AV Sender/Slingbox?

I have a cable TV box in the living room and a Media Centre in the bedroom. What I want is to be able to watch cable TV in the bedroom but standard AV senders seem kind of hacky. I've been looking into the Slingbox which should in theory allow me to send the TV signal directly to the Media Centre but I'm not sure how well it'd work as I really want to be able to control the cable box with my standard Media Centre remote, not some on-screen bollocks.

So does anyone have experience with this kind of thing? Better yet has anyone ever used Slingbox with a Media Centre as the reciever?

Any other suggestions for how I could achive this are welcome too.

Thanks.

Okay I've done a lot more research on this and apparently it is possible to control SlingPlayer with a MC remote using software such as IR Server Suite to translate IR signals to key presses.

On the subject of AV senders 5.8Ghz senders exist which shouldn't interfere with or be interfered with by Wireless/Phones/Microwaves/etc.

Not sure which I'll go for. Prob a standard AV sender due to the higher cost of Slingboxes.
