"The Last House on the Left"...how is this not "Otis"?

Daughter is victimized, family is angry, k, I see what you're doing here.

Movie entails angry family going after badguys and beating the shit out of them, mm-hmm, okay.

But they already made this movie, and it's called Otis.

:\

Edit: *sigh* I was specifically talking about the remake, why did they bother with a remake, and I didn't watch or care about the original anyway. At least I did my part in making you feel you had superior knowledge, right?

J. Tithonus Pednaud Mar 5th, 2009 11:13 AM

They already made this movie, it was called Last House on the Left. This is a remake of a 1972 Wes Craven movie that is damn near legendary. Otis is an okay little hidden movie horror snobs like to throw around.

Kitsa Mar 5th, 2009 11:24 AM

I never saw the original. I guess I was wondering why they bothered with a remake, since so many remakes are shitty nowadays.

I'd like to disqualify myself from horror movie snobdom by saying I didn't like Otis.

Big Papa Goat Mar 5th, 2009 11:48 AM

Apparently the original Last House on the Left was also considered by some people to have been a kind of a rip off of some other movie, but they were both apparently loosely based on some medieval scandanavian story.

I'd say the fact that you've never seen (and from the sounds of it, never heard of) the original Last House on the Left already disqualifies you.

According to IMDB, Wes Craven based it on the 1960's movie Jungfrukällan

Zomboid: zing!

There are a hell of a lot of "classics" I just don't give a fuck about. I'll admit that. My thing is Asian Extreme.

Big Papa Goat Mar 5th, 2009 02:15 PM

I was looking at the imdb page for Jungfrukallan, and there was a link to a list of well known movies that were ripped off of lesser known movies. The Predator 'original' looks pretty good, although apparently it was never released on either VHS or DVD, so I can't imagine it would be possible to find =/

Also, it seems that the 'original' for The Others might have itself been an adaptation of The Turn of the Screw, which it seems was also quasi-remade in the recent "In a Dark Place". Fun facts!

Tadao Mar 5th, 2009 02:24 PM

This read is a rip off of my 1992 thread about how the original was a rip off.

Babs Mar 5th, 2009 02:41 PM

I would actually say that House on the Edge of the Park is a rip off of the original of Last House on the Left.

Mockery Mar 5th, 2009 02:47 PM

The Last House on the Left is a rip off of The First House on the Right. >:

kahljorn Mar 5th, 2009 03:10 PM

whatever guys don't you know that architects reuse the same house designs with subtle differences :rolleyes

Babs Mar 5th, 2009 03:32 PM

It's to honor the aesthetics of the film. Brilliance, pure brilliance I say.

Nick Mar 5th, 2009 04:24 PM

I was going to be snobby about this film, but you guys beat me too it.

More like ass-thetics.

Kitsa Mar 5th, 2009 06:50 PM

There just aren't that many original stories out there. Everything's going to be a ripoff of something else and usually on multiple levels.

Dr. Boogie Mar 5th, 2009 08:06 PM

That's what my old boss used to say when he was about to rip off a bunch of stuff.

10,000 Volt Ghost Mar 5th, 2009 08:34 PM

My dad had a copy of the original on VHS when I was seven. Was right about to stick it in the VCR to check it out and he stopped me. Probably a good idea.

J. Tithonus Pednaud Mar 5th, 2009 10:26 PM

It's obviously a rip off of Hilarious House of Frightenstein.

Kitsa Mar 5th, 2009 10:51 PM

Yes, well, I'll be sitting out this whole circle-jerk because I'm not watching the remake, either.

Babs Mar 6th, 2009 09:29 AM

such a ripoff of the ring, NOW THAT'S A CLASSIC
