I miss shows like this with their great storytelling [albeit riddled with random plotholes]. There's more to a good tv than breasts and explosions [though both are pretty awesome].

I was so young when this came out but I remember it. I was 3 when it was cancelled but I still remember the intro so well and that the stories were so quality my parents would make me stop watching during especially horrific scenes. It was great.

I remember this episode. I remember it so vividly in fact that when Herbie attacks Matthew, he doesn't snap his neck, he squeezes his face and it breaks his jaw in his hands. That stayed with me for years.
My personal favorite episode of Monsters, I think it might've been called "The Pool" or some such. It was about an old lady with a cesspool in her basement and this Swamp Thing type monster would come out at night. Luckily, she had an old English gentlemen move next door to her who just happened to have a silver rune-etched sword!
Good times.
Though, for sheer horror, I've got to go with the Tales from the Crypt episode "There's Something Under the Bed." Dear God.

I liked Monsters. A mix of scary and dumb funny. Tales from the Dark Side was good too. We need a new horror craze like the 80s.

So loved this and Tales From The Darkside. With Tales hitting DVD, hopefully Monsters will follow soon.

I remember this show. One episode that stuck with me took place in a lab, it had this female scientist testing to see how rats would handle traps and poison. Of course this scientist was crazy and was trying to make the rats intelligent like humans. At the end of the episode the rats burst through the walls with little spears and tribal getup. Looking back on it it looked cheesy but seeing that rubber puppet rat saying the scientist name over and over, "PORTER" freaked me out as a youngster.

I rember the intro to this show so vividly, it's a shame there doesn't really be any sort of Horror anthologies out and about these days. The most recent example I can think of is Trick 'r Treat, which of course was a stand alone film.

I can only really remember the opening credits of the show. But I know I used to watch this during the summer on Sci-Fi. This a Darkside were back to back at the noon hour. Also, I found an petition to bring it out on dvd.

A woman, I believe a schoolteacher, is staying at a bed & breakfast in the woods. The old man who runs the place gives her a room upstairs and for the remainder of the episode this... thing stalks her in the room. There's a scene where the film goes in slo-mo where the creature's hand swipes at her foot as she's getting into bed and just barely misses. That terrified me for YEARS. I'd always get into bed with the lights on after I saw that.
Just looked it up online. It's the episode called "Inside the Closet."
Here's a picture of "The Thing". Enjoy the waking nightmares!

thanks for the info ya i rember that espiode it was creepy as hell

@GreenPeaness-actually the "Inside The Closet" episode you are talking about is a Tales From the Darkside episode, not Tales From The Crypt
You can find it on the Season 1 DVD set of Tales From The Darkside. One of the best episodes of the series, hands down.
I would love to see "Monsters" on DVD too.

I could only remember the opening as well. It always reminded me of the old HBO intro to movies, where it had that beat that kept getting faster and faster, as the camera flew through the little neighborhood, eventually going off into space, revealing the HBO logo and just blasting music.

Here it is:

I've always loved that intro, and it was great to see it used similarly in Beetlejuice and The Burbs'

The intro was the best part of that show. Potato Dad! How can you not love a dad who's a giant spud? Also note that the daughter has plenty of double-horned cyclops features but no potato features. Perhaps from another marriage? Did cyclops mom cheat on potato dad??

-RoG-, thanks for bring this classic ep. up. I remember seeing this as a kid especially with the melting face scene, it was absolutely shocking. You're right that Monsters deserve appreciation, and I would rather watch this episode again than listen to TWILIGHT fans bitching about their gay vampire shit.

I have no idea why I said Tales from the Crypt. What the hell is wrong with me?

DeloreonCarjacker41 Oct 5th, 2010 04:42 PM

I always remember the zombie episode were the family is disturbed to find out there daughter is dating a zombie but like him more than there son. Poor kid was gonna be on their dinner table.

All Hail Duke Oct 5th, 2010 04:45 PM

it was an ok show

the only episodes that stick with me are one that's based off of a King short about a finger that starred Tom Noonan and Alice Playten, and another about a bachelor that had a creature that had a crush on him living in his phone

This seems like really great show. Sadly, it was before my time. :(

I recently picked up all of the official VHS releases of the set 2 episodes on six tapes. I really need to get a VCR again.
