Exquisite Corpse 01 - DONE!!

okay, this is an idea i had while in the shower today.

let's say we designate a size for an image an people sign up and an order is formed via first come first serve.

so let's say i'm the first person (duh). i create an image at the designated size, and i send maybe like the last 50 pixels high of the image to the next person on the list. they create an image and send the last 50 pixels high or wide (depending on orientation) of the image to the next person on the list etc etc etc.

all images will be sent to me to compile into a larger image to be posted at the end.

it will be landscape (horizontal) orientation (this does not mean the images need to be landscapes though!)

all images will be 600 pixels tall, varying in width from 200px to a maximum of 1500px.

the 50 width by 600 height images that are used to hint the artists will be posted in this thread.
artists will send me their contributions and i will update the page with said hint images. also, participants will be PMed when their hint is posted just to make sure that they know it's their turn.

the project has started! but people can join until it comes down to the last person. please feel free to do so.

EDIT:

IT'S DONE, NOW DISCUSS WHAT TO DO FOR THE NEXT ONE

EDIT: if you guys don't know what an exquisite corpse is, it's when a group of artists contribute to a continues drawing with only a hint of what the last artist did. or just go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_corpse

exquisite corpsers:
1. bigtimecow
2. arg_zombies
3. MLE
4. Nick
5. ZAKO the GREAT
6. Grislygus
7. King Hadas
8. sandradoesdallas

arg_zombies Jan 9th, 2008 01:02 PM

So, like, you draw/make one thing, then the next person adds to it etc. and it keeps going and then you see how far it's progressed or something?

bigtimecow Jan 9th, 2008 01:03 PM

yes. but you don't see it until the end and no one fully sees what the previous person has done. that wikipedia link has some nice examples.

arg_zombies Jan 9th, 2008 01:04 PM

Sounds cool - I'll join it whenever it comes to life or whatever :love

bigtimecow Jan 9th, 2008 01:10 PM

alright sweet. i'm going to start editing the first post to start a potential thread. well, i shouldn't say potential. either way it's going to happen, and at this point it's between just me and you. :(

any suggestions for the other elements?

arg_zombies Jan 9th, 2008 01:14 PM

To be honest I'm not too sure yet, but I shall surely ponder it

Tadao Jan 9th, 2008 02:24 PM

I can give it a try. If I fail I can pass on the 50 pixels to the next. If that's ok with you. That way people can at least give it a go and not feel like they are fucking up a project.

I saw Fark do a train that went from left to right. That was rad.

What would be a good scroll down theme? A very tall monster? BTC can draw the head and feet?

Tadao Jan 9th, 2008 02:49 PM

Changed my mind, I think left to right landscape would be better. Oh and what about a time limit. The longer a person has to work on it, the better it will be. And is color allowed?

bigtimecow Jan 9th, 2008 03:00 PM

i think color isn't necessary, but definitely allowed. i'd love to combine as many art styles as possible.

i'd almost rather do a large monster, but it would be kind of hard to figure out like, when the hands and feet start / end etc. but the landscape would probably be better.

a time limit / due date is probably a good idea. maybe no more than a week or something. but then again, if someone finishes early, does the next person's time limit start then? if people would be dedicated enough to do this, that would be awesome.

anyways, i'll add you to the list.

Misdemonar Jan 9th, 2008 05:03 PM

I will do this

MLE Jan 9th, 2008 08:40 PM

I think landscape orientation would work very well, but i have some great ideas for portrait orientation. I think that the next artist should be able to edit and make your artwork blend into the last one for those 50 pixels! <3 I love it. I am totally in.

Nick Jan 9th, 2008 09:11 PM

Sounds like fun.

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 12:01 AM

so are you in nick?

and :love glad to get approval!

MLE, that would probably be optional. otherwise some things might have straight lines seperating all of them between like b&w and color, so i would say that that is optional if necessary.

alright, so i think landscape orientation is now a definite.

now the next question, size? i'm thinking something like 600 pixels tall... maybe 800 pixels wide (including the 50 pixels that gets shown to the next person).

also, just so the thing doesn't get boring while it's going on, the 50x600 or whatever size hint sections will be posted on here so people can be all curious and shit.

!!!!! :love

Tadao Jan 10th, 2008 01:49 AM

Width shouldn't be an issue. they can probably vary in width.

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 02:35 AM

i suppose the width could vary, but let's set a limit. like... no more than 1500 pixels or something.

MLE Jan 10th, 2008 03:32 AM

I think the width should be within a range, like between 600 and 1200 px wide, while being 600 px tall for each section, including your last 50 px wide.

PS - I can't wait to get a version of this printed after it's done <3

MLE Jan 10th, 2008 03:35 AM

for the first one, I think we should go around once. Maybe next time, we can go in a full circle, and have the last one connect to the first :trippy

arg_zombies Jan 10th, 2008 08:10 AM

Or like, someones draws a table like on the wikipedia one and then sends one section of the table to each person and they add whatever they want into it :lol

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 11:53 AM

lol

alright, the max size is going to be 1500 px!

Nick Jan 10th, 2008 10:40 PM

This would be fun to do if I actually understood what we're doing. Are we just drawing a random landscape picture, and then putting them together, or are we taking turns adding on to one image?

bigtimecow Jan 10th, 2008 11:47 PM

taking turns adding "length" to one image. let me go step by step for instance:

so i draw a horizontal image (doesn't matter the content) but i make the lines and whatever extend off the right-edge of the page. then, the last 50 pixels wide of the pictures gets sent to arg_zombies and he starts his image with those 50 pixels so the lines / colors can connect. then he does the same for Tadao.

ya dig?

arg_zombies Jan 11th, 2008 06:28 AM

Hmmm we probably wanna keep inmind, if this is landscpae, that it could get pretty panoramic, so maybe every 2, we go down :lol

bigtimecow Jan 11th, 2008 10:49 AM

so the entire piece ends up like a zig zag? :( not sure if i understand

arg_zombies Jan 11th, 2008 10:53 AM

:lol don't worry about it

I meant that, if everyone keeps adding on, won't the picture eventually too big? Or will that be regulated, like how many people can enter at a time :|

arg_zombies Jan 11th, 2008 10:58 AM

What I said up there was,
If it starts to get too big, we could then link it down, so the picture kind of goes under itself, like so:

bigtimecow Jan 11th, 2008 06:39 PM

oooh, that would be interesting. but really, too big? does that exist when it comes to this kind of stuff? ;-)

when we post it it'll be a huge scrolly picture and it'll be sweet. we could even do what MLE suggested and connect the two ends.

arg_zombies Jan 11th, 2008 06:51 PM

Mmm one more question - does the last 50px become part of the new picture, or just use it as a guideline, but not include it in our submission?

ZAKO the GREAT Jan 11th, 2008 08:45 PM

can i join?

MLE Jan 11th, 2008 11:15 PM

I think we should just have it be landscape this time, but I was thinking about doing one like they suggested, but you'd need multiple starting points. Like, if you were the 4th person to go, you not only have something next to you that's already drawn, but you have something above it too. You'd need 50 px of each. I think that should happen on our second of third one of these :>

If it was a landscape drawing people could continue up into the sky, or down under ground.

MLE Jan 11th, 2008 11:53 PM

I understand that, but this is the first time we're attempting this, so as i said, I think that should happen on maybe our second or third time around.

bigtimecow Jan 12th, 2008 01:26 AM

arg_zombies, the last 50 is part of the submission before yours, you just use it as a guide to begin yours.

ZAKO, you are added to the list my friend!

MLE, i completely agree. if this works out nicely, then we should do more runs with different orientations and/or directions etc. etc.

oh! and i think i'm going to cut this off at 10 people (atleast that's when we'll start, and if someone else joins while it is still going then that's fine).

MLE Jan 12th, 2008 02:28 AM

Sounds good! BTC, let me know if i can help!

bigtimecow Jan 12th, 2008 02:49 AM

MLE, FIND SOME MORE PARTICIPANTS

STAT

Tadao Jan 12th, 2008 03:07 AM

I think some may be worried that their art (or lack there of) will be side by side with some of the truley talented here. I know I'm nervous as all hell because mine is really simple and tame. Not at all intricate. But this is just a tester so to speak guys, so just join in even if you don't think you have the skills.

MLE Jan 12th, 2008 03:45 AM

I understand your position. The thing is, I really enjoy seeing people that don't put as much detail into their work, since I can't be that free and simplistic. It takes so much effort to make something that looks good and looks like it was made in less than 30 seconds or whatever.

My point is, no matter what type of art you do, please participate, because you don't know who's going to fall in love with your stuff ;<

arg_zombies Jan 12th, 2008 07:46 AM

Yeah! I might fall in love with your stuff :love

bigtimecow Jan 14th, 2008 02:11 AM

k, i am very impatient and am starting this NOW

so i'm going to start my piece, and when i am done (within a week) i will post the 600x50 hint image for everyone to see, and for arg_zombies to work off of!

Tadao Jan 14th, 2008 02:29 AM

I'm all nervous and stuff...

arg_zombies Jan 14th, 2008 02:23 PM

:|

Grislygus Jan 14th, 2008 03:12 PM

I still do not understand this concept because I have all the logical, deductive, and reasoning capabilities of your average goldfish. But, I'm willing to jump into this shindig.

bigtimecow Jan 14th, 2008 03:56 PM

grislygus, you have been added to the list. it'll become easier as to understand once the first "hint" image is posted.

no worries! :love

bigtimecow Jan 14th, 2008 05:27 PM

the first hint has arrived!

arg_zombies, this is for you:

i will also be PMing arg_zombies to let him know it is his turn, as i will be with each person when it is their turn.

MLE Jan 14th, 2008 05:29 PM

excellent ;o what a hint! is he allowed to edit this part at all, in an effort to make them fit together more seamlessly? I think we agreed upon that. (i'm asking because i'll be doing minor editing on the 50px hint I recieve).

bigtimecow Jan 14th, 2008 05:32 PM

yes you can edit them. this should look as seemless as possible.

ZAKO the GREAT Jan 14th, 2008 10:20 PM

this is gonna be fun.

MLE Jan 14th, 2008 10:47 PM

totally :>

arg_zombies Jan 15th, 2008 03:04 PM

Hey BTC, what colouring did you use - your pic comes out darker on mine

bigtimecow Jan 15th, 2008 03:57 PM

actually, shit, it might be CMYK. just get it as close as possible. when the entire piece is done i'll do some touch ups (nothing big) to blend colors and such as best as possible

arg_zombies Jan 15th, 2008 03:58 PM

Ok - I can probs convert mine to that, hopefully :lol

arg_zombies Jan 15th, 2008 04:37 PM

Done :/

Tadao Jan 15th, 2008 04:45 PM

eek

bigtimecow Jan 16th, 2008 02:07 AM

the next hint!!!

great work arg_zombies. your turn Tadao.

Tadao Jan 16th, 2008 02:14 AM

I'm on it!. Thanks for not being a dick arg :)

arg_zombies Jan 16th, 2008 12:13 PM

:lol no problem

bigtimecow Jan 16th, 2008 01:47 PM

was what i had considered being a dick? :(

maybe i don't :love you guys as much as i thought i did :(

Tadao Jan 16th, 2008 04:13 PM

no but i was wondering what I would have to work off of. BTC, you haven't had that issue yet.

Tadao Jan 17th, 2008 03:37 PM

Ok, I'm gonna do what is honorable and bow out. I don't have the computer or the computer skills to draw with a mouse. I did try and it would be a stain.

So pass the hint to the right please.

bigtimecow Jan 17th, 2008 06:09 PM

no worries. so then it is up to misdemonar!

just for next time Tadao, you don't have to do it on the computer, you could draw something on paper as long as it matched up slightly. but hey! thank you for letting us know and not leaving us hanging.

respect :love

Misdemonar Jan 18th, 2008 12:22 AM

alright, so am I suppose to figure out what arg was drawing and try to continue it?

MLE Jan 18th, 2008 12:44 AM

you make your own drawing and start it with that hint. then you take the last 50 px wide of YOURS and send it to BTC

bigtimecow Jan 18th, 2008 02:05 AM

he sends the whole thing to me! and either you can make the 50 pixel hint or i can make it for you. either way send me the full image.

arg_zombies Jan 18th, 2008 01:06 PM

Yeah and it better be worse than mine, to make me look good >:

arg_zombies Jan 22nd, 2008 08:17 PM

How's this all going, guys?
I was away a few days, so I dunno if anyone has progressed :lol

bigtimecow Jan 23rd, 2008 11:33 AM

it hasn't yet. but we hope it does soon!

MISDEMONAR!!

bigtimecow Jan 28th, 2008 08:53 AM

alright, so misdemonar has also dropped out :(

no hard feelings to you mis, but damn this is sucking some mean dick

anyway, MLE is up

Tadao Jan 28th, 2008 10:53 AM

I might be able to join back in at the bottom if BTC (or someone else) is willing to work with me in color matching and joining my piece digitaly. I don't have the computer power to do it. My laptop only has 64megs of ram, yes... 64megs.

bigtimecow Jan 28th, 2008 12:30 PM

you can definitely join at the bottom, and just make you piece, and when i join them all together i'll fuck with the colors to make it smooth

Tadao Jan 28th, 2008 12:37 PM

Ok, cool. Put me back in after Gus.

King Hadas Jan 28th, 2008 01:53 PM

Hey, can I join in on this?

bigtimecow Jan 28th, 2008 04:07 PM

King Hadas and Tadao added!

MLE Jan 29th, 2008 12:25 AM

I'm majorly sick, but I'll try to get mine started tomorrow, and ended within a few days.

bigtimecow Jan 29th, 2008 09:25 PM

great work MLE!

your turn Nick!

arg_zombies Jan 30th, 2008 12:24 PM

ahaha good luck ;)

Tadao Jan 30th, 2008 01:09 PM

Mle with a 1,2 roundhouse

Nick Jan 30th, 2008 08:33 PM

Alright, I've moved to my new house and have the internet back. So I guess I'll start working on that art shit. :)

bigtimecow Jan 31st, 2008 10:54 PM

sandradoesdallas Feb 1st, 2008 07:41 PM

arg_zombies Feb 3rd, 2008 05:18 PM

Grislygus Feb 5th, 2008 04:26 PM

Awright, starting this shit right naw

bigtimecow Feb 7th, 2008 08:30 AM

woops, sorry, grisly, you can't until zako fixes his. :( sorry!

MattJack Feb 7th, 2008 04:42 PM

when will yall be showing this piece to the public? I demand to know.

Tadao Feb 7th, 2008 05:03 PM

Only those who participated get to see it.

MLE Feb 7th, 2008 09:30 PM

hahaha ;D

arg_zombies Feb 10th, 2008 05:51 PM

Well, show me the way
To the next whiskey bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why
Show me the way
To the next whiskey bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why
For if we don't find
The next whiskey bar
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

bigtimecow Feb 10th, 2008 08:57 PM

zako hasnt replied to me in awhile, so i just fixed his for him (i didn't realize it would be as easy as it was) but here's his hint:

GRISLYGUS NOW YOU CAN GO GO GO GO GO GO GO

Grislygus Feb 12th, 2008 03:04 PM

GO GO GO GOING NOW

arg_zombies Feb 17th, 2008 06:40 PM

How's it all fitting, guys?

King Hadas Feb 18th, 2008 06:54 AM

I won't have internet for maybe the next 30 days so if Grislygus and Tadao should finish their's and you guys start feeling impatience feel free to skip over me.

bigtimecow Feb 18th, 2008 12:00 PM

right now we're just waiting on grislygus. HURRY UP YOU FAGGORT

j/k :love

if this becomes a problem king hadas, then we shall. :(

bigtimecow Feb 25th, 2008 09:03 PM

grislygus is done! and if i am correct, this is hand drawn? possibly charcoal? either way, great work!

now for Tadao's turn!

also, i've noticed that some of the entries are lacking continuity with the hints given to them. all of the pieces are very well done, don't get me wrong about that, but it seems that they are being made by themselves, rather than as part of the whole piece.

i think next time around we will limit colors and such so that this won't be a problem.

Grislygus Feb 26th, 2008 02:31 PM

I was thinking the scanned paper would show up blacker. I can digitally edit the left side so that it matches better, if need be.

Tadao Feb 26th, 2008 03:58 PM

I think in order to have continuity, we would have to see all the previous work.

arg_zombies Feb 26th, 2008 06:39 PM

Huh? :lol

Tadao Feb 26th, 2008 07:38 PM

I mean to say, if the picture is to continue, I need to see the whole previous picture.

Nick Feb 27th, 2008 01:28 AM

Only 3 more to go. :3
