Negative. Everyone I know in NY who has bought one has had the three rings of death including me.

2 more days

As stoked as I am to get my collector's edition with all of the extra stuff, I'm almost positive that it won't arrive until early November. Fuck.

Big McLargehuge Oct 26th, 2008 10:56 PM

i don't have an xbox 360 and i doubt my computer would run it. Everything on it is good enough 'cept my gpu :(

VaporTrailx1 Oct 28th, 2008 11:12 PM

Shit, this game is way harder than Fallout 2. What's the point of the doctor skill if you can't heal yourself? I might have to buy the walkthrough for this cause I don't seem to be able to make it anywhere without running out of firepower or health... At least I got a rocket launcher, should be able to kick some ass now.

Guitar Woman Oct 28th, 2008 11:32 PM

I always thought the Doctor skill was for just patching up big stuff like broken legs or eye injuries, and you'd need normal first aid to just heal yourself.

I never used it so I could be wrong, but since Fallout is generally really user unfriendly I'd expect something like that. Also, there'd really be no reason to pick the first aid skill if Doctor didn't have some kind of catch, and I was thinking that's probably it.

Zomboid Oct 29th, 2008 12:46 AM

Doctor was for mending broken bones, etc. First aid was for small injuries. How was Fallout not user friendly?

Jeff The Ninja Oct 29th, 2008 01:36 AM

The best thing about this game are the super mutants.

"SUPRISE!" *punch*

Guitar Woman Oct 29th, 2008 01:38 AM

It's generally mean to people who are just playing it for the first time, especially compared to other WRPGs I've played

Guitar Woman Oct 29th, 2008 02:05 AM

Or mabye I just suck horribly at RPGs, which is a lot more likely

VaporTrailx1 Oct 29th, 2008 10:44 AM

I wasn't too good at Oblivion either. I don't think I've played an RPG made in the past 8 years other than that and Mass Effect. I'm pretty good at Mass Effect Though.

Zomboid Oct 29th, 2008 02:00 PM

Default difficulty, yeah. On hard and insane mode it gets a bit tougher though. The one fight that kept pissing me off was the one against benezia and all of those fucking asaris.

VaporTrailx1 Oct 30th, 2008 09:07 PM

I'm gettin along good now except for running out of ammo. I need missiles for those damn super mutants.

Chojin Oct 31st, 2008 12:00 AM

so far i'm really feeling a fallout vibe from the game, but almost all of the animations are absolutely terrible. Also, when you pay the whore to sleep with you, that's literally what she does - she goes upstairs and falls asleep on your bed. If you try to talk to her, she gets up and is like 'o helo thar' and then walks back out of the room. Uh..

also, when bethesda said they weren't remaking oblivion? the game kinda plays like an oblivion mod.

Despite all that, liking it so far, but i've only just moved on from megaton.

Zomboid Oct 31st, 2008 12:32 AM

Man, that whore thing sounds exactly like something that would happen in oblivion. So much in that game is just broken and doesn't work the way they intended it to. It's a shame to hear that there's even a bit of that in fallout 3. I found it hilarious but really annoying at the same time, how in oblivion, there were times where an NPC would be attacked by an enemy or wandering somewhere they shouldn't be, and if you talked to them, they'd just have that stupid smile and say something like "BY THE NINE, YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'D BE COMFORTABLE IN HEAVY ARMOR!"

Guitar Woman Oct 31st, 2008 01:34 AM

My favorite Oblivion moments include being arrested by a door, shooting an arrow at a guard from several feet away where he couldn't have not seen me and having him go GASP! WHAT'S GOING ON, and pretty much any conversation between two NPCs.

"That's a subject I'd rather not talk about."

"SNIFF"

Also I'm buying this on Saturday

Here's hoping it runs!

Chojin Oct 31st, 2008 04:46 AM

Just got back from playing this a lot more, and my opinion has really improved! Probably because I haven't talked to many friendly NPCs at all.

I use the VATS system all the time, and it's super satisfying. The brief fight where you help out the brotherhood of steel was cool as shit, too, and is really making me look forward to getting some cronies. The stealth system also reminds me a lot of MGS - where you can actually hide again after being spotted, or pop off several shots from cover if your target will have difficulty spotting you even after you fire.

Basically, melee combat and NPC interaction is 99% the same as oblivion, everything else is pretty new and great. Unfortunately, the first 2 hours of the game are ALL melee combat and NPC interaction, and it made me throw up a little in my mouth.

GREETINGS OF AKATOSH! YOU HAVE THE LOOK OF SOMEONE WHO COMES FROM A VAULT!

Schimid Oct 31st, 2008 10:23 AM

Been playing this a lot. A fucking lot. I haven't been this into a game in a long, long time. I always play my first game of Fallout to be as close to me as possible (picking the answers i would in real life, honing my skills accordingly, etc.), and my second game is always about being a huge cock.

Up to level 15 now, wait until you guys meet Dr. Braun. There's a section with him that's really cool.

The beginning was really slow for me too and I basically hate ever having to escort/follow/lead anyone anywhere. The NPC's are dumb as dirt.

One person was leading me to a memorial and upon missing the bridge decided it'd be better to ford the river himself, swimming headlong into the structural foundation of said bridge. I waited for about forty-five seconds for him to steady himself, slowly accumulating radiation. Upon speaking to him, he had said he heard about me and I was one of the good guys! Well, thanks! It was only after I fast-traveled to our destination, then back to one close to him, then talk to him again, did I even have the option of telling him I'd meet him there. He mournfully sent me off and I fast-traveled back to the memorial, realized he wasn't there, and decided to make a sandwich with the game running. By the time I got back, he was there. How he escaped the bog, I'll never know.

There've been some other great glitches, like when a woman was screaming fervently into an intercom and thought it best appropriate to display her rage by spinning about in a complete circle before resuming her "I'M ANGRY AT YOU, INTERCOM" animation.

EDIT - Oh yeah, and my house is awesome.

There's a spoiler tag you know :V

Chojin Oct 31st, 2008 02:03 PM

I had a great oblivion moment in the game today, where on the boat, I met this woman, her heartthrob, and her heartthrob's pastor. She says that he doesn't know she exists. I told her to forget about him, I told him to forget about her, and then I told the pastor that I saw them fucking under the stairs. Mortified, he walks over to the guy like 2 feet away and tells him that he's fired from the clergy. The guy is just staring serenely at him the whole time.

I talk to him as soon as the conversation is over and he says 'Well I guess that wraps it up for the clergy! But there's good news! I asked my lady to marry me and she said yes!'

You... you did, huh?

Guitar Woman Oct 31st, 2008 10:13 PM

So I played this a little bit tonight and have since changed my mind about owning it

It's really funny both on purpose and by accident, but it's not very endearing. Character models reek of Oblivion badness and creepy, robot like animation, and the acting is hilarious. The AI is also generally retarded, always letting me get within shotgun headspaltter distance before they start doing anything. On the bright side the targeting system is fucking cool, the world is huge, and it's very pretty.

Way better than Oblivion, not as good as Stalker.

Also, jesus, every enemy in this game is made out of titanium and MAGIC. I've run up to raider thugs point blank and put millions and billions of minigun rounds into their skulls, and they've come out of it with half health.

Zomboid Oct 31st, 2008 10:22 PM

Stalker's not even that good, so I highly doubt that it can't reach those STAGGERING HEIGHTS.

VaporTrailx1 Oct 31st, 2008 10:53 PM

I always wonder how those raiders are so damn good at sniping me with a pistol.
