RAKION (now with screenshots)

Softnyx (people who made Gunbound) released a new game called Rakion...and it's pretty good stuff :)

URL: http://rakion.softnyx.net (make sure you check out the screenshots & movies)

So you get to pick from 5 classes: Swordsman, Mage, Ninja, Archer, or Blacksmith and you basically join a room and kill things according to the specific rules.

You do level up and get money to buy better stuff...PLUS summons like minotaurs, dragons, golems, etc...

So after you fill up this bar in the bottom right of your screen you can choose to enter chaos mode, where you become extremely powerful for a certain time.

The main problem about the game is the requirements they put up, but I think they may be lowered at a later date:
512 MB RAM
128 MB graphics card
1.8 GHz processor

It's 3rd person, but it has a good reason because it's a LOT easier to see the range of your weapon from that POV. Anyway, they're having a character reset on the 25th to mark the end of the closed beta.

This game is REALLY GOOD (not just for a free game either) so at least give it a try!!!

Normal mage

Mage in CHAOS(The mage basically controlles a powerful mannequin)

Normal swordsman

Preda-- I mean Chaos Swordsman :/

Mannequin

What kind of gameplay is it, what about plot, or is it like the international edition of Gunz where it's just fighting?

Marc Summers Sep 1st, 2005 10:56 PM

It's kinda like Gunz, but it's mostly close combat since using long range weapons can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. You have to spend a half to a whole second switching between long range and short range weapons, so most of the characters made for close combat stay that way.

There isn't really a plot, but the gameplay was kinda fun. It is "just fighting", but there's a lot of strategy involved in team play, especially Golem Mode which is like capture the flag. Most strategies involved creating diversions and baiting the enemy, or sometimes I'd just have my teammates go melee while I hung back and shot semi-tracking fireballs with my mage.

Btw it was a closed beta, It'll open up either this month or next month...they don't have a date yet :/
