The word "Penis"

Now is it just me, or does the word "Penis" sound really stupid? Pee-nis. Penis. Penis.

It sounds like a cute nickname you would give a kid or a puppy.

"Oh look, here comes little Penis now!"

It doesn't even make sense, as it comes from a Latin word meaning "tail". A tail in the front? It doesn't flow like "vagina" or "vulva", its an ugly, stupid word.

I propose we come up with a new clinical name for a man's dick. According to Wiki, the word used the English langage prior to the word penis was "yard".

"the Yard, made up of two nervous Bodies, the Channel, Nut, Skin, and Fore-skin, etc."Physical Dictionary of 1684

However, I hardly think that "yard" will still work.

I propose the word "malestick" as a substitute. Say it a few times. Malestick. Malestick. Sounds more dignified than "penis", doesn't it? Sounds more masculine, less likely to evoke giggles, more serious. Malestick.

"The doctor examined my penis." vs. "The doctor examined my malestick."

Which is less embarrasing to say? Which sounds less stupid? Malestick, that's what.

So start a revolution. Start using the word "malestick" today!

I like the way Penis flows off my tongue better than malestick.

HellBeast Jul 9th, 2008 07:07 PM

.....did you seriously just say you like the way penis flows off your tongue??

To me, the problem with the word "penis" is that it sounds like it's referring to the quiddity of pea. Hence, someday I must become a medieval philosophy teacher so that I can tell any number of jokes I have in store for the lesson to distinguish between quiddity and haecity.

"Phallus"?
"Noble organ"?

Your comment about the tail etymology being lame might be true, but not only is penis cognate of the Romance language modern words for penis, but also in German the word for "tail" is more often used as a vulgarized reference to the penis.
