People don't know my accent, nor do I. :(

sspadowsky Mar 5th, 2006 08:13 PM

I have been told by several people that I sound like Brian from Family Guy. I must admit that pleases me.

Dr. Boogie Mar 6th, 2006 01:43 AM

The Retro Kat Mar 6th, 2006 12:18 PM

I have a weird Chicago accent...not super fan Chigago, cause I'm not polish, but I do prefer "d" over "th".

Dr. Boogie Mar 6th, 2006 01:52 PM

I have a deep voice and no accent. I believe MLE knows what I sound like because was talked back when we still had that thread about the computer phone... program thingie.

Ask sspad, too.

If you've heard that "I Will Beat Pacman" song, that's pretty much how I always talk. Anybody who's ever met me in person can verify this.

Everyone has an acccent to varying degrees, it's like saying you have a face with no features!

I can't think of anything anyone would have heard of that talks like me. I pick up accents in every places I've lived (except Wales thank god) and have a mixture of the lot.

the_dudefather Mar 7th, 2006 11:43 AM

i have a northern irish accent, which is much like you see on tv even stuff like saying 'and that there' or 'like' every other sentence.

its not so much the friendly 'top o' the mornin' accent, but more 'we are going to GAIN oor INDEPENDANCE by ANY MEANS nessiCARY', like

Girl Drink Drunk Mar 7th, 2006 03:10 PM

My accent is "plain", but for whatever reason, I uncontrolably talk with an Irish or british accent. Donno why. Just gets stuck in my head.lol

davinxtk Mar 7th, 2006 05:44 PM

my accent is pretty damn nonregional but my word usage and exclaimations are clearly northeastern. i tend to speak in a condescending tone rather inadvertantly.

i pick on people's accents all the time. i can usually point out an accent someone has, even if it's just from having lived somewhere.

midwest accents are really easy to pick out, so i have no idea what the hell seth is talking about. especially ohio, karen :p

i do use y'all somewhat frequently and if i get too excited or angry i get careless and usually end up sounding southern. god only knows why, i've never been down south.

my mom grew up in NYC and i grew up here in MA so i think the combination really cancelled itself out.

oh, and speaking english with a nonregional american accent really does mean that you're not using an accent at all. that's how those words are pronounced phonetically. it's nothing like a face without features, that was a rather inapt analogy.

sspadowsky Mar 7th, 2006 06:05 PM

Dr. Boogie sounds like Ben Stein, only more sedated. And less Jewish.

If you do not sound like the Queen, you are not speaking English right.

ziggytrix Mar 7th, 2006 09:36 PM

But she has a British accent!

No one speaks purely phonetically. Even the most monotone speakers stress different syllables and emulate the speech patterns of their environment.

A "nonregional" american accent is still an American accent.

This is the dumbest semantics argument I've seen in ages. :)

Dr. Boogie Mar 7th, 2006 09:48 PM

Indeed. We are not amused.:posh

Terra Mar 7th, 2006 10:44 PM

So we all need to actually each other's voices rather than describe them.

Fire up the phone call list.
