Michael Richards at it again...

I'm sure you've heard all about the recent Michael Richards fiasco. I'm afraid that was just the start of it all. He's gone and done it again:

What's that from?

Mockery Nov 21st, 2006 02:23 PM

"So I Married An Axe Murderer"

GADZOOKS Nov 21st, 2006 02:27 PM

He also burned a puerto rico flag

Mockery Nov 21st, 2006 02:36 PM

Seriously though, what do you all think of this situation? If you haven't seen his apology on Letterman, check it out here:

I don't get why gadzook's thread was closed. Yeah they're about the same guy but that was a clip from a movie and he had a very real, very weird clip from letterman in a forum about tv. Maybe I'm missin something here but that's kinda odd.

Edit: Oh. There ya go.

Mockery Nov 21st, 2006 03:00 PM

Closed it so we can all talk about it here in the main forum for those people who don't usually visit the movies forum. That's why I linked to it from here and included the letterman clip.

GADZOOKS Nov 21st, 2006 03:04 PM

whatever, creep

kahljorn Nov 21st, 2006 03:05 PM

lol i like in the video where you hear people laughing and jerry goes, "Stop laughing it's not funny". Mr. Serious !

mburbank Nov 21st, 2006 03:05 PM

It's bummin' me out, man.

I've loved Richards since he was on "Fridays" a HORRIBLE sketch comedy show valuable only for showcasing Richards way back when, and for a prank Andy Kaufman staged with Richards assistance.

The mental pressure of Stand-up is not to be underestimated. When I was frequenting the clubs in the eighties, I saw more than one comic totally loose it and freak out.

That being said, it's kind of horrible what came bubbling up out of his psyche when he did freak out.

Nowhere NEAR as funny as Mel Gibson.

FartinMowler Nov 21st, 2006 03:14 PM

Isn't a stand-up comedy place pretty much anything goes?

kahljorn Nov 21st, 2006 03:16 PM

lol everything except racist comments against races that aren't your own i guess.

at first i thought he was calling God a ****** because of how he was facing upwards and I thought it was hilarious :O

Why can't a white guy call a black guy a disreputable person of African-American descent?

Do native people still chuck Spears in New Zealand? :/

Azrael Nov 21st, 2006 04:17 PM

It doesn't bother me that much. But he should have known better. I saw a similar situation at our own Comedy Club a few months ago. A Black guy was attempting to heckle the opening act, and failed miserably at it.. The comedian then starts making racial jokes, and telling the dude he isn't funny. We were rolling on the floor, he completely owned the heckler. BUT, he never once stooped to using the N word. There is a big difference between racial humour, and racial slurs. It's something Dave Chappelle had a great understanding of.

Pub Lover Nov 21st, 2006 04:17 PM

The other day one of Chris Rock's live shows was on tv here, he was heckled and his response was "Shut up, ******".

If Michael Richards had said 'Asshole' instead, would there be this outcry, what if the heckler had been white...?

I find the idea of banned words for only some people offensive.

I do not agree that Michael Richards was right in his tirade, however.

Yes.

Okay, I believe a white comedian could, theoretically, call someone ****** and get away with it IF, IF, IF he makes it funny, which is hard enough.

But Richards wasn't making much of an effort to be funny. He'd lost it. Being in the audience when a comic looses it on the audience is pretty uncomfortable to begin with, and the slurs combine with the uncomfirtable, unfunny awfullness of the moment and make a horrible stew.

Hey guys, just so you know, I've read 14 pages of debate on this issue on another message board, so why don't we skip it and just have fun

seriously I love that this happened. Its so great, waiting for him to come on letterman must've been how my mom felt waiting for the beatles to come on ed sullivan. I like to think I wasn't alone in this, and that there was not a single crime commited durring the broadcast.

GADZOOKS Nov 21st, 2006 05:29 PM

Stop laughing, it's not funny

Liked I said in my cancelled thread, this is the best moment in my television history. The only thing I can compare it to was Andy Kaufman on Fridays which just so happened to have Richards in it.

Archduke Tips Nov 21st, 2006 05:42 PM

Don't worry, all this racial tension stuff that has been happening lately will be swept under the rug. Everybody will get back to gettin' that GOLD!!!

Was that the incident in Man on the Moon when Andy totally breaks the fourth wall, and the actors are all WTF?

GADZOOKS Nov 21st, 2006 07:21 PM

Yes.

Supposedly Richards was in on that one, but I've seen some behind the scenes stuff of Richards being a real dick when people mess up so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't.
