I guess e-mule is another P2P program so hashing is used to verify large chunks of data.
The data is split into small pieces which are individually hashed then hashed together until one root hash is formed. All of your share will need to be hashed to begin with but once it is done only new files need to be hashed.
One of the good things about hashing the data is that when looking for alternate sources for a download it does not need to look at the file name and just the hash of the file, as indentical files will have an identical hash, this also means the possiblility of downloading a corrupt file form a source is reduced.

AChimp Oct 27th, 2004 08:53 AM

Long post short, hashing makes it so that the file you're downloading is the right file and not some crap. :P

eMule also sucks donkey balls. I hardly use it anymore; everyone sets their upload queue to 2 people. >:

Found some flowers (not sure what to do with them except beat people with em) and a classic car next to a car wash. It had pimping missions. After finishing em now hookers pay you to have sex with them. :lol I also jazzed up my low-rider at the car shop. New hydraulics, wheels, exhaust, paint job (one I picked looks like the Diablo Stallion in GTA3), new interior and chrome siding. Pretty cool stuff. There should be other car shops later on but this one only lets you bring in low-riders. I swam accross to the other city and the cops got pissed cause I wasn't supposed to leave and gave me a 4 star rating just for getting to the other side. Cool that you can get over there still but like in the others, they want you to work on one city at a time to start out.

I'm at 10.70% complete only but have been exploring like hell. This game is so massive.

I wonder what the requirements are for the PC version. Im afraid that my machine isnt good enough to run this game with a decent framerate.
God, why did I have to sell my PS2? :(

i heard that you can get girlfriends and you will have to give them things like the flowers.

timrpgland Oct 27th, 2004 05:25 PM

Yeah I heard that too and posted that in the lists of features in this thread the other day. Right now I can't do anything with them except attack people with em though. It's actually quite a powerful melee weapon.

Going underwater is cool too and you gain lung capacity the more you do it. Hidden stuff under the water too... man way too much to explore!

Ninjavenom Oct 27th, 2004 05:33 PM

Yeah, i tried the same swimming thing. I covered some ground, but ran into a little cookout that was FULL of cops. There was like fifty of them. Needless to say, i got rap-ed.

Just opened up San Fierro for "safe" exploration now.

Got girlfriend Denise at 30% progress right now.

roughly 13% now :)

San Fierro is crazy. Huge mountain, awesome landscape and city life up North.

This game is pretty solid. I'm stuck on the OG Loc mission, where you gotta chase Freddie down on a bike. I can't do it for some reason.

I'M GANG-STA

It is pretty hard. I JUST tried it, and killed Freddie, but I couldnt OG Loc...He was underneath the freeway I was on. I jumped down, died, started bawling like a little girl, and posted on the I-Mockery Boards, apparently where dreams come true.

Get a submachine gun, and just shoot the living hell out of him, eventually he'll fall off, make a stupid groaning noise, and OG Loc will speak in that whiny black voice of his. Rest, I dont know about.

Mad Melvin Oct 29th, 2004 06:44 AM

What kind of ragdoll physics are there in this game? Or is there any?

ArrowX Oct 29th, 2004 10:06 AM

Were all the rumors true!? Is there more than one actual city with interstate highway in between!?

timrpgland Oct 29th, 2004 10:55 AM

At about 21% now. Pretty interesting spoiler: Catalina from GTA3 gives you some missions in this game and during the "farewell, my love" missions she leaves you from the main dude from GTA3 and they head to liberty city.

timrpgland Oct 29th, 2004 10:59 AM

edit post hasn't been workin eh? well accidentally made it visible. don't read past spoiler if you don't want to be.

I'm with the_dudefather. I was thinking about buying this game and a PStwo.
