Any Holmes Fans Here?

Looks like Holmes is pretty cool in this. And I love that part at the end. The maid must have been freaked. :lol

I really hope that the slow motion boxing is just for the trailer.

ZeldaQueen May 26th, 2009 12:19 AM

Apparently they are having Holmes boxing and cane fighting in the film.

Big Papa Goat May 26th, 2009 12:40 AM

I am a bit of a Holmes fan, or at least I was back in high school when I read the stories, but if I recall correctly, Holmes actually did do some kind of boxing, and I think maybe even cane fighting. He was also trained in his own kind of martial arts, baritsu I believe it was called. I hope that Holmes fans aren't going to complain too much about this movie not being ridiculous and not faithful to the original, because the original was ridiculous.

i used to watch the halmark movies

You're right. When I read about this movie, I did some research on Holmes (I never read any of the books, though I probably will now). Holmes was noted as an exceptional boxer, did cane fight, and was very good at martial arts. He was also apparently a frequent user of cocaine and morphine.

J. Tithonus Pednaud May 26th, 2009 01:10 PM

I Holmes better - before - he became a James Bond wannabe.
Seriously, why call this Sherlock Holmes?

Tadao May 26th, 2009 01:48 PM

To make money Pednaud.

Kitsa May 26th, 2009 03:07 PM

I guess it's kind of sad that Sherlock wasn't the first one I thought of.

Dimnos May 26th, 2009 03:11 PM

Spoilers!

Sam May 26th, 2009 03:48 PM

I AM MORE OF A FAN OF JOHN HOLMES. :rolleyes

Dr. Boogie May 26th, 2009 04:07 PM

No cane-fighting joke to go with that?

Big Papa Goat May 27th, 2009 12:00 AM

Sherlock Holmes was actually a spy during World War 1 according to one of the later stories. The only thing said about it was that it ruined his English accent, having to work in America or something like that.

Kitsa May 27th, 2009 06:43 AM

This says that in a study, 58 percent of British citizens thought Sherlock Holmes was real.

And 25 percent thought Winston Churchill was a fictional character.

People can be stupid about stuff like that. There's a sizeable percentage of folks who think Joan of Arc was Noah's wife.

Doyle was a gifted writer. So much so that his characters seem realistic. I doubt that this movie will honor that.

Pub Lover May 27th, 2009 06:00 PM

ZQ probably hasn't seen that film.

Tadao May 27th, 2009 06:06 PM

ZQ hasn't seen enough to be spouting off about peoples ignorance.

Thanks. You have a nice day with your assumptions now. :)

Pub Lover May 28th, 2009 11:54 PM

ZQ, have you seen the 1989 movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure?

Tadao May 28th, 2009 11:56 PM

Was it on Nickelodeon lately?
