FORUM EVENT: "I-MOCKERY'S 2014 SECRET SANTA EVENT!"

YO HO HO HO! WELCOME TO...

OFFICIAL SIGN UP THREAD

Christmas is approaching once again and that means one important thing: staying far the hell away from the apocalyptic scenarios at any store that dares to hold a Black Friday sale this month. Aside from that, it's also time for I-Mockery's annual Christmas Secret Santa event! Every year, registered users from the forum community come together to share in the holiday commercialism by buying and sending each other gifts that range from hilarious to just plain awesome. It's tradition, so whether you're a new member or an old one, you should absolutely join in the fun, so be sure to reply to this thread. Dextire is being kind enough to run the event this year, so be sure to read the important rules he'll soon be posting below BEFORE you reply to this thread and sign-up:

dextire Nov 17th, 2014 12:56 AM

How it works:

You sign up in this thread by stating that you want to join. The last day to sign up is November 24th. Send Dextire a private message with your full mailing address, real name and your forum name/alias. On November 25th, you will receive a PM with the name and address of the person you will be sending your gift to. At this point, you send out your gift before December 8th and get ready to receive a gift of your own! Upon receiving your gift, you must post pictures in this thread to show everyone what you got! It’s not mandatory, but many participants in the past have made a little story out of enjoying their gift(s), so do that if you wanna have extra fun! But at the very least, you need to post photos of what you received. Everyone needs to get pictures of the gifts they received posted by December 22nd.

Everyone has plenty of time to do all of that, so do it!

Special note for those of you who live outside of North America:

You’re more than welcome to participate, but pay special attention to the “how people will be split up” section below.

Rules and Guidelines:
This whole thing is for fun, but there has to be some assurance that everyone will keep up their end of the bargain, so failure to follow the rules and instructions will result in a permanent ban from the forums. Plus, we know Santa pretty well, and he’s assured us that messing up in any way will result in a nice big chunk of coal being rammed up your rectum! :xmas1

Here are some general rules and guidelines everybody should follow:
  • Spend somewhere between 20-25 bucks (USD) on your gift. This amount does NOT include shipping costs. No one likes a cheapskate, so if this is too much money for you, get a job and join next year instead! Don’t go overboard and get something expensive, but don’t cheap out either. If you want to spend more than 25 bucks, you can, but please understand that you most likely won't receive something of equal monetary value. Then again, that's not what this is all about, so that shouldn't matter to you anyway, Scrooge!
  • Obey all deadlines. Screwing someone over, especially at Christmas, is a guaranteed ticket to hell! Let’s see if an eternity of torture will help you be punctual!
  • Before signing up, make sure you have a working camera. If you can’t upload pictures to your computer directly, there are other options such as getting your film developed and put on a CD. Uploading pictures of your gifts is just as important to our Secret Santa event as sending some gifts out is. Remember, if you don't have a camera of your own, your smartphone probably has a better camera anyway and/or you can also buy disposable digital cameras too.
  • MAKE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS UP TO DATE AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY TROUBLE RECEIVING PACKAGES! It’s not hard to find your current address, so don’t fuck it up!
  • Don’t be cheap and make something. If you have to do that, keep the minimum spending amount in mind and please consider sending other purchased stuff along with your creation as well. It's fine to make something in addition to purchasing gifts for your recipient, just try not to only make stuff as it's hard to put a monetary value on that sort of thing.
  • Your mailing address CANNOT be a P.O. Box. No gifts will be sent to P.O. boxes nor will anyone with a P.O box as a mailing address be allowed to participate in the Secret Santa event.
  • Again If you fail to uphold your end of the deal, you will be permanently banned from the forums. So please, don't be a dick. We want this event to be fun for everybody.
  • YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PURCHASE GIFTS FROM DOLLAR STORES. We've had too many people get screwed over by cheap gifts at 99cent / dollar general stores, so please do not purchase gifts from them. If you want to fill out the box with a few things AFTER you've spent the 20 bucks on your main gift, that's just fine.
IF YOU’RE A NEW MEMBER (Registered AND active less than a year)

In an effort to cut down on people who might sign-up just to get free shit, new users need to take the following steps to be eligible to join in the fun:

1. Provide a picture of themselves holding up a hand-written sign that says both "I-MOCKERY SECRET SANTA 2014!#!@!*!&!%!+!=!<!>!¿!" along with their message forum name/name in plain view.

2. Post the picture in this very thread for all to see.

3. PM Dextire, informing him that you are a new member who wants to participate in the secret Santa event. He will then send you a PM with a mailing address.

4. Send a test letter to the mailing address that you were provided with by Dextire. The letter needs to include your full name, return mailing address and your name here on the I-Mockery forums.

5. To ensure that you’re eligible to participate, do all of that as quickly as possible!

These steps are necessary to verify that you have a working camera and the motivation to get your ass to a post office.

DEADLINES!!!!

-The last day to SIGN UP is Monday, November 24th (One week from this posting)

-The last day for SENDING your gifts out is December 8th

-The last day for POSTING PICTURES of the gifts you receive is December 22nd

MAILING YOUR PACKAGE:

-You MUST send out your gifts by priority or express shipping methods to ensure that everyone receives their gifts in a timely fashion. Someone will be doing this for you, so please do it for someone else.

-You MUST purchase a tracking number for your package so that you can keep track of it if there are any delays.

-Do NOT send a PM or email to the person who you are sending a gift to in an attempt to let them know that you're their Secret Santa. It's called "Secret" Santa for a reason, people. Half of the fun is people being surprised when they learn who their Secret Santa is! :xmas3

RECEIVING YOUR PACKAGE:

-Post pictures of all the gifts you receive no later than December 22nd. If you want to be funny with it and make a video or pictorial story or something, that’s great, but just make sure you post it all by the 22nd.

-Take pictures of ALL of your gifts. Half of the fun of this event is seeing recipients enjoying their gifts!

-If you don’t have your package and it’s getting close to the deadline for postings pictures, send a PM to Dextire so he can see what the delay is.

HOW PEOPLE WILL BE SPLIT UP:

Everyone who participates will be paired randomly with someone to send their gift to, but if certain conditions are met, some switches might have to be made:

Because this event attracts people from all over the world, special attention will be paid to making sure people won’t have to spend too much on shipping. This doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed to get someone from the same country as you, but if there are only a couple participants from your part of the world, it’s a possibility. Either way, we will not tolerate complaints from people who refuse to mail packages outside of their country. If you have a problem with this, you shouldn't sign up because there's always a chance you will have to pay a little extra to ship your package out. This season is about giving, so you shouldn't be picky about little things like shipping fees.

And that's all there is to it. Feel free to send any questions to Dextire and let's get this holly jolly commercialism show on the road! :xmas2

Mockery Nov 19th, 2014 04:44 PM

Many thanks for all the years of superb Secret Santa service, 10,000 Volt Ghost! Dextire has some big snow boots to fill, but I'm sure he'll do a fine job. Glad you'll still have time to participate in the event!

dextire Nov 19th, 2014 06:56 PM

Yeah, thanks 10k! I'll do my best to fill in those snow boots. Oh, and holding that torch. I'll do that too. God there's a lot to running this Secret Santa thing. :xmas1

dextire Nov 24th, 2014 09:47 PM

So we're currently at 13 holly jolly Secret Santas. As lucky as we are to be that, it would really be best if we had at least one more. If anyone currently joined has a significant other who could join separately that would be a big help to even things out. :xmas1

Alright, everyone should have there Secret Santas now! PM me any questions. Now get shopping! :xmas3

inferno Nov 26th, 2014 04:33 PM

So how would you feel if you opened up a festively decorated box to find:

blood_panther Dec 1st, 2014 08:20 PM

Glad you liked it! And I'm glad you were looking for the gizmo funko pop. I almost went with a different one, so I'm glad I went with him. The Godzilla ornament is a 60 year anniversary special! (there's also like 9 in the set, and the first years go for a lot, so good luck if you want the complete set)

Side note: as a former employee of hallmark I have more wrapping paper then I know what to do with, so wrapping everything is a blessing.

Once again, glad you enjoyed everything!

dextire Dec 1st, 2014 09:35 PM

Great job on the video, BatmanJohnson! That cat came so close to attacking you. :lol
And that's one seriously generous haul you sent, Blood Panther! :xmas1
A perfect way to kick this thing off right!

ChrisGlass Dec 2nd, 2014 01:30 PM

Jeez? People are already getting the packages? I need to step up my game!

MarioRPG Dec 2nd, 2014 05:09 PM

I haven't sent mine yet :melt But I will be this week, and hey, I'm still in the deadline so yeah. I've got it loaded up and ready to go, full of fun goodies! Just need to get over to the actual post office and make things happen.

That video was good, althoguh that cat is definitely the star :love

replicant Dec 2nd, 2014 07:40 PM

That was truly a great video. LOVED IT! Laughed pretty good. I have most of my stuff done for my recipient. I have a few other items I want to get then I can mail this behemoth off.

ChrisGlass Dec 2nd, 2014 11:28 PM

Okay. Got my package! I'll unwrap it and make a video soon.

Nick Dec 3rd, 2014 08:43 PM

Shit, I was busy this year and missed the deadline. Damnit. Sorry guys!
If anyone's interested I'll totally swap gifts with you.

BatmanJohnson Dec 5th, 2014 01:05 PM

mailed out my present today expected delivery Monday

Mockery Dec 5th, 2014 04:22 PM

Great video, BatmanJohnson, and a super excellent haul compliments of blood_panther too! That Godzilla ornament is killer.

In regards to my Secret Santa, I haven't shipped out the gifts yet as we had a death in the family and I'm just now back in town and playing catch-up on a million things. Will be sending some goodies out soon though so you'll definitely receive 'em well before Christmas.

Looking forward to seeing more holiday hauls!

Mockery Dec 6th, 2014 02:45 AM

Egads, my Secret Santa package has already arrived!

Will try to set aside time to dig into this thing in the near future, but just wanted to say thanks in advance to my Secret Santa, Chris Glass, for delivering my gift(s) this year. The packaging made me think there was something that I needed to stick in the fridge, but he assured me I didn't. Guess he's not worried about the severed body parts likely found within stinking up my home. Those innocent Lisa Frank stickers don't fool me for a second.
:xmas2

dextire Dec 6th, 2014 05:36 PM

Wow, that's quite the mystery. If he hard froze the head first, I'm guessing you'll have a week before any problems occur. Of course the FBI will be knocking on your door long before that. :xmas1

Thanos Dec 6th, 2014 07:34 PM

My Secret Santa package went in the mail today. It has a long journey ahead, but hopefully it'll get there within a reasonable amount of time.

replicant Dec 7th, 2014 10:42 AM

Mine went out the door yesterday! Yeah!! :D

Mockery Dec 7th, 2014 06:35 PM

Alright, here's my big Secret Santa 2014 holiday haul video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxLOX8tjx90

Thanks again to my Secret Santa, Chris Glass! (and Katia too!)

Good times! :xmas2 :xmas3

ChrisGlass Dec 7th, 2014 08:17 PM

You're welcome. And dont worry about the mystery novel. That and many other things are essentially space fillers I got through other means. But I found that barfing Pac-Man and had to buy it.
No clue how I never saw it before this week and I didn't know if you would have seen it before. It's right up your alley.

The Ninja Turtle candy canes are a year old. So they MAY still be OK.

And be sure to read the Superman puzzle. The articles are ridiculous.

Mockery Dec 7th, 2014 08:32 PM

Chris - Haha, yep, I put it together right after I finished the video.

Classic! :xmas1

p.s.: I forgot to mention that I shipped out my gift, so hopefully it'll arrive sometime within the next week.

replicant Dec 8th, 2014 01:36 PM

It is expected to take 2-3 days to get to its destination.

Nice hauls everybody! :D

I am used to doing things one handed. My cat Mushu is one wooly cat. He's always wanting me to hold him so...gotta get good at juggling things with one hand. ;)

ChrisGlass Dec 9th, 2014 03:04 PM

I realllly apologize for not posting things yet.
Not sure I'll have time tonight, either. Maybe late Wednesday.

dextire Dec 9th, 2014 06:21 PM

Nice job on the photo tour, blood_panther!
Excellent photos, Ex Leper! I like the gradient. Oh, and Bullet Bill!

I received my package! Here's a sneak peak at coming attractions:

the world needs more krampus.

MarioRPG Dec 10th, 2014 10:46 AM

Glad you enjoyed the gifts, blood_panther. I had lots of fun going through and finding goodies for you. And yes, those last candies are incredibly delicious. I believe they are called "Christmas Drops" or something along those lines. As far as the gift arriving on your birthday goes, let's just leave that to the magic of Christmas.

ChrisGlass Dec 11th, 2014 01:37 AM

Alright. Found some time to record a video!
Here we go!
Just under 10 minutes long. Sorry. I'm not a fan of jump cuts and I needed to get Mrs. Claus to open her gifts.

Thanks a bunch ExLeper!

Ex Leper Dec 11th, 2014 09:44 AM

Glad you enjoyed it and sorry for the address mix-up. According to Amazon Snoopy is suppose to be an ornament

My name was a reference to Monty Python's Life of Brian, there is a cured leper character begging for money.

Oh. It's an ornament all right. She put it on the tree seconds after the video finished.

Thanos Dec 15th, 2014 11:23 AM

I want to thank Dr. Boogie for the giant box of candy he sent me. While I am diabetic and can't eat any of it, I'm certain I can gift the little bundles of tasty joy out to my family, friends and local kids in the neighborhood. Thank you!

inferno Dec 15th, 2014 03:12 PM

Its just isn't Christmas without sour Skittles! And now I really want to try those Strawberry Creme Peeps.

Also, I think I have received my gift recently. It is at my home, while I am finishing my term in school. I was planning on opening it when I get back on the 19th. If that is a problem, anonymously send me a sign, and I can "open" it over telecast or something.

The best part is that I tried to get a variety of different candies in the hopes there'd be something he'd like...

is what I would've said, but that really wasn't the best part; the BEST part was that I included a letter joking about losing your foot to diabetes.

So yeah, smooth work all around, Dr. Boogie.

This is our pillow moment this year, right?

Edit: Not to imply anything negative. I just find this hilarious and the talking point of Christmas. There's no way to really know that without doing WAY too much research, which is a scary thing.

It's all good Dr. Boogie - the letter was the best part. I read it and chuckled pretty loud! It was HILARIOUS! It was like I was trapped in a Monty Python sketch!

replicant Dec 15th, 2014 08:59 PM

My person should get their stuff today. *crossing the fingers*

Dr. Boogie Dec 15th, 2014 11:48 PM

I sent out two Secret Santa packages this year, and I received two in return. The first is from Inferno:

It's a Viewmaster package featuring several famous comic book heroes, from both DC and MArvel strangely enough. And rounding it out, a few Star Wars buttons. I really enjoyed how perfectly the Death Star fit onto the button.

The superhero ones came on a series of discs, and some came with books to provide extra exposition with each slide. I admit I don't know much about Viewmasters, but I thought the idea was to just look through them and see some cool pictures. Having to look through and break to do some reading seems kinda antithetical to the whole experience.

And as if that weren't confusing enough, the books had their own pictures, too! In this one, Superman is getting shot in the hand by Benito Mussolini. Weird book.

Dr. Boogie Dec 16th, 2014 12:26 AM

And the next package is from Replicant. Her presents came nicely wrapped in a big box, but the box got a little wet in transit (I guess UPS trucks aren't watertight?), so I had to quickly unwrap and air dry them, but they still turned out okay:

First were a couple of Trash Pack figures. I call them Sammy Slug and Reinhard Drumstick.

I am totally blanking out on what you call that old toy where you put the beads down in a pattern and then melt them together, but here's a necklace of a zombie kitty with brains, and a zombie pin to match. I did almost choke myself out putting the thing around my neck.

On the edible front, I got one of those milk chocolate orange things and some peanut butter chocolate breakfast bar. Chocolate really is one of the best things to get for Xmas (again, apologies to Thanos).

And here, a selection of CDs. The Wipeout XL soundtrack I recognized because video games, but Count Basic and Sonique I am not familiar with. Still, always good to branch out so that you're not just stuck listening to Huey Lewis and the Backstreet Boys.

If there's a funnier movie about cannibalism, I haven't seen it (maybe Cannibal: The Musical, but it's close). Title kinda gives the ending away, though.

An anthology of science fiction stories. And not just any sci-fi stories; these are based on stuff MIT claims could actually be developed, rather than the sort of ill-explained, magical technology in a lot of sci fi stories. Take that, Arthur C. Clarke!

This was a pretty impressive poster of Jesse and Walt from Breaking Bad. I don't have any glib comments to make about it. It's just a pretty cool poster.

Last of all was a Mad Libs card. I had the package sent to my office, and the first thing the front desk guy and I thought upon see it was "is that Kim Possible?"

It wasn't, and we both quickly distanced ourselves from that comment. We went through it, and here's the result:

Derek loves to go out and sing fast Christmas carols with his portly friends - but he always spikes his thermos of hot chocolate with too much 100-proof Drano. The result this year was a rather hairy rendition of "Jingle Bells" that went like this:

Dying through the Cape Canaveral in a one-horse open jetpack. O'er the fields we go, fencing all the way. Bells on John's tail ring, making spirits bright. What fun it is to ride and sing a digging song tonight. Jingle boots, jingle bells, jingle all the way! Oh, what fun it is to shock in a one-aardvark open sled.

replicant Dec 16th, 2014 12:37 AM

LOL! Just to be clear - I don't have man parts. ;) I am a lady.

I am glad you didn't choke yourself to death because that's a Zombie Kitty Tree Ornament. LOL! :) It's made from Perler Beads.

Eating Raoul is dark comedy from the 80s. It's pretty nutty. :)

Sonique is trance. Count Basic is Acid Jazz but it's Kruder remixing so it's a bit of an added electronica element.

Since I wasn't sure what your interests were exactly, I tried to bring you an eclectic mix of things. ;) hehe

Mockery Dec 16th, 2014 12:57 AM

Excellent hauls so far, everyone!

Also, Dr. Boogie giving Thanos candy along with a note joking about diabetes is like some kind of twisted Christmas miracle. Glad you can still make good use of the candies, Thanos! If we do another Secret Santa event next year, make sure you add "candy" alongside "pillows" to your list of things you don't want people to purchase for ya. ;)

Anyway, keep the gift posts coming. According to Dextire, we're halfway done! :xmas2

Dr. Boogie Dec 16th, 2014 01:00 AM

Ah. Apologies for the mix-up.

And that does make more sense about the zombie cat being an ornament, and not an especially small necklace/large bracelet.

10,000 Volt Ghost Dec 16th, 2014 07:01 PM

Got my package in the mail today. Pics are up in photo bucket butI need to get into my pc to properly put them in a post.

dextire Dec 16th, 2014 08:05 PM

A fine couple of hauls, Dr. Boogie!
I love that "necklace". :lol

Okay, I got my package from BatmanJohnson and here's the pics! :xmas1

Some nicely wrapped gifts along with a bunch of Christmas candy! The Santa ones are Crisp Kringles, ho ho ho!

Now that's quite a haul! Comics, Zombies, and Boba Fett! Rat Queens has four Daves. Action Philosophers has Plato necromancing Socrates back. And Saga is just all kinds of messed up.

Here we have "The Walking Dead" MiniMates. Tiny little Lego type figures. And the two things in the middle are shoulders for "Shoulder Zombie" to munch on! :xmas1

And lastly we have a Boba Fett "fabrikation" from Funko! He's fabric with an awesome leather belt, can turn his head 360°, and has heavy flat feet to stand up easily.

Thanks for the great stuff, BatmanJohnson! And Merry Christmas, everybody! :xmas3

10,000 Volt Ghost Dec 17th, 2014 01:38 AM

Inside low and behold I found THE FINGER MONSTERS

The next gift will make sure I will not get ear bugs

Next up Alexander the Great and his Batstache

Finally we have some Jackalope wine guy

No note so not sure who sent it. Anyway happy Santa day.

Thanos Dec 17th, 2014 12:58 PM

That would be me, though when I shipped it I wrote up a note and it said they would include it. Damn! Well, I hope you enjoyed all the gifts anyway! Always love McPhee's goodies.
:xmas3

Great pictures Dextire! I wanted to get you a Rat queens trade, but my favorite shop was out. So I sent another favorite Saga. I thought action Philosophers was amusing enough.
Merry Christmas!

I did receive the package on that day, but it took me a while to make a video because I am not good with computer. Once again, I will add the disclaimer that I sound very sarcastic / unappreciative but that is certainly not the case! I will have the video up tomorrow.
:xmas1

Thanos Dec 20th, 2014 05:29 PM

Glad to hear MarioRPG. Hope the goodies in the box were to your liking! We all eagerly anticipate the video. :-D

Protoclown Dec 21st, 2014 12:45 PM

I received my package from 10,000 Volt Ghost yesterday! Woot! Thank you for the box of wondrous goodies! And with the help of my friend Karim, I have made a video of the opening!

blood_panther Dec 21st, 2014 03:03 PM

looking good! as an update, it looks like just MarioRPG and inferno have yet to get their gifts. (or at least post them) on the flip side Thanos and (If i'm understanding this whole 2 gifts set out thing) Dr. Boogie are left from the possible secret santas.

Everythings gone really smooth this year.

MarioRPG Dec 21st, 2014 03:07 PM

As promised - here is the video of my gift openings. For those of you that don't watch videos, I received a bunch of 80s toys and some comics - you should watch the video!

Thanos Dec 21st, 2014 03:45 PM

Rock on MarioRPG! Great video. Glad everything was to your liking. That green monster was indeed a Masters of the Universe figure. It's Kobra Khan. You can remove his head and fill his body with water. Replace the head and push down and he'll spit "venom" out his mouth. How cool?!

MarioRPG Dec 22nd, 2014 08:21 PM

I think Protoclown's video may have outshone my own because it featured a cat cameo as well as a sword in the background - which he so totally would own. Thanks again for the great gifts though Thanos, my friends think it was all pretty rad. ps Definitely awesome that Kobra Khan can do that!!

I forgot to mention - that purple monster is the Bug Eye Ghost from the Real Ghostbusters toy series. It was released in 1987. You can pop his large eye out of his head. It's attached to a string. Just be careful - the eye and string are both known to break on the figure if not handled with care. Finding a good one without damage (like the one I sent you) can be difficult.

dextire Dec 22nd, 2014 10:32 PM

Great job on the videos, guys! "Chest net chess tips". :lol
So all that's left is for inferno to post pictures and we'll have this year's event all wrapped up! :xmas1

:xmas2:xmas3

inferno Dec 23rd, 2014 07:00 PM

I exist! With a video showing the presents I got this year from power duo Rog and Dr. Boogie, as I first opened them!

After getting most of my assignments done, I have finally edited and uploaded this video. Note that the quietness and any perceived lack of joyousness is entirely due to it being 5am at my time of filming. I really like the gifts I got.

Also, here is the letter I sent Dr. Boogie.
Spoilers!

dextire Dec 24th, 2014 09:51 PM

Mighty fine video, inferno! I love the geeky chaos of that room. :xmas1

As I'm off to somewhere I'm pretty sure still doesn't even have 3g coverage, Merry Christmas everyone! :xmas3

Mockery Dec 25th, 2014 10:31 AM

Excellent! Glad everybody enjoyed their goodies and the 2014 Secret Santa event went off without a hitch. Nicely done everyone, and BIG THANKS to Dextire for running the show for the first time this year!

Merry Christmas all! :xmas3:xmas2:xmas1
