Cloverfield? Anyone?

I hope this lives up to the hype. The trailer makes it look really fucking good. I have never seen Lost, so I know nothing of JJ Abrams. But I love destruction, especially on a large scale.

Make with the speculation.

Fathom Zero Dec 25th, 2007 12:49 PM

J.J. Abrams produced Mission Impossible III, yes?

Zomboid Dec 30th, 2007 07:29 PM

Yaaaaay. I've been looking forward to this since the first teaser. I'm really pumped for it. It LOOKS like it will be really good but ya never know. I have a gif somewhere that has a close up view of when the monster is walking between buildings and you can kinda make out the legs and part of the body.

Its been built up so much anything short of the best movie ever made will be probably a disappointment to most, though I do have high expectations and will probably see it.

J.J. Abrams isn't my favorite guy but this movie looks like it will be a good one, if they drop the whole "blair witch unsteady cam" gimmick. i don't mind a couple of scenes but if it is the whole movie.....urk!

doopa Jan 1st, 2008 09:54 PM

lost movie, godzilla, jesus returns, live action simpsons movie, the 4th installment of the matrix, mars attacks 2, predator 3, aliens 20, star trek the borg movie, waterworld from outspace, something I can't guess

Cloverfield. According to IMDB it "Revolves around a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people."

And the almighty wikipedia says "J. J. Abrams conceived of a new monster after he and his son visited a toy store in Japan. He explained, "We saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable."

Ok
1. A giant silverfish. My god those things terrify me.
2. A giant angry self-flinging piece of poo.
3. A giant Crispin Glover off his meds.
4. My boss (as a giant) bringing an army of creatures from the evil planet she came from.
5. A giant wet hairball created from the foulness trapped in all the shower drains of the world.
6. A giant spaghetti. I hate spaghetti :(

Zbu Manowar Jan 2nd, 2008 01:03 AM

I think it should be the ex-StayPuft Marshmellow Man, bitter over his makeover into the KeepRegular Tofu Man. His power? Gross commercialism.

Fathom Zero Jan 2nd, 2008 04:15 AM

I still think it should be Satan.

By the way, in the trailer in the theaters, like the one in AvP:R, in the part where the chopper is spinning and the girls are screaming, you can see a GIGANTIC ship in the back-ground, through the chopper doors. It looks like one of the things out of Independence Day. It's a pretty steady shot, too. The ship-thing is long.

Anyway, that's just what I recall.

In this trailer, at about a minute and 52 seconds, the chopper spins around and it's hard to make out, but you'll see what looks like a lumpy skyline behind the buildings. I called foul immediately, because there aren't mountains in Manhattan. It's floating, too.

oh man and then they make a giant dave letterman to fight him and the giant crispin glover ALMOST kicks him in the face :eek

HickMan Jan 2nd, 2008 05:28 AM

I think it's based off the Rampage games

executioneer Jan 2nd, 2008 05:31 AM

oh fuck that would be awesome

Fatacula Jan 2nd, 2008 08:37 AM

If at the end of the movie the monster turns into a scrawny guy in his boxers and embarrassedly shuffles his way off screen, we'll know it was a Rampage rip-off!

comhcinc Jan 2nd, 2008 02:58 PM

cloverfield.....clover........! a giant lepuchaun!

Madman914 Jan 2nd, 2008 06:49 PM

i think i will be a leprechaun and at the end a giant jennifer anniston chases him off with a stick.

Zomboid Jan 11th, 2008 11:40 AM

Apparently they had a special screening of cloverfield at michigan state university. It is supposed to be awesome and we DO see the monster really well.

Moobs Jan 12th, 2008 02:58 PM

I've seen a model of what apparently is the monster. Fits the poster (claw marks) and was apparently created by the art director of the film Peter Konig

It looks lame :( But by the looks of the trailer we probably wont even get to see it

for those who want to see what is apparently the monster:
Spoilers!

Zomboid Jan 12th, 2008 06:39 PM

That's not it. Several people who have seen it have stated that you clearly see the monster a few times and it doesn't look at all like that. This is supposedly what it looks like:

Looks mean

Moobs Jan 13th, 2008 07:52 AM

thank god, it actually looks cool. Thanks for saving the movie! :0

Nick Jan 13th, 2008 06:13 PM

I believe that like all things J.J. Abrams does, it will start out fantastic then halfway through it will crap out.

TheBigMan045 Jan 14th, 2008 03:18 AM

Also what im afraid of but lets hope it doesnt

Cedar Jan 19th, 2008 11:40 PM

Cloverfield

it was good but it didn't deserve all the hype

Jeff The Ninja Jan 19th, 2008 11:47 PM

Saw it today

Fucking Awesome.

The only thing that irked me about the movie is that they never explain what the monster is. You know of what it is capable of, and a good idea of what it can do. But the problem with it is that it feels unfinished in the end. We need a sequel or some other kind of expansion to try to figure this one out.

Spoilers!

sspadowsky Jan 20th, 2008 05:21 PM

I liked it a lot. It was fun, fast, entertaining, had really good special effects..... the actors are secondary. It was what Roland Emmerich would aspire to do if he wasn't satisfied making pieces of shit like Independence Day.

Go see it. Big movies like this don't have the same impact on DVD.
