Old pc games.

Hello,
Does anyone know how I can play old computer games on my pc. I have games like police quest and kings quest and secret of monkey island that I would like to play. If there were some way I could download a program that would make these games work on my computer then that would be great.
Thanks.

Did you purchase those games?

Cause if not I'm going to report you :eek

What OS do you have? Windows XP?

Do the games not start at all, run too fast, have screwed up colors?

There's certain programs that can help play certain games better, but we'll need some more info on what problems you're facing.

I have windows me.

Ok when I try to play kings quest 6 the game says, "Cannot utilize your audio hardware" or something similar to that. but other than that it works pretty good. do you think you can help me get sound?

ps thanks for helping me this is really cool of you!

i only ever played 2 old games. kings quest 5 and the best old game EVER! fury 3. fury 3 is the best, t came out in 1995 and it gave u hours of addictive, simple yet complicated and they actually made a sequel but it sucked ass.da sequel was called hellbender and it basically was annoying.

I don't think there's much you can do to get sound in those old games if it doesn't happen automatically. If you have a version of Windows where you can still close Windows to go into DOS, maybe.

I think there might be some DOS emulators out there that would allow you to run them, otherwise, like FS said... you'll have to install an older version of Windows such as Windows 98 to get 'em running properly.

Your sound card might also be the problem. it might not have the dos emulation thing. also try I would assume u have run the sound setup(most old dos games had them)

Ye olde dos sound was based on hardware interrupts(hence IRQ, DMA setups and the like), whereas Windows XP go through DirectSound. You stand a pretty minimal chance of fixing that.

I suggest you partition your hard drive with good ol' DOS and play those games as they should be played.

Try scummvm, but it'll only work for monkey island.
