1986 Jem Doll Package Art

In the 80s, there was a cartoon about a singer named Jem. In real life her name was Jerrica, and she could transform into Jem using her special holographic earrings. I had the dolls, which had streaked pink hair, which you were supposed to hide under a hat to make her Jerrica, the blonde. These pictures are from the artwork on the package, showing what the doll clothes inside looked like.

"Gettin' Down To Business" (named for a Jem song)

"Like A Dream" (also a Jem song title)

"Outta My Way" (Misfits song title)

"Makin Mischief" (Misfits song title)

"Just Misbehavin'"

He didn't have a doll. But I'm sure I will be able to find stills from the cartoon for you, if you like.

My sisters had those. I think they ended up getting their heads shaved.

Unless my memory cheats that was one of the better cartoons out there for girls back in the '80s. Of course, I'll be damned if I'll listen to the music now.

I downloaded the opening sequence to Jem off of Kazaa, and it was every bit as good as I remembered. The animation for it was amazing considering the technology of the era. The body movement was so good I'd swear that they had body-scanned a live dancer or something. They even made her hair bounce a little as she moved. Anyone who is interested in this cartoon or just animation in general HAS to download it.

Hah! When I switched rooms with my sister once, I had to live with Jem wallpaper for a while. I couldn't bring friends over until it got changed.

Oh my God, I loved Jem in kindergarten and first grade. I remember buying a Jem doll in Florida in 1988 and getting upset that a certain contest enclosed in the doll expired on April 30, 1987. :lol :(
