2008 NFL Season

HUGE EDIT: Scanned the forum and didn't notice the previous 2008 NFL thread until after I posted this. Feel free to delete I guess.

Training camp is only a month away so now is the time to switch gears from basketball and cricket to the upcoming NFL season. What are your expectations for your respective team? Which rookie(s) do you feel will have an immediate impact? Will Terrell Owens dance the Charleston atop a flagpole in Sheboygan, WI? What are the odds that Dennis Green enters and wins the annual Coney Island hot dog eating contest?

The bold and beautiful Vikings prediction - 11-5 with the NFC North crown and falling to the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game.

Super Bowl Champion - Dallas Cowboys

Offensive Rookie of the Year:
Darren McFadden - Raiders (provided he gets adequate carries in a crowded backfield)

Defensive Rookie of the Year:
Keith Rivers - Bengals

Forgotten Coach of the Year: Wayne Fontes

My prediction? Considering how ridiculously easy the schedule will be for the pats in the upcoming season, the hatred and the incessent complaining toward the team will go from national to global. I think they will go 13-3 with the major adjustments on the defensive side with a lot of new and young players. I don't want to predict the postseason just yet.

And uuhh, I don't care about other teams.

I don't see a 2008 NFL thread other than this one. There is a 2008 NFL draft thread, but that is different. So I say keep this thread as is.

The Vikings "lost" to the Seahawks 34-17 tonight due to five fumbles and a lackluster Vikes D. Tarvaris Jackson played solid completing 8 out of 11 passes with some nice throws to Thomas Tapeh and Bernard Berrian. But dear god, apparently Brad Childress doesn't teach a little something called ball control.

I thought Cleveland looked solid despite their preseason loss to the Jets. Anderson played quite well for the 2 or 3 series he played in throwing a touchdown and throwing no interceptions. Brady Quinn also did well throwing a touchdown and an interception. The recieving core looks polished for so early, though the 3rd and 4th string defense all but collapsed allowing the Jets to get the victory (not that that matters, I saw exactly what I wanted to see in the first half).

I can't wait to see what Cleveland does this year, I think they could make some serious noise this season.

EDIT: Because I didn't do it before when WhiteRat did his prediction, I will give my prediction for Cleveland's record. 12-4

Eagles 3rd stringers lose a meaningless game to the Steelers, but McNabb played well for 1+ quarters and DeShaun Jackson caught 4 balls for 45 years. All in all a pretty good start to pre-season.

Eagles have always been enigmatic - never as bad as they look when they lose and never as good as they look when they win. And they usually do a lot of both. My prediction is 10-6 and maybe a wild-card berth.

I'm gonna go with San Diego for the Super Bowl. I know a lot of folks don't rly give em much thought, but they have the tools to make it imo.

I don't see Dallas making it past the second round in the playoffs. I think Romo is slightly over rated (he's still good tho)imo, and I just don't see them doing it.

All this doesn't rly matter though cause we know dem Saints from da boot are gonna do it :p

I would really like to see the Saints get there. I have always been a Drew Brees fan since back when he played for Perdue

Brett said today that his arm is "Fatigued" but not sore and wants to change his throwing schedule this camp. So, which week does Favre get injured and break his consecutive start streak? I say Week 7.

And he's also "well-seasoned" and "experienced" not "old".

I think earlier, say week 4.

WhiteRat Aug 13th, 2008 11:19 PM

Anyone else want in on this? Maybe whoever picks the right week of his injury can get a sweet custom Brett Favray Injury sig or something.

Fathom Zero Aug 13th, 2008 11:21 PM

By the way, the cover of Madden 09 makes me laugh every time.

WhiteRat Aug 13th, 2008 11:23 PM

EA has a new cover of Favre as a Jet which is available for download.

MattJack Aug 14th, 2008 10:47 AM

Imma throw my hat in the ring and say week 4

WhiteRat Aug 14th, 2008 12:10 PM

Looks like you and the Colonel are going to scratch and slap each other over who picks week 4.

Fathom Zero Aug 14th, 2008 12:15 PM

Week 6.

MattJack Aug 14th, 2008 12:17 PM

damnit, i missed what he said! OK i'm going week 5.

MattJack Aug 14th, 2008 12:31 PM

Week 5 and with 5 interceptions by the end of that week.

Pentegarn Aug 14th, 2008 07:45 PM

I want to play. i am going with the long shot and saying no injury

WhiteRat Aug 14th, 2008 07:57 PM

So far we have myself at week 7, the Colonel at week 4, MattyPooh at 5, Fathom at week 6, and Pentagram says no dice on the injury. Anyone else?

pac-man Aug 14th, 2008 08:02 PM

Week 14. He'll play through soreness and fatigue, but I think the Niners D will actually hurt that old man.

EDIT: How long before we see the Toronto Bills? If I was a Bills fan or a CFL fan I'd be pissed that this idea is being toyed with.

WhiteRat Aug 14th, 2008 08:14 PM

If it was an expansion team, i'd be all for it. But as a fan of a small market team myself, I feel bad for the fans in Buffalo. So yeah, I'd be pretty pissed too.

Colonel Flagg Aug 14th, 2008 11:47 PM

F. I. P. - the Favre Injury Pool. This gives us all a reason to pay attention to the Jets. :lol

Dont forget about our new boy Felix Jones. He is supposed to be the next Emmit. :rock

Oh and on the FIP i want week 8

El Blanco Aug 15th, 2008 04:49 PM

Madden Curse hits week 11. The Jets o-line is good, but he's gonna frustrated at having no receivers and try to scramble out of the pocket or hold on too long for the o-line to protect him. Thats the week they play the Pats in New England.

By the way, Matt, week 5 is their bye week.

But, looking at the Jets schedule, it ain't half bad. All those sissy Western Division teams. They won't make the playoffs, but they'll be a factor until Favre's injury.
