I've been doodling a bunch lately...NSF H-scroll/56k

1- Random doodles:

2- concept art:

3- Some more concept art:

4- Fucking about with cheap-ass felt tip pens:

5- Fucking about with my tablet:

6- Doodles again:

7- And again:

8- And again (By the way, the robot is referring to the other, bigger robot on the same page):

9- Some more doodles, most of which I'm not that happy with:

10- And the latest:

These were posted in chronological order, from the oldest to the newest ones to show any improvements on my part. I numbered them for you so it's easier to comment on an individual one without having to quote a titanic sheet of sketches.

Shyandquietguy Feb 18th, 2005 02:48 PM

You're definitely getting better.

Note: I like the portraits of the old guy on number 8. The Hellboy on number 10 is keen as well.

Helm Feb 18th, 2005 03:13 PM

3 and 2 are excellent. You've gotten a lot better. Your women still suffer a lot, though. I am beginning to see traces of a distinct style in the way you structure faces, and that's great, just as long as you don't get trapped in the same thing over and over.

I suggest, at this time, to start drawing buildings and food, in perspective, two point, three point and one point until you're comfortable with that sort of thing. At least a little. Draw cars. a bridge or something.

pjalne Feb 18th, 2005 03:30 PM

Wow, that's quite the leap from what you've done before.

liquidstatik Feb 18th, 2005 03:58 PM

Number 8 looks real good, i think.

King Hadas Feb 18th, 2005 04:52 PM

That's pretty slick Spectre X. I like how different all the characters look, if most of your doodles were of bald folks I could easily tell them apart just by their facial structures and that Hellboy on 10 is nice.

Rongi Feb 18th, 2005 05:02 PM

the top hat dude in number 9 looks like slash

good job spectre, this is definatly a step foward. one problem though, the human in 4 has odd body proportions and looks either really fat instead of muscular. but you've fixed this in other doodles, so it might not be a problem for you anymore.

Rez Feb 18th, 2005 05:10 PM

"who designed this? rob liefield?"

:lol

i dig the cowboy in 6 and most of the last one. good work.

MLE Feb 18th, 2005 05:11 PM

as helm said, you're really not that far off when it comes to female forms. you just need to know what to accent.

Rez Feb 18th, 2005 05:15 PM

just what the hell is a wacom board anyway.. that made it look all fun and stuff.

Spectre X Feb 19th, 2005 06:22 PM

Thanks for the commetns and helpful tips everybody.

I'll try doing those things as soon as I can find the time, Helm.

But right now...

I'm working on a project.

See if you can recognize anyone.

liquidstatik Feb 19th, 2005 06:44 PM

omg is that ozzy? :O!

Spectre X Feb 19th, 2005 06:52 PM

Yes.

There's three more famous musicians there, one not so very recognizable, though.

pjalne Feb 19th, 2005 07:13 PM

Freddy Mercury, Billy idol and Flea?

Spectre X Feb 19th, 2005 07:16 PM

Right on all counts except for Flea. That's supposed to be Rammstein's Till Lindeman. I tried to make him look all creepy and stuff, but I failed.

BlueOatmeal Feb 25th, 2005 11:03 PM

"Will Fuck For Love" :)

Rongi Feb 25th, 2005 11:35 PM

why does mercury look like captain crunch?

EisigerBiskuit Feb 26th, 2005 04:29 AM

Arrr

Ninjavenom Feb 28th, 2005 12:04 AM

Nuts, you're making me jealous. Looks like i've gotta get back to work to offer some competition. :posh

Spectre X Feb 28th, 2005 01:47 PM

Yes, you must. It's been far too long since we've seen any drawings come from you.

Helm Feb 28th, 2005 09:17 PM

haha your billy idol rules. FINGERLESS GLOVE POWER

jin Feb 28th, 2005 10:35 PM

I think that you are doing some great things here, spectre ;>

Spectre X Mar 1st, 2005 05:28 PM

Thanks, this means a lot to me coming from two great artists. :)

Helm Mar 2nd, 2005 10:11 AM

*helm me looks around to spot the great artists*

also

omg asterisk action!

Supafly345 Mar 2nd, 2005 11:01 AM

Much better than the contourless dildo robots you did before. This reminds me of what I did in highschool.

Spectre X Mar 12th, 2005 05:48 PM

So, VAMPIRES!

EisigerBiskuit Mar 12th, 2005 07:00 PM

That is one sexy bat.

Spectre X Mar 13th, 2005 06:01 PM

So I started work on an image I plan on finishing. It's basically an in-joke for the Penny-Arcade forums. I was in an art battle against Natrat, the girl in the picture, but we teamed up against a greater evil. Now we're the ACTION FORCE!

He's a guy, she's a girl! THEY FIGHT CRIME!

Updates might include a big pile of corpses to indicate how much crime has already been fought.

Rongi Mar 13th, 2005 06:12 PM

nice job on your gun

Helm Mar 13th, 2005 08:34 PM

I like how your anatomical knowledge and stylistic choices got 24352465% better in 6 months or something. You'll be a great comic artist, one day, if you continue like that.

Anonymous Mar 13th, 2005 09:44 PM

yeah i like that last one :x

MLE Mar 13th, 2005 10:12 PM

i actually like the style of faces you've stuck with. they're very simplistic, but the way you draw them, you're getting the ability to capture more emotion with them each time. keep working on that.

also, if you wanted to be recognized as a better artist quicker, focus on the hard chiseled male faces and features.

if you want to get better overall, then practice females cause you can't do them well yet. you're getting closer, though. i have issues drawing thin girls, so i have to practice that. we all have things we need to practice. seriously though, i don't give critiques to people i used to not like much, but as helm said, you're getting better very quickly.

you have a pretty good grasp on proportions as a whole. a lot of people have issues with that.

Spectre X Mar 22nd, 2005 03:59 PM

Thank you people.

I erased the pencils, cleaned up the lines a bit and filled in the blacks.

Now if only I could colour a damn.

MLE Mar 23rd, 2005 06:26 PM

scan and use photoshop with layers set on multiply. that's probably your safest bet for starters

Immortal Goat Mar 24th, 2005 03:23 PM

Very nice stuff. I've been getting lazy with my pencil drawings, and I should get back to that. Thanks for posting this stuff, or I might never have decided to get back to it.

Spectre X Mar 26th, 2005 09:15 AM

You're welcome. :)

I started doodling som more. Practicing faces and stuff.

I'm happiest with the asian girl in the top left corner. First girl I ever drew that looked like a girl.

Immortal Goat Mar 26th, 2005 01:24 PM

I really like that old asian dude that looks like the guy from Kill Bill 2. Is that what you were going for?

Spectre X Mar 26th, 2005 04:00 PM

I was going for old asian wise man that can kick a lot of asses, which is basically the same thing.

Sicktodeathmx Mar 26th, 2005 04:59 PM

I could tell Billy Idol :)
And Ozzy of course

werewolf Apr 24th, 2005 06:58 AM
