn boring world out there ;)

The browser is also great for watching Hulu and Youtube on your TV, yes you can use a ton of different things to do that but its built into the ps3, and it's not free on the wii anymore.
Also, controllers with built in rechargable batteries, you know for those people that dont really want to buy batteries or rechargable ones at that.

In my opinion this is fanboyism, plane and simple. Your are tooting the PS3 horne while talking shit about the xbox. If you like the PS3 thats fine. If you want to tell people how you think its awesome thats fine too. If the only way you can say good things about the PS3 is to talk shit about the xbox... well thats fanboyism. If you are a PS3 fanboy hell that is fine too. But dont stand there going on and on about how your not or cry when people defend the xbox your talking shit about. I have an xbox and I take good care of it. I did get a red ring problem but Microsoft owned up to the problem and fixed it on their dime, I didnt even have to pay for shipping. That says a lot about a company.

No, it says that they have a shoddily made piece of hardware and that they want to cover their asses from a lawsuit.

And i don't think i made the ps3 look better by talking truth about the 360, just comparing

Glad to see we're on the same page here :D

Micro, I'm sure if you sent a transcript of your posts (and some of our replies) from this thread to Sony, they'd see what a great asset you are to their further advancement in the field of gaming and would undoubtedly send you some free stuff. Stuff that you can use on your amazing console.

The unfortunate side-effect of this would be that you'd be so pre-occupied with your new, awesome Sony merch that you'd have less time to post here.

Microshock Apr 1st, 2009 09:57 PM

Just admit the 10 year life cycle! That's longer than some species live!

Dr. Boogie Apr 1st, 2009 10:23 PM

And so, with his retinue of talking points all but exhausted, Mircoshock was forced to liken his console to animals in the wild.

Guys did you know that both of those consoles are really bad

Really. I didn't think this forum would ever produce someone else who's opinion means so little.

Today, I hooked my laptop up to my xbox and uploaded pictures. Can your PS3 do that, micro? :lol

FFXII has the least amount of characterization. The story was garbage. I liked the fact that it took place in Ivalice but the majority of games that take place in Ivalice were bad.

Good ones:
1) FF Tactics
2) Vagrant Story

Bad ones:
1) FFXII
2) FF Tactics Advance
3) FFXII part two...the one for ds.

FF9 was really awesome. Only horrible part was the end boss.

For FFXII I really enjoyed the first 30 hours of it because I played it like it was FFXI. I solo'd till I got till level 25....then I got my second character.....the blond girl.

FFXII was just so bland. I would like to try the international zodiac edition because it looked like they actually individualized each char.

Zomboid Apr 3rd, 2009 03:06 AM

I didn't think it was possible for anyone to actively dislike FF7 unless they were pulling guitar woman shit where they just try to go against the grain.

I don't think it's the best game ever, nor would I even include it in my top 10, but it's still a solid entry in the series and definitely one of the best on the PSX.

Fuck, can't people like games anymore without there being douchebags from one extreme or the other coming in and either hating it or microshocking the fuck out of it?

executioneer Apr 3rd, 2009 04:56 AM

ff7 was pretty fun the first time i played it but i can't imagine wanting to play it again

EDIT: ff8 on the other hand was a godawful nightmare

My main gripe with 12 was the fact that there was no fantasy in the game (for a FF-Game). "There´s these bad guys here and the have these...you know...ships and stuff and they wage war and all that jazz". So? Where are the fucking demons? Where´s the suspense? Okay, it had a Dragon, I´ll give it that. Oh and the main character, that little halfnude bastard Vaan...I HATE that kid, honestly. Worst main character in a RPG ever.

I actually liked FF Tactics Advance 1 and 2, but not because of the story, I just love the job-system. FF9 on the other hand...IS good, I know that, but it´s not fun for me. I try to play through it for 10 years now but I always cancel the whole thing after about 10-15 hours (maybe because it runs 20% slower here, curse you, old PAL games!)

Oh and I actually liked FF8. Weak story, sure, but you got freaking powerful after a while, that makes up for any weak story.

I played it sometime in 2002 for the first time when I borrowed it from a friend. Never got past the first disk. Story was okay, but the combat was slow, and random encounters felt too frequent. Once I left Midgar, it just wasn't interesting anymore; the game's introduction was really gripping, but got less and less interested as the story started to slow down.

Compared to Chrono Trigger, an SNES game, FF7 felt dated as fuck. Why would I want random encounters, slow battles, overly long attack animations, and ugly Popeye graphics when Chrono Trigger has none of that? Sure, the graphics complaint is a bit unfair, but still...

To be fair, I really wanted to like it, because zomg it's FF7, but it didn't jive well with me. Don't get me wrong, though; I see why people make a big deal over it, and I'm not saying people aren't allowed to like it or some shit; I just think that, as a game, it's not very good, even for the time it was released.

I liked the political story, and I liked that the leading female and the leading male were already taken, meaning they weren't going to fall in love with each other at the credits. Basch and Noah/Gabranth's relationship was interesting, particularly at the very end, and Balthier was one smooth motherfucker. Larsa was surprisingly awesome too; I was certain that he'd double cross my party, because he seemed shifty at the start, but he ended up being pretty damn cool. And totally loaded with X-Potions :D

Also, a lot of people really dig Tactics Advance. It sold a lot of copies and has a really strong following. Meanwhile, I'd argue that the original Tactics is pretty flawed; I can't see precisely where I place my units or who I'm fighting, so it comes down to luck at the very start. The story requires sparknotes, and the Calculator or whatever is so fucking broken. Tactics A2, while having the worst characters and story in the history of strategy RPGs, had some deep gameplay and the job system was pretty damn addicting.

10,000 Volt Ghost Apr 3rd, 2009 09:38 AM

I really reccomend you getting past disc of FF7. I've played through it at least 4 times. It's not the end all be all game it's really solid. I hated FF8 the first time through but began to appreciate it after playing through it a few more times.

Same thing the first time I played FF tactics. I rented it, didn't come with instructions and died really quick because I didn't know what I was doing. After MUCH MUCH MUCH insisting by my friend to pick it up again and try I did. He showed me some pointers and I'm really appreciative of the fact that I was fortunate enough to get back into it. FF tactics blew my mind. It took a little whilte to follow the story but it's still really good. FF tactics advance was fun to play for a while, I liked the Vierra more than the other classes because it seemed they could get the best jobs. storywise though was a crock. I didn't even bother with FFTA2 so I can't comment on it.

FF6 is by far the best in my opinion.

I've been playing FFXI on and off again since 2004 and it has a special place in my heart for wasting the most time on a single game.

I pretty much hate it to be honest. I just don't care for that kind of thing. The art style, the story, the characters - it just makes me think "Mehh fuck this". The Japanese-ness of it is the main problem for me. Damn Japanese.

Guitar Woman Apr 3rd, 2009 03:58 PM

FF1, 6, and 7 are my favorites, and I don't hate 8 as much as everyone else seems to. I generally regard everything after that as an abortion, but now that I have a PS2 I might give 12 a chance if I ever happen across it.

I played Final Fantasy 2 and liked it, but couldn't be arsed to get very far because the leveling system was completely fucked. Props to this one for being the first to have set characters, instead of MAGE, FIGHTER, THIEF.

Final Fantasy Tactics is the most boring game I have ever played in my life.

I got my start with Tactics with FFTA. The story was negligible kiddy crap, but the game was fun.

Phoenix Gamma Apr 4th, 2009 09:56 AM

Actually, I got Tactics for PSP, and my experience consisted of:

-Picking random units because I can't see the map I'm fighting on
-What do you mean "you can only bring 5 people"? Why give me, like, 30 slots if I'll never use them?
-Waiting for my turn
-Special attacks LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG
-Oh god please let it be my turn now
-Another special attack is killing the frame rate again
-Oh for fuck's sake when's my turn?
-Okay I can go now. I attacked a guy.
-The enemy I just attacked ran away and healed.
-It's still not my turn yet.
-My lunch break is over now.

10,000 Volt Ghost Apr 4th, 2009 01:25 PM

Yeah, you have to get tactics for a console or even emulate it. The first battle is kind of bland because you don't really have any abilities yet. I couldn't even imagine playing it on a lunch break unless it was later on in the game. Battles generally take a long time. I would end up making Ramza a Warrior with Dual Wield from Ninja and Ignore Height from Dragoon, then give him an excalibur for +Haste and just go and woop on people in no time.

FF Tactics enemies also level up with your characters so the game is continually challenging.

This glitch only happened on my friends game but later on you come across a battlefield where he had to fight around 12 Monk enemies. Normally not that bad if there's a few of them but anytime you would attack one of them, two others would come over and chakra each other so they basically had almost a regen effect on.

Did they? I was smashing the bosses in two or five turns later on, they didnīt level up enough apparently. Now, a game that really did it wrong was Oblivion but thatīs another story :D

Guitar Woman Apr 4th, 2009 04:21 PM

What didn't Oblivion do wrong?

I think my favorite bug is the one where if two people are attacking you at once and you surrender to one of them, they'll start fighting each other. I got the countess of Bravil locked in a life and death duel with her ladyservant :picklehat

Actually, I could usually get one battle done over the course of a 15 minute break. But then I got stuck on the map with the guillotine, and that battle's such bullshit that, when combined with all the other crap I hated (not seeing where exactly my units are going, waiting forever to input a command, random battles, isometric maps) made me stop playing the game. I tolerated that stuff to a point, but once I got stopped at that map, I pretty much had my full.

I'd give it a C, only because I'd like to think that buried somewhere in that whole mess is a compelling game.

Emu Apr 5th, 2009 12:23 AM

That battle almost made me quit a few times. It's probably the second worst battle in the game after Velius. Holy shit I hate that one.

10,000 Volt Ghost Apr 6th, 2009 10:52 AM

There's so much to do in Tactics. You just have to put up with it for a little while to really get good. I was stuck on the warehouse battle for quite some time because of the black mages. The Velius battle wasn't too bad for me but I was forwarned about it. That's the one with Ramza and Velius by themselves at the start where you can steal the Genji equipment right?

Dimnos Apr 6th, 2009 06:04 PM

Does RE5 have the same co-op on PC it does on Xbox? If so and you have people to play with get it. If not get Fallout. They are both great games though...

Dr. Boogie Apr 6th, 2009 06:37 PM

Get Fallout 3. It's worth it, plus it's out right now.

10,000 Volt Ghost Apr 6th, 2009 06:39 PM

Tadao Apr 6th, 2009 06:42 PM

I thought RE5 was out for PC. From what I hear you guys saying, it's not that great solo. I like to play solo. I think I still wish Fallout 3 was the old style, but I've been playing shooters again so I guess now would be the prime time to play it.

Zomboid Apr 6th, 2009 06:48 PM

There's so much to do in it, though, that it really doesn't matter. Plus, the PC version lets you download and use mods to add even more.

This is a miracle. Everyone should not play their games. Just go outside. That way, the chance for failure is greatly reduced.

I've been playing punch out on the virtual console lately, but I haven't played an actual wii game in over a year.

Guitar Woman Apr 10th, 2009 01:47 PM

I forgot to mention that I was playing Lost and Damned, a much better and less man-date oriented game.

Dimnos Apr 10th, 2009 03:49 PM

Well I guess that is a bit sad then... :tear I thought that game was a download. Did it fry the HD or something?

Guitar Woman Apr 10th, 2009 04:13 PM

No, it just ate the disc, but LaD needs GTA4 to run itself because it's still set in Liberty City and downloading the entire city over again when you've already got it on a disc would be retarded and probably take up half the hard drive. I sort of wish they'd have made an entirely new city and released it as a seperate game, but the plot is way less angsty than GTA4 and brings back all the glorified violence hilarity of the other games, and feels like a "proper" new-age Grand Theft Auto. Again I highly reccommend everyone get Lost and Damned who hasn't already. It's awesome.

My favorite mission was when I had to assassinate some naked politician's greedmonger uncle when he got off a helicopter at an airport. I rode over there with a rocket launcher, shot all three cars for his convoy, stole the helicopter, and mowed him down with the blades as he was fleeing across the tarmac. He went soaring into the skybox and I flew off into the sunset.

HUGE SUCCESS.

WhiteRat Apr 10th, 2009 05:08 PM

Weren't you the one that said that the GTA series had terrible game design (or something along those lines)?

Guitar Woman Apr 10th, 2009 06:55 PM

I've been a fan of the series since 2?

One thing that makes me shit my pants over GTA are those missions. You know, the completely retarded, iconic, too-hard-for-their-own-good missions that you have to re-do a thousand times before you finish them, and that Vice City seems to be entirely comprised of. I might have been referring to that.

GTA's progression also being mission-based, the narratives usually feel sort of disjointed or something, but that's really not a big problem and the spectacular writing more than makes up for that.

That was after the first time I had played GTA4 and couldn't wrap my head around how handbrake turns don't work anymore. That's sort of made up for by how hard it is to flip vehicles over, which I am very fucking thankful for.

The AI is still retarded, and every GTA has been loaded with bugs and weird inconsistencies (by which I was able to kill everyone in some bar in the desert in San Andreas, leave, and then come in and find they had all respawned so I could do it again), the PS2 version of Vice City in particular.

WhiteRat Apr 10th, 2009 08:59 PM

That was a bad thing? You need to pull the rod out of your ass and stop nit picking every fucking little thing in a game. I would love to hear your thoughts on the perfect woman.

GTA is the only game where the bugs have actually enhanced game play for me. Nothing beats seeing a cessna sliding down a hill around a corner only to crash right into my unsuspectinig self.

Emu Apr 10th, 2009 09:33 PM

Guitar Woman Apr 11th, 2009 12:04 AM

I wasn't saying they were BAD, I was just validating my statements for Limey McPersecute over there.

The only thing really wrong with GTA is how on the PC versions it's impossible to fucking do anything with a plane or helicopter. And that's really my fault for being too poor to spring for an Xbox controller for my computer.

Dr. Boogie Apr 11th, 2009 12:28 AM

I've lost whole days playing it though.

How is Dawn of War II? I have been tempted to pick that one up for a while now. Is Empire: Total War half as fun as Rome: Total War?

Zhukov Apr 14th, 2009 11:40 AM

Both are pretty damn good.

But seriously, Dawn of War II is really different from the original. It's not worse, just different. I sort of wish it was an update rather than a revision or whatever because while it's refined and balanced and tight and all that, it does seem a little limited. Still great fun, and the engine is awesome too. Haven't tried multiplayer yet.

As for Empire, I only played Medieval: Total War, but it's as good as/better than that. The same game with added bonuses, really. I prefer the time period too.

This was supposed to be in the "what are you playing now" thread.

I've been playing Wheelman, it's fine, just full of bugs and crap, and the character models look pretty shitty.

Otherwise, it's a driving game with a ton of setpieces and fun vehicle bashing

Is Wheelman basically the next Driver game? I haven't played it but that's what I'm assuming.

Zomboid Apr 15th, 2009 01:04 PM

I'd wait for someone more credible to come along with an answer to that.

Microshock Apr 15th, 2009 02:29 PM

No, it's Vin Diesel opening up a studio called Tigon, then working with Midway or something to put his model in the game.

And a movie is coming out about this as well

:lol

Sam Apr 15th, 2009 08:11 PM

Yeah Zomboid you don't even have a PS3 so your opinion means DICK.

MetalMilitia Apr 16th, 2009 12:59 PM

Hey guys guess what? My PS3 died (yellow light of death) and because I bought it pre-owned Sony wont replace it for any less than £140. How much did it cost you guys to replace your 360s again? :rolleyes

added: I've been searching the internets for some solution I can try myself. I found a post on the Gamespot forums which exactly described my problem but the most constructive answer the gamespot community could offer was to tell the guy that he clearly didn't even own a PS3 as they don't fail.

A big fat $0! I even had to pay a whopping $0 for shipping as well! God damn Microsoft! >:

Dimnos Apr 16th, 2009 01:31 PM

Oh and those fag bastards even had the audacity to provide me with a box and packing materials. I mean WTF! What if I wanted to use my own box I didnt have laying around? Huh? Maybe I wanted to spend that extra $10! Fuckers!

MetalMilitia Apr 16th, 2009 02:17 PM

I just bought a new one instead of pissing about with repairs and shit. Though the old one has stolen a DVD of mine which was in it at the time. Because it's a slot-loading drive I can't eject the fucker without powering the system on... which I can't do because it's broken.

Tadao Apr 16th, 2009 03:02 PM

Slot loaders don't have that little paperclip hole?

MetalMilitia Apr 16th, 2009 03:08 PM

Nah doesn't seem to, unless it's hidden behind the flap or something.

Sam Apr 16th, 2009 03:14 PM

Sounds like you gonna have to bust that bitch open.

Dimnos Apr 16th, 2009 03:18 PM

You should bust it up office space style and post a vid here.

MetalMilitia Apr 16th, 2009 04:46 PM

I'll probably try and repair it myself or send it back to Sony and have it repaired once I get another HD TV for the bedroom.

Tadao Apr 16th, 2009 04:49 PM

The searches say that you need to unscrew the case to get the disk out, but it cancels warranties. You don't have one anyways so you may as well have a poke around.

Zomboid Apr 16th, 2009 06:34 PM

My xbox got the RROD earlier this week, but here's the thing: I was suppose to be finishing up one last project for school, and then studying for finals. It's like my xbox sacrificed itself to save me from the potential of lower grades. Like the Phoenix, though, it will return to me :tear

Sam Apr 16th, 2009 08:09 PM

Godbless us all. :tear

Womti Apr 17th, 2009 01:43 PM

hey guys guess what I got a GBC

Chojin Apr 17th, 2009 03:08 PM

I notice you didn't use the word 'buy'.

Wesley Willis found some good shit in dumpsters, too.
