This was originally meant to be a Vertigo version of the Brigade, so obviously everyone is miserable and drunk all the time. And while the story is confusing, you have to give it credit for being confusing in exactly the same way russian action/crime films are.

I feel I should reccomend the Boys, a great Graphic novel series from garth Ennis which also includes the likeness of Simon Pegg.
