2012 SECRET SANTA EVENT PARTICIPANTS: SHARE YOUR INTERESTS!!!

So, one thing I hear from some of the Secret Santa participants every year we do this is that they don't really know the person they're buying gifts for all that well. As a result, some of you aren't sure what to buy the person you're assigned to in the Secret Santa event.

While I tend to not even think about what my recipient is interested in and simply try to get them something they wouldn't normally buy for themselves to create a more fun / surprising Secret Santa experience, I understand that some of you may not want to do it that way and simply want to give them something you know they'd like. With that in mind, I'm opening up this thread for all participants to post their interests in. Just share some basic details about yourself (ie: what kind of movies you like, your hobbies, etc.) if you want your Secret Santa gift giver to know a little more about yourself.

Note: Just because you post some info about yourself in this thread, it does NOT mean your Secret Santa needs to take these factors into consideration when they buy your gifts. It's totally up to them whether to buy you something related to your interests or to go with something more surprising. Again, this is totally optional for both the buyer and the receiver to participate in.

I like video games random knick knacks, bad horror movies, trashy horror stories, oh and comics! Personally I like the surprise aspect of this. My shirt size is Medium, if that's applicable

blood_panther Nov 21st, 2012 11:17 PM

stevetothepast Nov 22nd, 2012 04:47 AM

I like surprises too, but I'll help out my Secret Santa if he/she needs it:

1) These days, I have more CDs, DVDs, and books than I have time to enjoy, so please none of those.
2) I don't need any posters / art as I have limited wall space and am really picky about what I hang on them.
3) Retro stuff is always fun for me :picklehat

I want this

The_Punk_Hippie Nov 23rd, 2012 10:53 PM

I'm just C&Ping my last years list
Video games - Katamari, Suikoden, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Day Of The Tentacle, Azure Dreams, Alex Kidd In Miracle World, blah blah blah (I don't need any video games, but I like weird video game paraphernalia)
Weird japanese things (like Darumas & weird cute things like Domo)
Candy that I can't get in Ontario (especially weird Asian candy!)
Bling/Buttons/Pins
Movies: Beetlejuice, Rocky Horror Picture Show (again, don't need the movies, but stuff is neat)
Tea (I have boring flavours coming out the wazoo, so weird flavours are definitely preferred)
Fun touques

also, believe it or not, I'm female - not sure if that fact will be useful, but I figured I should throw it out there :D
& in case it's needed - shirt size is large, but I usually go for XL because I like the room (hoodies are ALWAYS XL)

I like bizarre candy, soda, movies, toys, Halloween, and being surprised.
Also, read through some of the previous SS events if you're straining for some good ideas. :xmas3

Retro arts, books, games, movies. Basically anything you think would pop up on sites like this. Just don't get me anything music related, please. I have more than enough CDs and mp3s to last me a life time.

Friends, Romans, Countrymen! Lend me your beers and listen!

I'm a pretty easy guy to find a gift for. I have an insatiable want for graphic novels and collected editions of comics - THE WEIRDER AND MORE OFFBEAT THE BETTER! I scored a great copy of 'The Last Christmas' in the 2011 I-Mockery Secret Santa, so let's keep the trend going! I'm also an avid Transformers collector, so anything new or used (but complete and in good shape) will always work. Believe it or not, I also am a proud Scotsman, so anything from Scotland will always bring great joy - authentic Scottish music, historical novels, Highlander memorabilia (yep, the movie) - just use your imagination! Finally, I like Legos - the little minifigure blind packs are great and pretty cheap, as are any of the recent Monster Fighters or Star Wars sets. BAM!

And to make it even easier, here's my Amazon Wish List: http://amzn.com/w/3UD99133Q098Q

Protoclown Nov 25th, 2012 12:19 PM

I'm into comics (and I've been pretty out of the loop on the Marvel and DC stuff going on in the last couple years), video games, cartoons from the 80s, toys relating to all of these things, bizarre or funny toys, etc. I have an Amazon wishlist, which I don't expect you to use, necessarily, but it could inspire some more ideas.

EDIT: Added link to my Amazon wishlist: http://www.amazon.com/registry/wishl...ng=UTF8&page=1

Here is a haphazard and incomplete list of things I tend to enjoy:

all things Futurama
rainbows (though green is my favorite color)
Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite movie (all stop-motion animation intrigues me)
toys - especially cute figurines
puzzles of any kind
DINOSAURS

I usually take a Men's Large for t-shirts.
I also solemnly swear I am an adult and not actually a five-year-old. Well, physically and legally, anyway.

Edited to add:
BATMAN
unicorns
Iron Man
candy

Ex Leper Nov 25th, 2012 07:50 PM

We all like this stuff.

Protoclown Nov 26th, 2012 01:05 AM

Exactly! This is what I told her. :P

Also, I edited my interests posts to include a link to my Amazon wishlist.

euphorixlost Nov 26th, 2012 09:46 AM

Well, I originally forgot to include unicorns and candy...

Mockery Nov 26th, 2012 07:51 PM

Oh, I have an Amazon wish list too, but it has nothing other than eBay gift cards, and for the purposes of photographing this Secret Santa event, I'd suggest you go with something a little more adventurous :P

ChrisGlass Nov 26th, 2012 08:07 PM

Gift cards are just terrible in general.
It reduces the value of money and often forces you places you don't want to go.

The last gifts my father gave me was $50 to the Elephant Bar and $50 to Stater Bros. Neither of those were within 30 miles of my apartment. (I'm guessing they were promo gifts from something else)

Mockery Nov 27th, 2012 12:17 AM

Yeah, what's really scary is the amount of money companies make on gift cards that are never even used. There was some statistic about how there were over 40 billion dollars in unused gift cards floating around out there. o.O So yeah, even if I don't want a gift card, I'll use it... out of spite.

snoogans Nov 27th, 2012 02:48 AM

I wasn't going to do the suggestions things cus I honestly don't mind what I get, and if you have ideas, go for it! I will enjoy whatever you send.
But then I thought what if my person is real concerned about it, or was really stumped about what to get me, so I thought I better make a short list. I love all types of movies as well as comics, toys and I also like American junk food that I can't buy here. there's a pretty basic reason why I like this site so much.
