Canadian Television

I've only noticed this happening recently. Is it common to go to a commercial in the middle of a show or sports game during the action?

A few of the hockey games I've watched over the past few weeks on cbc have gone into commercial in the middle of play. Like during a breakaway it cut right into a commercial about detergent. Then followed by 3 more commercials. By the time they were done 3-4 minutes ran out in the game. Possibly a goal.

What's up with that?

So nothing, you guys just like to fuck with goal scoring chances. What fucking sacrilege.

kahljorn Jan 15th, 2012 01:02 AM

its cause they are communist

Zomboid Jan 17th, 2012 11:52 PM

I don't even know what you're talking about.

kahljorn Jan 18th, 2012 12:59 AM

CBC and TSN will fuck up pretty bad sometimes, but I've never seen anything that terrible. I've seen them not come back from a commercial break in time, but never cut to a commercial before the play has stopped. Usually the stoppages in hockey are timed around a 30 second window for showing a couple ads.

It's nothing compared to watching hockey on NBC where the camera guy doesn't even know how to follow the puck, though.

I just realized that if you're not watching a direct feed from CBC (like on satellite or something), your local cable company might be sticking ads overtop the feed instead. It's weird sometimes because you'll be watching something like the Super Bowl and suddenly there's an ad for some local company and you're like WTF?

I used to see this all the time until I switched to HD cable, and now it happens a lot less.

Zomboid Jan 19th, 2012 10:18 AM

Yeah, I figured it had to be something like that. Since you're likely not getting the channels the same way we are (with crude antennas fashioned from Moose bones), your experience will be different.

I need to get some hd ready moose bones

You just reminded me of the days when FOX showed a blue streak behind the puck's path (and a red one for extra hard hits!)

America is retarded too

Zhukov Jan 20th, 2012 11:23 PM

In other news, they're showing NFL games here now. How can you guys watch that boring tripe? It's awful.

kahljorn Jan 21st, 2012 04:57 AM

some people in america cook and eat tripe

AChimp Jan 21st, 2012 09:23 AM

NFL holds us over until the amazing CFL season resumes. In between we have NHL playoffs.

kahljorn Jan 21st, 2012 03:56 PM

I'm kind of surprised you dont like football though zhukov. its kind of like watching a battle and they use similar tactics id use in a total war game :O :O :O :O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O

i guess it is boring as hell though

Esuohlim Jan 21st, 2012 05:13 PM

America's favorite sports involve a lot downtime where not-playing happens.

Baseball truly is a snooze, but I can't really tell you what makes football interesting since I should logically find it just as boring as baseball. Only college football though, fuck the NFL.

Zhukov Jan 21st, 2012 07:43 PM

I don't want to start something by saying that rugby is better, but it is. American football would be great if they just didn't stop every three seconds and have a break. I think that's the only thing holding it back.

Zomboid Jan 21st, 2012 09:59 PM

I like playing football, but, like any sport, I can't stand watching it on TV. I fucking despise baseball, though. I don't even give a shit about hockey, really.

AChimp Jan 23rd, 2012 12:11 AM

The best part about watching football is recording it on your PVR and then fast-forwarding through all the breaks :)

The CBC has sucked shit virtually my entire lifetime so that's not a surprise.

The CBC doesn't suck at Olympic coverage. Rogers is now responsible for the bloated NHL coverage.
