Exquisite Corpse 01 - DONE!!

okay, this is an idea i had while in the shower today.

let's say we designate a size for an image an people sign up and an order is formed via first come first serve.

so let's say i'm the first person (duh). i create an image at the designated size, and i send maybe like the last 50 pixels high of the image to the next person on the list. they create an image and send the last 50 pixels high or wide (depending on orientation) of the image to the next person on the list etc etc etc.

all images will be sent to me to compile into a larger image to be posted at the end.

it will be landscape (horizontal) orientation (this does not mean the images need to be landscapes though!)

all images will be 600 pixels tall, varying in width from 200px to a maximum of 1500px.

the 50 width by 600 height images that are used to hint the artists will be posted in this thread.
artists will send me their contributions and i will update the page with said hint images. also, participants will be PMed when their hint is posted just to make sure that they know it's their turn.

the project has started! but people can join until it comes down to the last person. please feel free to do so.

EDIT:

IT'S DONE, NOW DISCUSS WHAT TO DO FOR THE NEXT ONE

EDIT: if you guys don't know what an exquisite corpse is, it's when a group of artists contribute to a continues drawing with only a hint of what the last artist did. or just go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_corpse

So, like, you draw/make one thing, then the next person adds to it etc. and it keeps going and then you see how far it's progressed or something?

bigtimecow Jan 9th, 2008 01:03 PM

yes. but you don't see it until the end and no one fully sees what the previous person has done. that wikipedia link has some nice examples.

arg_zombies Jan 9th, 2008 01:04 PM

Sounds cool - I'll join it whenever it comes to life or whatever :love

bigtimecow Jan 9th, 2008 01:10 PM

alright sweet. i'm going to start editing the first post to start a potential thread. well, i shouldn't say potential. either way it's going to happen, and at this point it's between just me and you. :(

any suggestions for the other elements?

arg_zombies Jan 9th, 2008 01:14 PM

To be honest I'm not too sure yet, but I shall surely ponder it

Tadao Jan 9th, 2008 02:24 PM

I can give it a try. If I fail I can pass on the 50 pixels to the next. If that's ok with you. That way people can at least give it a go and not feel like they are fucking up a project.

I saw Fark do a train that went from left to right. That was rad.

What would be a good scroll down theme? A very tall monster? BTC can draw the head and feet?

Tadao Jan 9th, 2008 02:49 PM

Changed my mind, I think left to right landscape would be better. Oh and what about a time limit. The longer a person has to work on it, the better it will be. And is color allowed?

bigtimecow Jan 9th, 2008 03:00 PM

i think color isn't necessary, but definitely allowed. i'd love to combine as many art styles as possible.

i'd almost rather do a large monster, but it would be kind of hard to figure out like, when the hands and feet start / end etc. but the landscape would probably be better.

a time limit / due date is probably a good idea. maybe no more than a week or something. but then again, if someone finishes early, does the next person's time limit start then? if people would be dedicated enough to do this, that would be awesome.

anyways, i'll add you to the list.

Misdemonar Jan 9th, 2008 05:03 PM

I will do this

MLE Jan 9th, 2008 08:40 PM

I think landscape orientation would work very well, but i have some great ideas for portrait orientation. I think that the next artist should be able to edit and make your artwork blend into the last one for those 50 pixels! <3 I love it. I am totally in.

Nick Jan 9th, 2008 09:11 PM

Sounds like fun.

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 12:01 AM

so are you in nick?

and :love glad to get approval!

MLE, that would probably be optional. otherwise some things might have straight lines seperating all of them between like b&w and color, so i would say that that is optional if necessary.

alright, so i think landscape orientation is now a definite.

now the next question, size? i'm thinking something like 600 pixels tall... maybe 800 pixels wide (including the 50 pixels that gets shown to the next person).

also, just so the thing doesn't get boring while it's going on, the 50x600 or whatever size hint sections will be posted on here so people can be all curious and shit.

!!!!! :love

Tadao Jan 10th, 2008 01:49 AM

Width shouldn't be an issue. they can probably vary in width.

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 02:35 AM

i suppose the width could vary, but let's set a limit. like... no more than 1500 pixels or something.

MLE Jan 10th, 2008 03:32 AM

I think the width should be within a range, like between 600 and 1200 px wide, while being 600 px tall for each section, including your last 50 px wide.

PS - I can't wait to get a version of this printed after it's done <3

MLE Jan 10th, 2008 03:35 AM

for the first one, I think we should go around once. Maybe next time, we can go in a full circle, and have the last one connect to the first :trippy

arg_zombies Jan 10th, 2008 08:10 AM

Or like, someones draws a table like on the wikipedia one and then sends one section of the table to each person and they add whatever they want into it :lol

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 11:53 AM

lol

alright, the max size is going to be 1500 px!

Nick Jan 10th, 2008 10:40 PM

This would be fun to do if I actually understood what we're doing. Are we just drawing a random landscape picture, and then putting them together, or are we taking turns adding on to one image?

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 11:47 PM

taking turns adding "length" to one image. let me go step by step for instance:

so i draw a horizontal image (doesn't matter the content) but i make the lines and whatever extend off the right-edge of the page. then, the last 50 pixels wide of the pictures gets sent to arg_zombies and he starts his image with those 50 pixels so the lines / colors can connect. then he does the same for Tadao.

ya dig?

arg_zombies Jan 11th, 2008 06:28 AM

Hmmm we probably wanna keep inmind, if this is landscpae, that it could get pretty panoramic, so maybe every 2, we go down :lol

bigtimecow Jan 11th, 2008 10:49 AM

so the entire piece ends up like a zig zag? :( not sure if i understand

arg_zombies Jan 11th, 2008 10:53 AM

:lol don't worry about it

I meant that, if everyone keeps adding on, won't the picture eventually too big? Or will that be regulated, like how many people can enter at a time :|

arg_zombies Jan 11th, 2008 10:58 AM

What I said up there was,
If it starts to get too big, we could then link it down, so the picture kind of goes under itself, like so:
