If you hate completely random wackiness then it's definitely not for you. Although It does have great music by Oingo Boingo and a topless character for no reason. I'd recommend just watching clips online, the plot doesn't matter much, If you watch enough and aren't enraged by it then I highly recommend finding a copy.

I played the demo for dragoon a few times but it seemed like a shit ton of constant button presses during battle.

It's really not that hard to perform them though. Once you get the hang of it, you barely think about it until you get a new one.
It's also one of my very favorite RPGs. :)
