only you can save the world

firstly, please rog, dont move this to the politics forum- its far too important for that.

I haven't been around here for a while, mostly due to the sheer volume of work involved in being a teacher.

ok, settle in for a heart felt plea-
there are a lot of you on this board who I am glad to call friends. you have provided me with proof that young americans are smart, literary and forward thinking. Quite the opposite of the stereotype, we in Britain generally hold of Americans.
you are supposed to be dumb (stereotype smashed by the Appportioner- a man of staggering intellect) you are supposed to be politically unaware (stand up Kevin and Max) you are supposed to be uncaring (helloooo Carnivore, take a bow Glowbelly) you are supposed to be ignorant of other countries (the founder of this site knows more about Scotland than I do and my father is Scottish) and as for your military, well 'jocks with guns and bloodlust' is a phrase that springs to mind, and yet, the likes of McClain exist .

So where is all the arse kissing leading?
you guessed it.
the election.

you may not think your vote counts, it may seem that there is no point- hell I didnt vote in my last local election. The point is that this is not a local election. this is not even an American election. your vote against Bush will be felt all round the world.

the polls are neck and neck, you really can make a difference here.

apologies if this comes on a bit strong but quite frankly I am shit scared of four more years of the Bush administration deciding the fate of MY country.

right now i am envious of your position, if I was in the states right now I would be doing everything I could to get this message across.

be motivated and be heard.
love

Yes. I say let them vote Bush if they want to. They'll destroy themselves. Their economy will collapse. Then, Belgium will rise up from amidst the european mud and inherit the earth.

I can't really back what I'm gonna say up, but it seems Kerry and Bush are only different on superficialities, and that the geopolitically agressive US stance will not change if the democrats come in office. After all, Clinton bombed the fuck out of Serbia too. I don't mean to discourage this political awareness thing, but maybe you need to look more towards other parties than the big two.

Protoclown Oct 31st, 2004 03:42 PM

Gemma! Good to hear from you! You'll be glad to know that I'm voting for John Kerry on Tuesday.

MLE Oct 31st, 2004 05:03 PM

WHY?!?!

EisigerBiskuit Oct 31st, 2004 06:35 PM

Why not?

McMock Oct 31st, 2004 10:08 PM

In no european country would a fucker like Bush get elected. In the USA, it looks like he'll be elected TWICE. Even AFTER HE ILLUSTRATED IN THE LAST YEARS WITH PERFECTLY CLARITY TO EVERYBODY WITH HALF A BRAIN THAT HE IS A COMPLETE DUMBFUCK!

And he gets elected by people who fear a terrorist might live next door to them. By people who believe God truly does bless America. By people who believe so hard in patriotism because it really makes their tiny fucking brains feel so good to belong to the greatest thing ever. It gives them a sense of self-worth, and they want it, they believe it... damn farmers. These are all people who, if natural selection even remotely still existed, would have been eaten by a bear long ago. Not a shred of sense in their minds. And there are so MANY of them! It's like a bad zombie movie, dammit.

I guess it's what to be expected in a country where something like Disneyland doesn't get ridiculed. Where grown men eat breakfast that comes with milk, in a box with a fuzzy cartoon animal on it. You get used to it.

Children, dammit. The worlds fate lies in the hands of children! That is frustrating.

And yet so many people are dying to live here......imagine that!

McMock Oct 31st, 2004 10:56 PM

And you do not think this is because they are greedy and possibly starving, but rather because they admire your civilised ways?

Drowning people are bad judges of life-support buoys.

Carnivore Nov 1st, 2004 02:41 PM

Although I don't really need to vote because Massachusetts will definitely be sending its 12 electoral votes Kerry's way (it is his home state, after all), I and m'lady will just to add to the margin of victory. I just hope the people in the swing states get their asses to the polls! You people know who you are!

And I only care when the situation warrants caring, Gem.

James Nov 1st, 2004 03:19 PM

My vote doesn't count. I don't want my vote to count. I have no reason to show any support for a candidate who I don't know shit about, just because people are telling me that Bush is stupid.

I'm not educated enough to really know if my vote is one I want to give to Bush, Kerry, etc. And I refuse to be another retard who votes without knowing what the fuck we're doing.

And I refuse to GET educated. I'm happy in my decision to believe that the information available to me regarding what each candidate brings to the table is not what will effect my life, nor will it be enough to enlighten me as to how it will affect the country for better or for worse. All I know is that with the Bushes, we've found ourselves in high-profile wars, which could or could not be coincidence. By that alone, I'd consider Kerry. But do I KNOW anything about Kerry? No. So why should I vote for him just because I associate the other candidate with war?

I just don't care. I vote for apathy. I've lived my life just fine regardless of who was in office. Bush, Clinton, Bush, whoever.

Besides, we know Kerry's going to win, so why bother? It'd just be a "Me too!" formality, where I can try and play with the rest of the group. And if I voted for Bush, it'd be a throwaway vote, or if my vote REALLY does matter, then we'd have a president who most people don't want in the first place.

I vote for a dictatorship, run by Dustin Diamond.

sadie Nov 1st, 2004 03:21 PM

i found this interesting.

That actually sounds like the best option so far.

I'm from Massachusetts to. For once I wish I lived in a swing state. But I'll add to Kerry's margin. While I think he's run a poor campaign, that says nothing of what I think he'd be like as President. I watched his work on unearthing ties between the Contras and drugrunners, BCI and our relations with Vietnam. He's a good man.

I'm 42 years old. I've been aware of every election since Nixon Vs. McGovern. I've voted in every election since Carter Vs. Reagan. I didn't like Clinton, and I hated Reagan and Bush senior. This is way, way, wat different. I never felt the soul of the United states was at stake before, and I never thought any of the previous presidents I disliked could do truly long term damage to the experiemnt that is the United States. I didn't like them as people, I didn't like their policies, etc. but I never feared them.

I think W's faith is similar to the Talibans, and the difference in degree is totally a factor of what's currently culturally acceptable here. I think he thinks the war on Terror is a crusade. I think he thinks God talks to him, or speaks through him. I thought all this before 9/11 and the so called 'war' on terror. W had won the electoral college (if that) but not the popular vote. One would have expected a unity government with several cabinet offices given to Democrats, especially coming from someone who ran as 'a uniter and not a divider'. Instead, he functioned as if he'd won a landslide. 9/11 only gave W the opportunity to believe he was divinely destined to rule more firmly. I tremble t the thought of the level of Hubris for years unfettered by the eventuality of another election might inpsire.

And then there's the supreme court.

HickMan Nov 1st, 2004 04:43 PM

I am too young to vote yet :(. But belive this, I want that jerkbutt, gung ho, shoot first ask questions later, I'll just wait at my ranch and let this blow off, guy out of office as much as the next Iraqi, but I have ZERO POWER ;(

D-Mac3 Nov 1st, 2004 05:02 PM

what is so wrong with Bush Ok so he may be an idiot but if americans want him in office we can have him in office. But Kerry on the other hand knows that once there is a war there is no way to have a "peacefull" war they're both stupid in their own ways. For all I care people that can vote in america VOTE NADER :conspiracy
