Movies You're Embarassed to Like (:bandwagon)

In lieu if all the "Songs/Bands/TV Shows You're embarassed to say you like", I figured I would be a bandwagon whore and make my own crappy incarnation of this theme, so here it goes.

Me? Labyrinth. It wasn't a bad movie at all, it's just because at age six, it made my first ever crush be on David Bowie. :( At the time, I saw nothing wrong with it. My parents, however, thought it was hillarious. And I guess I'm ashamed of watching anything produced by Disney.

shakaconner Oct 3rd, 2006 12:31 AM

suburban commandow, Mr. Nanny, Surf Ninjas, Child's Play 3

WhiteRat Oct 3rd, 2006 12:47 AM

Clueless. I even own the "Whatever Edition".

RaNkeri Oct 3rd, 2006 03:06 AM

Dang, I had the same urge to create all kind of pointless threads, such as Books you're embarrassed to tell you like, Foods you're embarrassed to tell you like etc. :(

FartinMowler Oct 3rd, 2006 05:48 AM

Dumb and Dumber/Black Rain/Akira (because I still don't know what the hell is going on). Any Jackie Chan movie that doesn't have Chris Tucker in it...

the_dudefather Oct 3rd, 2006 06:10 AM

Flash Gordon, by far the most cheese ridden movie i have ever seen (unless there is a movie which is literly constructed of cheese)

Grislygus Oct 3rd, 2006 09:55 AM

I loved Flash Gordon.

"ALL WILL MAKE MERRY...
...ON PAIN OF DEATH."

And the crappy synth rock themsong by Queen? Who could not like that movie, I ask you?

As for me, I liked was Silent Hill.

They changed the plot to be more understandable to John Q. Public (a pointless gesture, not a single non-gamer "got it"), but other than that, they used a lot of Silent Hill plot elements, the music was great, the monsters were very well-done, the atmosphere was dead-on, and it had more than enough retarded movie logic to make it enjoyable. I don't get why everyone bitched about it.

Jixby Phillips Oct 3rd, 2006 10:37 PM

Big Lebowski is easy to lump into the catagory of movies that are easy to like because they are made up of fail-safe ingrediants that will make dumb college-age guys love it. Movies you can buy posters of at Tower Records, you know. It's one of those movies that appear on FAVORITE MOVIES LIST next to the word "etc" because they aren't so much FAVORITE MOVIES LIST as just "i like this type of bullshit because I'm cool and I just want to let you know that" lists. I completley understand.

Juttin Oct 3rd, 2006 10:39 PM

The Big Lebowski is funny as hell

Jixby Phillips Oct 3rd, 2006 11:35 PM

Dire Flamingo Oct 4th, 2006 12:04 AM

Ah. The Big Lebowski is not at all a status-symbol sort of thing in my area. But I guess last year, when almost every guy in my class thought that seeing, or as in most cases, pretending to see "Clockwork Orange" made them super badass it got extremely annoying. Especially because they wouldn't shut up about it for like four months. :|

Mockery Oct 4th, 2006 12:26 PM

I'm by no means embarassed by it (though some people have told me I should be), but I love action movies with absurd plots. Well, I guess all action movies are absurd for the most part, but some of them go above and beyond. Movies like "Con Air" and "The Rock" entertain me to no end.

WhiteRat Oct 4th, 2006 02:15 PM

Ah, the cinematic masterpiece that is Con Air. Now that's a movie that i'm PROUD to say that I like. Just a few weeks ago myself and a few friends drank some brews and watched this comedic film not once, but two nights in a row. It's that good.

Anyone who hasn't seen this Bruckhiemer summer blockbuster needs to buy, rent, or illegally download it immediately.

the_dudefather Oct 4th, 2006 03:29 PM

i love both movies

ArrowX Oct 4th, 2006 03:36 PM

The Under Seige series and just about every other Steven segal flick out there. What more could you want , under seige has a coked up gary busey who probably thinks whats going on around him is real and tommy lee jones at the bad guy. Its a shame that the good old fashioned action movies like True Lies, and Die Hard arent around anymore people expect everything but mind numbing fun from cinema these days.

Does it show dolly's boobs in the movie? If so, I'll definitely add it to my rental list.

Aw hell, I'll rent it anyway. If it says "whorehouse" in the title of the movie and it was made in the 80's...there definitely have to be nekkid boobs in the movie.

Sacks Dec 6th, 2006 07:37 PM

I really dug deep and thought about what movie I am actually embarassed to like. It took a while, but I came up with Boondock Saints. There are so many stupid motherfuckers on this planet that sit at home at night and jerk off to this movie I can't even believe it. I didn't know it had those kinda fans :/ . I just really liked it when I first watched it. I know I'd find it harder to get into if it had the same retard fans as scarface or that shit though.

Yeah, its fanbase is what ruined the movie for me. I expected something totally awesome and I got some derivative action movie. Granted it wasn't a dumb action movie, but I must be missing something big about it.

xbxDaniel Jan 1st, 2007 12:29 AM

Coneheads

I used to feel the same way about Ninja Scroll, until I seen the spin-off and the series. Now it's more like Ninja Furry Fagshit.

NightOfTheLivingDon Jan 8th, 2007 03:11 PM

Little Giants (especially after yesterday)
Casper
Surf Ninjas
The Hot Chick

Let me also weigh in with....

I'm in the utmost agreeance with xbxDaniel about Saints. Coneheads was awesome, one of Chris Farley's better roles (and by better I mean better than BH Ninja). What's wrong with Lock, Stock? You should watch Problem Child again. It's pretty good. The sequel, I will agree, was terrible. I didn't know that people who like Super Mario Brothers existed. The soundtrack is pretty kick ass however. Though I have a distast for Hugh Grant too, I have to admit that I laughed my ass off at parts of Nine Months.

I fucking hated Anchorman! I'm not starting a fight, because I tend to when I say that, but that movie was the most meaningless piece of monkey dribble I've ever seen. I'll admit I laughed at one or two parts (Steve Carell is hilarious) but other than said one or two chuckles I got angry at how bored I was. Fuck Will Ferrell.

I guess I'm not really ashamed of it, but I just watched the "Tremors" movies and loved them. Whenever I try to get my friends to watch it they say it's too cheesy, though.

And there was this Korean, I think, horror movie about Ouija boards summoning spirits on at 2AM, can't remember the name, that I taped, but it's the same case where I can't get anyone else to watch it. >:
Also "Fern Gully" because it's a bunch of hippie save the rainforest stuff with Tim Curry and Robin Williams doing voices that has been a favorite since childhood.

Grislygus Jan 12th, 2007 10:08 AM

The first Tremors is absolutely fantastic.

The second two are equally fantastic because of the wonder that is Burt Gummer.
