National Blood Shortage
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...72/ai_65539092
How do we have a blood shortage when we have so many corpses laying around? Blood is viable for up to an hour after death. Other countries do it, let's start tappin em. |
THATS IMMORAL YOU DESECRATOR
Why not take all their viable internal organs while you're at it? Just askin'.

I'd rather not have a dead guy's blood in me
Better him than you.
because the blood just gets sucked out and thrown down the sink half the time anyways.
*hangs head*
I keep meaning to donate blood, but I never seem to get around to it. |
Well, the thing is you can't donate your own blood on your dead donor card in the US.
I tried donating blood once, and I'm never ever going back because I don't lose blood well, and because the Red Cross is the absolute most incompetent group of people I've ever seen.
You've obviously never dealt with DHS. :confused
What a waste of taxpayer dollars that was. I wonder how much money it cost to come up with that stupid color code system.
i aint donating shit that blood is mine

I donated blood a week ago. I've given over three gallons in the past seven years.
The cookies are that good. |
Here's a fun story about the first and only time I gave blood:
I was a senior in high school, and I was not looking forward to another pre-calc class with Mr. Dipshit Fresh-Outta-College Teecher Guy. Then, I noticed that there was a blood drive going on that day. What fantastic timing! Sure, I thought to myself, you've never been a big fan of needles, but it's that, or go to class. So there I am, sitting in a lawn chair in the gymnasium while some fat broad shoves a bamboo shoot into my elbow. Hell, I don't care. I'm ditching class, and I've got an excuse. So while my blood is getting donated, I look around and see one of my friends helping with some of the non-medical stuff (handing out T-shirts and cold pizza). I wave to him, and he comes over to talk with me for a bit. Oh yeah, we say, giving blood is such a noble thing to do. Blah blah blah. Then all of a sudden, my friend gets this horrified look on his face. I ask him "what?" Then, things start to get really dark, and I said "uh oh". Apparently, while we were talking, my face went completely pale and my lips turned blue. After a minute of lying back and not talking, I get better to the point where I can see and hear again, which was a plus. After a few more minutes, the ogress who jammed the needle into me says I'm all done, but that I shouldn't stand up too quickly. Sure enough, I look over and see some kid jump off his lawn chair and walk for the exit. He takes about two normal steps, then two steps like he's walking against a strong wind, and then he starts falling. Lucky for him, a couple volunteers saw it coming and were there to catch him. I chuckled to myself. That'll teach him to be in such a hurry. I finally get well enough to stand up and leave. They give me a sticker, I pass on the pizza, and they forget to give me a shirt. What a damn gyp. |
I can't give blood for a couple of months because I was in a 3rd world country.
I really want to work up the courage to donate blood, but I'm terrified of needles/things being inserted through my skin. Plus, my Mom had some trouble with donating blood a while ago and I'm worried that might happen to me too.
Oh, and after a blood donation at my high school, I heard stories like "They kept missing the vein". Dang if I'm going to lay there while they take multiple attempts to shove something in my arm that I don't even want there. |
i'm only giving blood to Khorne and it ain't gonna be mine :chaos

I give every 8 weeks. It sucks but I do it because I don't do much other charitable work. This costs me nothing. I actually get cookies and juice out of the deal. Okay!
Are there still a few places that actually pay you for this anymore?
I used to donate every few months. But, I've since developed a drinking problem. Apparently, a BAC equal to my shoe size is a disqualifier.
You know what they say about guys with a big BAC!

even if i wanted to give blood, every time i've needed to give some for tests they've had to jab me more than once.
every. fucking. time. |
Ouch. That must suck.
I'm guessing they had a hard time finding your veins? Ohh, and funny blood-related story: My health teacher told us that oxygenated blood is red and unoxygenated blood is blue. That's why there are veins in our hands and arms that are blue. Apparently in one class he taught, this kid said "That's not true! I cut open one of those blue veins and the blood was red!" My health teacher apparently then told the kid that by cutting open the vein, he let oxygen into the blood. :rolleyes |
Where's the funny blood-related story?
Well, my class (and the teacher) thought that it was pretty funny that the kid deliberately cut open his hand to see blue blood and then failed to realize that the oxygen in the air would make it red.
Unoxygenated blood is blue, as one can tell by the blueness of one's veins. This makes sense because vein tissue is completely transparent. Complete sense, in fact.
Yeah, what he said. NOT FUNNY!
I understand that blue blood is unoxygenated, hence the blue veins. This kid felt the need to cut a blue vein open and see for himself.... Oh never mind. >:
