Rosh Hashanah

Tonight, September 8th, is the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, which I am told is the beginning of the Jewish New Year. Any Jewish folks want to share what you and your families do during this season? I know the basics, but I am curious to get the personal aspect.

Kitsa Sep 8th, 2010 10:43 PM

I'm vaguely partly Jewish and am pretty much the only one in my immediate family to acknowledge that, so it's been low-key hereabouts. The local chabad sent me a facebook invite for a Rosh Hashana dinner but I never got around to clicking that I wasn't going.

The holiday features a lot of honey and I'm allergic to honey anyway.

L'shana tovah.

I got to skip one of my classes this afternoon because of my Israeli teacher, so yeah. I'm celebrating by eating a ham sandwich.

I'm ethnically Jewish, but my family has never been very observant. Meh.

The first time I had ever heard this word before was on colbert on monday.

Shit, me too. Miley Cyrus is an very unnatractive young lady.

Kitsa Sep 9th, 2010 06:54 PM

Miley Cyrus appears to be a very stupid and/or unpolished young lady and that makes it even worse.

For most people I think Rosh Hashanah is just one of those exotic sounding holidays you see in passing on a calendar every once in a while.

i thought it was the day everyone was supposed to listen to sha-na-na

Shadowdancer21b Sep 9th, 2010 07:27 PM

Oh, well. So much for getting stories. I guess in hindsight I should have looked elsewhere. Thanks for the chuckles anyway gang.

Kitsa Sep 9th, 2010 09:34 PM

One of my great-aunts converted to a fairly orthodox group for her husband and is notorious for serving her famous ham salad at the reception following her conversion ceremony.

That's about all I've got.

One of my Jewish friends is celebrating Rosh Hashanah this Friday night and having us over for dinner. I'm sure I'll have some matzoh ball soup or something, but she's also making me chicken fingers since I'm a picky eater. :picklehat

Tadao Sep 10th, 2010 12:16 AM

Will they be using electricity? :O

Mockery Sep 10th, 2010 12:50 AM

Zhukov Sep 10th, 2010 07:10 AM

Kitsa Sep 10th, 2010 08:49 AM
