The Sports Thread

Per RoG's suggestion, I will go ahead and set up a sports thread for the 5 or so of us who like sports :P

Talk anything sports, sports related, sports entertainment, or anything funny about sports.

Talk smack about the team you hate or talk up the team you love.

Hell, if you hate sports, goof on those of us who love sports :P

Have fun :)

OK, so let's talk final four. What are your picks?

Mine are UCLA, Vandy, Texas, and Louisville.

Geggy Mar 18th, 2008 06:28 AM

How about them Celts?

I'm still racking my brain over my bracket. Every year I make my picks with much confidence only to have my bracket explode in my face, sending me straight to the local burn ward. I'm sure this year will be no different.

This year's brackets seem to have more parity than any I can remember. I am not comfortable with any of my picks. I would still be grinding over it if it weren't for the fact that I had to get mine turned in at the work pool.

In all honesty, I don't see that there is an NBA team that can stop them, they are just too tough. But the west always brings a tough team to the NBA finals, so this year's finals will likely be the best one in years. We may see another Lakers/Celtics classic ala the 1980s.

That can only mean good things for the NBA

ElPila666 Mar 18th, 2008 07:28 AM

Do you guys like football soccer?

ElPila666 Mar 18th, 2008 08:18 AM

Well i do, i was playing soccer since my 15 years old but then my life suddenly changed when i started to do drugs and alcohol parties and well i couldn't keep going to training cause i started to being lazy and my speed wasn't the same because i was overweigth, and the manager fired me, so i though that all that excess of junk destroyed my sport life but don't cuz after that i started to boxing, i never won a fight, but i never go KO the fuck out either cuz before every fight i snorked cocaine when the coatch doesn't saw me, that makes me feel like robocop above the ring but i alwayas loosed by points or infractions anyway so i quite that sport too, then i started tennis and i did pretty well (on weed)

GADZOOKS Mar 18th, 2008 09:03 AM

For shame! Robocop wouldn't do cocaine >:

Is it okay to talk about NHL without being ignored? 'cos I don't follow/know shit about American football nor Basketball.

Go away nerds, this is Jock Talk.

I'm taking Friday off to watch basketball because my work blocks videos. I'm a big baby but I love sports.

55% done!

I'll just say this, for all I know about sports:

I was surprised when I heard that the Lakers got Pau Gasol from the Grizzlies. By all accounts, the guy is a top-notch basketball player, but an unremarkable team like the Grizzlies were willing to part with him anyway. I guess I just don't understand NBA trading.

Anyway, that's about all I know about sports, and I only know that much because I used Gasol in street matches all the time while testing NBA 2k8. People always go for Kobe first. Just because you're from LA doesn't mean you have to go for Lakers guys every time, people!

What do you know about the NHL?

GADZOOKS Mar 18th, 2008 12:28 PM

They did it for cap room relief (Kwame Brown's expiring contract), and instead of trying to explain the salary cap in the NBA I will tell you that the Memphis Grizzlies have basically given up on being a competitive team this decade and are rebuilding for the next one.

Just the basic shit, standings, huge events etc. :x
Not a "hardcore" fan, but I've increasingly followed NHL events with varying interest ever since our SM-League became shit somewhere around early 2000s :/

Same here. I'm actually dreading having to sit down and finish the rest of my bracket because I know it will eventually cause 3rd degree burns on about 60% of my body. You'd think that year after year of brackets going up in flames that i'd be used to the pain and suffering.

Does anyone here follow college football, more specifically recruiting?

RaNkeri Mar 18th, 2008 01:15 PM

Oh yeah, European Football Championships are held this summer. Can hardly wait till June :rock

France was my favourite since Argentina was eliminated, plus Zinedine Zidane is my hero, he is like a Harry Potter of soccer to me but i don't understand why he acted like that on the final. :(

BTW is it a shame that England won't qualify for the european championship?

Fat_Hippo Mar 18th, 2008 04:10 PM

No. That just means less hooligans, which is good, seeing how I live in Switzerland. Shame for the bars and beer companies though.
