New Weird Al album in September

"Straight Outta Lynwood"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_Outta_Lynwood

I just came across this while browsing Wikipedia. His own website really doesn't even give out any information about it other than it's due to hit shelves on Septembet 26.

I hope this isn't a disappointment since hip hop is kinda gay. :(

executioneer Aug 7th, 2006 01:50 AM

well i love the concept anyways :(

Mad Melvin Aug 7th, 2006 08:12 AM

In case you guys didn't notice, you can download "you're pitiful" from the new album at weirdal.com

Mad Melvin Aug 7th, 2006 08:14 AM

ooops. Apparently it's not on the album. But hey, It's still a new song.

Grislygus Aug 7th, 2006 11:37 AM

I don't listen to the songs that he parodies, therefore they won't be as funny as they could be. :( Ah, well. The videos should still be funny.

Dr. V Aug 13th, 2006 12:27 AM

I actually prefer his originals to the parodys.

In his more recent songs, I'll agree with you.

Sheeee-yit, son.

"Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung"
"One More Minute"
"Buckingham Blues"
"Happy Birthday"
"Stuck in a Closet with Vanna White"
"You Make Me"
and of course
"Good Old Days"

All of those came out at least 19 years ago, and they're brilliant. His originals have always been better than his parodies. In my opinion. Which is correct.

Esuohlim Sep 7th, 2006 08:16 PM

Weird Al is probably the absolute main reason why I love the bands that I love, since some of his style-parodies totally rocked my socks.

"Dog Eat Dog" = Talking Heads
"You Make Me" = Oingo Boingo
"Everything You Know Is Wrong" = They Might Be Giants

I had obsessions with these songs long before I even discovered the corresponding bands he was trying to mimic.

I sorta like the B-52s, but "Mr. Popeil" sucks. >:

And I didn't know "Genius In France" was supposed to be Zappa's style until long after I started to dig Zappa music, but I don't like "Genius In France" all that much. :(

New album in three weeks. :(

Grislygus Sep 7th, 2006 08:28 PM

"Dare to be Stupid" made fun of Devo, right?

DuFresne Sep 8th, 2006 01:50 AM

uh huh

Mockery Sep 8th, 2006 02:55 AM

It has been said that your band isn't truly successful until Weird Al has made a parody of song based on it. Truer words have never been spoken.

And speaking of his original songs, I'm disappointed that none of you have mentioned "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnessota" yet. That song RULES.

:lol Fucking impeccable.

DuFresne Sep 8th, 2006 10:49 AM

So does that mean Chamillionaire is truly successful? :(

Dr. V Sep 11th, 2006 12:06 AM

I think my favorite original is either Franks 2000" tv or Young, Dumb, and Ugly. Yeah they're both on the same album, but I like that one.

Rez Sep 12th, 2006 02:56 AM

i hate him and everything he does :(

executioneer Sep 12th, 2006 12:50 PM

OH YOU

Esuohlim Sep 13th, 2006 10:56 PM

I haven't yet but I will by next week. I've heard mixed reviews about it ranging from "disappointment" to "greatest one so far".

A review please, Dr. Vulturewarts :eek

Yggdrasill Oct 1st, 2006 05:06 PM

I've never heard any of the songs he parodys in the album but his originals are great. Also you get animated videos for half the songs on the album. :love Weird Al :rock

Dire Flamingo Oct 1st, 2006 08:44 PM

"Albequrque" or however you spell it was my favorite song in 5th grade. Seriously, we must have played that song 8 times in a row on the way to science camp. :)

tenno Oct 20th, 2006 06:09 PM

dare to be stupid, my official, un official theme song.

Esuohlim Oct 21st, 2006 10:03 AM

All right since I have time and money to blow today I'm finally going to get this.

I hope Weird Al makes a lot of butt and fart jokes :eek

ArrowX Oct 21st, 2006 02:05 PM

"Nature Trail to Hell in 3D" is easily my most fav Al song ever.

This album is pretty wicked so far.

Sam Oct 21st, 2006 03:27 PM

I've heard better from Weird Al!

I really only like White & Nerdy, Polkarama! (because I love all the polkas), Virus Alert, Confession Part III, Weasel Stomping Day, and Do I Creep You Out?

tenno Oct 23rd, 2006 12:30 PM

that's like half the album.....liking 3 songs means its a hit.

executioneer Dec 29th, 2006 07:22 PM

i liked this album better than poodle hat, which i guess means it's probably my second least favorite? but that's still allright

highlights: the fact that "i'll sue ya" and "close but no cigar" are almost instantly recognizable style parodies, and i liked "don't download this song" because it kind of pokes fun of both sides of the filesharing issue

also hooray for bill plympton still getting work :o

bad:
um, is taylor hicks some sort of american idol guy or something? i don't think i've ever heard the song that "do i creep you out" is parodying so i don't know, but it's terrible

also, while i like "canadian idiot", i'm afraid that it's gonna be similar to "achy breaky song" in that i hate the original song so much that it's gonna ruin the parody for me, too
