Road trip music

I might be taking a long driving trip soon and I've alway's wanted to make some CD's that's great to listen to while driving. Any suggestions? I'm also looking into a DAB player (anybody got one?)

Royal Tenenbaum Feb 29th, 2004 01:23 PM

Steppenwolf's Greatest Hits. :lol

Drew Katsikas Feb 29th, 2004 01:41 PM

I prefer Steppenwolf's greatest hit's for a game of cards. Either that or Jet. The worse, the better.

Rongi Feb 29th, 2004 03:22 PM

The best of Willie Nelson :(

Bobo Adobo Feb 29th, 2004 05:52 PM

Any J.J. Cale cd.

Deep Purple - "Highway Star" will get you speeding tickets :) .

Royal Tenenbaum Feb 29th, 2004 06:16 PM

Neil Young, specifically Harvest, After the Gold Rush, and On the Beach, is also a good idea.

And some Weezer.

Rongi Feb 29th, 2004 06:17 PM

Any good country music is good road trip music.

I listiened to nothing but Willie Nelson on my trip to Ohio

Drew Katsikas Feb 29th, 2004 06:34 PM

Neu!'s self titled album will make you want to go 80mph. God, you Canadians, with your kph.

Oh, and the Feelies' crazy rythms.

sloth Feb 29th, 2004 06:47 PM

qotsa
krux
dozer
brant bjork
kyuss
scissorfight
pharaoh overlord
nebula
fu manchu
black sabbath

a few cruising bands, great for long journeys.

Bobo Adobo Feb 29th, 2004 07:01 PM

Bluegrass music - like Vasser Clements, Stanley Brothers, Del McCoury Band, etc.

Grateful Dead.

Rongi Feb 29th, 2004 07:09 PM

The only thing a Greatful Dead cd is good for is curing insomnia or using the CD as a coaster.

glowbelly Feb 29th, 2004 07:09 PM

i make mix cds of all my faves when i'm takin long road trips. that or i let my boyfriend pick out the tunes. i like spontaneity when i'm driving and i also like listening to stuff i haven't heard before when i'm on the road.

after about the fourth hour, sometimes i'll tune into static. helps me relax.

Lots of irony in that statement, coming from a guy who just suggested Willie Nelson.

And not every Grateful Dead song sounds like Sugaree.

glowbelly Feb 29th, 2004 07:29 PM

i've never liked 'em.

If you like static, you'll love Metal Machine Music!

Seriously, check it out. By Lou Reed.

Rongi Feb 29th, 2004 07:51 PM

I never said every song sounds like Sugaree. All I'm saying is that the dead suck balls and I piss on Jerry's grave.

Royal Tenenbaum Feb 29th, 2004 07:55 PM

Have you heard Workingman's Dead or American Beauty? If not, shut the fuck up, shot yourself in the face, and then download "Box of Rain."

Rongi Feb 29th, 2004 07:56 PM

How can I shot myself in the face?

And if I'm dead, how can I download a song? Maybe you should have said "Shut the fuck up, download Box Of Rain, and shoot yourself in the face", Timmy.

Bobo Adobo Feb 29th, 2004 07:58 PM

I took a shit on FZ's grave. just though you should know... :)

Rongi Feb 29th, 2004 07:59 PM

OOH BOBO YOU MAKE ME SO MAD :explode

Edit: just though you should know

That sentence makes no sense

Bobo Adobo Feb 29th, 2004 08:06 PM

Damn, I really should hire an editor to proofread all of my posts, and correct all of the misleading typos. :/

Rongi Feb 29th, 2004 08:07 PM

I'm a grammer nazi, what can I say.

Drew Katsikas Feb 29th, 2004 11:19 PM

Hey, easy on the Nazi's.

sadie Mar 1st, 2004 12:01 AM

i :love zappa and the dead. so there.

when we used to go on family vacations, my dad didn't like to stop for my brothers and me to go to the bathroom. i don't remember who started it or on which trip, but it became a family thing to parody willie nelson when the urge became urgent: "on the commode again, i just can't wait to get on the commode again." :(

That was the point. :lol Do me a favour, shoot yourself in the back of the head execution style and then get a sense of humour.

The Dead are way better than Zappa. Zappa only had like one good album.

Emu Mar 1st, 2004 01:05 AM

I'd make another joke about your screen name in comparison to your taste in music right now, but that'd be like beating a very dead horse.

DamnthatDavid Mar 1st, 2004 01:37 AM

I listen to CCR, Queen, Judas Priest, and AC/DC on my trips.

Supafly345 Mar 1st, 2004 08:36 AM

If you are white then anything by Charlie Daniels works.

I'd make another joke about shooting someone shooting themselves in the face, but you'd use a cum-shot. >:

The Dead have 2 masterpieces, there other stuff is fairly medicore. You're a completely fucking moron if you can't appreciate them.

Rongi Mar 1st, 2004 02:59 PM

Or maybe I just think the Dead suck fat black cock and that is my opinion and maybe you should stop trying to force your shitty opinion on me and also stop being a nerd, you nerd.

And maybe your sense of humor sucks.

FartinMowler Mar 1st, 2004 07:27 PM

Thank's for the suggestions and I liked the input from Rongi/Bobo and Royal. I'm leaving for a long trip soon and most likely won't be back on the internet for a while (no joke) this time. :)

Rongi Mar 1st, 2004 09:07 PM

And out of complete and utter curiosity, why the fuck did you bring Zappa into this? That's like having a conversation about peanuts and than saying "peanuts suck, oranges are better. And lemons are only good for one thing".

Bobo Adobo Mar 1st, 2004 10:58 PM

If your talking to me, I just brought it up to mock you.

I actually like Frank Zappa. I think he has a lot of good albums. I own Joe's Garage, Overnight Sensation, The Mothers Live at the Fillmore East June 1971, Apostrophe, Jazz from Hell, Absolutely Free, Shut up and Play yer Guitar, and Weasels Ripped My Flesh. All IMO great albums.

Royal Tenenbaum Mar 2nd, 2004 12:16 AM

You need Freak Out! It's the best one.

sadie Mar 2nd, 2004 12:25 AM

help, i'm a rock.

I was talking to SSA. And you should get Hot Rats, if you like jazz :)

And Freak Out! is FZ's most overrated album ever. It's great and everything, but he made better albums.

Dole Mar 2nd, 2004 10:38 AM

I absolutely fucking love Freak Out. Its just a great 60's rock* record in my opinion....so many fab tunes on there, not completly typical FZ tunes, but fantastic nonetheless.

*edit: that isnt adequate..there is doo-wop on there, rock n roll, psychedelia...

Bennett Mar 2nd, 2004 12:22 PM

"The Biz" by The Sea and Cake is excellent road trip music

Protoclown Mar 2nd, 2004 12:40 PM

I just wanted to say that the Grateful Dead fucking suck and Royal is a complete fucking moron if he can't appreciate that fact.

Bobo Adobo Mar 2nd, 2004 02:03 PM

Your nerdy ass opinion isn't appreciated. Go listen to your Tom Waits, and your rap music. >:

Have you heard American Beauty? If not, fuck off.

mesobe Mar 2nd, 2004 02:43 PM

any band that allows you to legally "pirate" *any* live music of theirs and freely share it is a god ammong bands.

Grateful Dead owns you.

Bobo Adobo Mar 2nd, 2004 03:32 PM

Egg - Zactly

And its not like they only let you bring in little DAT recorders into their shows. They actually have tapers sections, so that you can bring in profetional live recording equipment.

Hell I do too. There is not one song on that CD I don't like. It's just that I know a few people who buy Freak Out! and then never give any of his other stuff a fair chance.

the kinks :bestthread

Big Papa Goat Mar 2nd, 2004 08:33 PM

Why does every thread with royal rongi and bobo turn into a thread about how much the Dead suck/rule?

Rongi Mar 2nd, 2004 08:33 PM

I think this is actually the first one...
