Manly Music

Perhaps listening to too many musical soundtracks has made me too effeminate as of late, the kind of man Arnold Schwarzenegger says are free to leave now.

So I've put on some Dio to help me man up, any other macho suggestions to toughen me up? :domo

Which musical soundtracks do you listen to? I like Chicago & Rocky Horror, but sometimes Moulin Rouge too.

JakeOfAllTrades Sep 27th, 2008 08:57 AM

Sweeney Todd and The Phantom of the Opera. Keating! The Musical as well (a local Australian production by Company B, which is unapologetically an extravaganza of Aussie political history in the 90s).

Sweeney Todd is a musical that transcends gender, but Phantom and Keating are a bit wobbly in the manly stakes (there's a dance number featuring Alexander Downer in fishnet stockings, not to say anything against people who are into that, it's just that it's Alexander Downer, foreign minister being portrayed in reference to a "Guess Who's Legs" competition he was in)

I've seen the Tim Burton movie of Sweeney Todd, but I'm told it butchered the musical, would you agree?

The Australian politics one sounds interesting, but it is a bit of a niche knowledge base.

Manowar is manly music.
Gay Pimp is too by definition.

Yukiko Sep 27th, 2008 07:16 PM

X Japan is manly and sensitive. I bet you know them already tho.

JakeOfAllTrades Sep 27th, 2008 10:13 PM

@Carnivore is God: I agree, Manowar is so manly, even with "Man" in the title of their band. "Warriors of the World" and "Brothers of Metal" was the soundtrack to my growing up with metalhead nerds.

@Yukiko: I've never actually heard X Japan, but it seems like they have a good combo. Only J-Pop I've ever heard was The World Ends With You soundtrack.

real men listen to linda ronstadt

Richter Crucio Sep 28th, 2008 08:14 AM

The "Escape From L.A." soundtrack was a mighty manly album.

I never really saw the musical, but apparently it goes either way. I've seen people who really like it compared to the musical or really hate it. I personally was just impressed by how well Depp, Carter, Rickman, Spall, and Cohen all sang. Plus it's just fun to say that Perelli was played by Borat. :)

stoffhimel Oct 5th, 2008 03:03 PM

mega driver, lordi, atreyu, drangon force, and megadeath. that should help.

Shyandquietguy Oct 5th, 2008 05:05 PM

Mega Deth I can sort of back with, the other two I've never heard. Isn't Dragon Force too much of a "fantasy speed metal" to be considered manly? As well as Atreyu and their "Life is lost" sense coming from their album names?

http://froogle.google.com/base_image...gqZjRVgSJJ.jpg

Seriously, that is MANLY!!!

I'm proposing Rick Astley here, not the best, but sure hell beats fucking Atreyu in manlyness. Bleeding Mascara can lick my ass.

On that note, I'd like to propose my underdog being Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young Deja Vu album.

"Let it Ride" Bachman Turner Overdrive. Listen to that.

"Green Berets" whoever did that song. Motherfuckers.

"They kicked me out of church" Wesley Willis
